  1. I appreciate the addition of HQ tiles to the game to give a player some room to breath but the current implementation seems somewhat arbitrary. I propose that each player gets one free tile as their HQ and to have more HQ tiles this would need to be done via an organization. It is thematically and functionally odd for an individual to have up to 5 HQ tiles while an organization has non. I would think HQ tile max limits would be tied to a set of talents in the Organization Management category. A player can only ever have one HQ tile (maybe per planet but that may be a bit much) but an Org starts with one HQ tile and can train talents allowing them to get somewhere between 3-10 tiles maximum much like the Core Max Limit talents currently in the game. Again, this makes more sense for lore/thematic and balance reasons. As it is currently, a single player with many alts can land-grab large swaths of land with zero upkeep. Once the "infinite" organization creation loophole is closed having this ability relegated to organizations only will help mitigate massive landgrabs by small numbers of solo players (with alts). This also has implications for Organization Alliances when territory warfare comes into the game. I would love to hear your thoughts, ideas and feedback. Thanks!
  2. Usually when there's territorial warfare, the act of capturing a base may start from the air or very far away. As time goes on the Area of interest may become contested by various means. However, at the end of the day, capturing anything terrestrial usually ends with ground forces... This being tanks to weaken a base and the internal dirty work being done by foot soldiers who will get into CQC situations to capture the buildings of the base. The fact that NQ brought up territorial war fare when there's been little to no conversation of AvA worries the absolute crap out of me. As in, atmospheric combat... I'm afraid... because there's no AvA... will result in yet another poorly executed patch release that will do little to bring back the community if the 0.24 and 0.25 patches actually get pulled off well enough. I'm sorry to break this to you NQ but if you instill territorial war fare without AvA the PvP crowd... the literal thousands of people who are waiting for this game to add in the true aspects that they're willing to throw their money at, will not get on board. Adding AvA AFTER launch will just add more fuel to the fire in ways NQ doesn't need especially when NQ is already in deep need to start generating some real cash-flow during beta. As far as Territorial war fare PVP goes, AvA is absolutely critical and is the final stage of capturing land. To add in Territorial war fare and NOT have AvA with at least pistols and rifles would be like building a car but leaving out the engine. You want to bring in the money from the EvE crowd when adding in territorial warfare? Don't half-ass it. Do it right and as thoroughly as you reasonably can or you'll just get more bad publicity keeping the gaming crowd (and their money) away from DU.
  3. How is/are Dual Universe, Companies, Groups of players, etc, supposed to manage air traffic? Start from: "5:00" of this video: CRASH As you can see, from this video, we see a scene where one ship collides with another and easily tears apart with utmost no effort. How are we going to manage a ton of players flying in one area where, if they collide then the ship included in their collision will be destroyed. What if I just want to leave the planet and some troll flies by and crashes into my slow ship and I'm knocked out of air and grounded in less than a second? What will I do If I'm speeding in the middle of nowhere and someone who's texting and driving isn't watching where they're going and I get hit, and I'm stuck floating in space? Will I have Insurance? Is there a teleport or taxi service? Also, Check out my YouTube Channel: MaxedMASKED (Watch, Like, Subscribe, Share, and Grin)
  4. This is Elector Cale(wars) speaking. Lets say you decided to go blow a planet up on a server like DU. There would be no rules again'st it. What i'm saying is what server wide rules would there be, or would it be all player ran depending which territory you are in. Just like real life. Cloning a human is illegal in every country, but lets say you clone someone on mars. It's still illegal. The point is will there be massive server wide rules, or would rules be dependent upon Universal nations. I would assume the basic NO HACKING or don't abuse exploits would be added to a universal server rule list. IT may not even be. It may be completely player ruled. 5. I know that NQ have been very informative on how markets will work, and how products are bought and sold, however, has there been any thought or information thrown around about the actual financial system? How will the financial system run - similarly to real life? What would be the role of banks (if they even existed as the game mechanics allowed)? What about loans, or investments, to people who don't have the funds to undertake large projects. Could banks store people's money (or would that even be necessary)? What about groups or companies that could go public, and have people buy stakes in them in order to raise funds, just as in real life? I just figured this was all food for thought as it doesn't seem to be something that's been explored yet.
  6. Hello DU Community Yesterday, I had my first encounter with the dark side of any internet community within the Discord server. It was a statement of overt racial vilification - that is - a public act that encourages or incites others to hate people because of their race, nationality, country of origin, colour or ethnic origin. To my own shame I did not deal well with these comments as, to me, they were personal and extremely offensive by any reasonable person test. And I decided then and there to do something about it here. And therein lies the problem. I, indeed none of us, can stop others from acting in a certain way. Nor do I feel that we should as players hold NovaQuark as being responsible for policing our actions as a community. The promise of the game is that it is community driven, so this is our mantle to bear. However - what I, and you, can do, is make a commitment; an unambiguous statement; on the kind of community we want this to be, and the kind of behavior which we, as a community, see as appropriate. At the same time - this is a game about rebuilding humanity. And from a pre-alpha thematic perspective, I do feel that there is one document which may well have traveled with us to Alioth, or conceivably would be something the first colonists would create, especially when one reads the preamble. This is an semi-edited document to make it for MMO use, and Dual Universe-ish, without changing the intent of the original. That said, please send feedback or concerns so it can be shaped. And so it is that I present to you the Dual Univers(al) Declaration of Human Rights and Community Charter. All organisations, characters, and especially PLAYERS, are invited to "sign" via reply to this thread in the manner I do. Organisations and characters should not feel compelled to sign if it does not fit their background - this in no way means that you as a PLAYER should not want to make this commitment however. Suggested edits are, of course, welcome - I do not anticipate that changes would change the spirit of the intent. Some articles have been removed where I could see no relevance in DU. EDIT 1: Based on feedback so far - please think about how this would apply as an IN GAME background piece, as we trust that NQ and the EULA will address player behavior. *Should* further feedback suggest otherwise - we can revisit as a player code of conduct. Oh - and this is only meant as a starting point. The end product should be "plain english" and simple to understand, able to be adopted by any org, group etc for use as a starting point for the same. ------------------------------------------------------ PREAMBLE Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world, Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of humanity, and the advent of a new world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people, Whereas it is essential, if humanity is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law, Whereas it is essential to promote the development of friendly relations between nations, Whereas the Dual Universe community have in the Charter reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women and have determined to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom, Whereas signatories - be they players, characters or organizations, have pledged themselves to achieve, in co-operation with NovaQuark, the Developers, the promotion of universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, Whereas a common understanding of these rights and freedoms is of the greatest importance for the full realization of this pledge, Now, Therefore THE COMMUNITY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all organizations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, organisational and community, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the players themselves and among the characters and organizations under their control. 7. "Good day, fellow members of the Dual Universe Forum. Like an astounding fraction of people here, I have found a great interest in the creation process Dual Universe has created. Most wonderful of all, I believe, is the fact that while templates are going to be available, most or all of the code can and will be done by the players. While this may allow for stunning creations like "Pacific Rim meets Gears of War"; inventions to darker "George Orwell's "1984" meets Ex Machina", the real problem lies with the benefit itself: codes. Where the player inventions simply to be tried and tested against NPCs, who am I to complain? (after all, we humans like battering digital units without any conscience coming to sting us later on...like Witcher 3...or Doom...or soon to be harassed Dual Universe NPCs...) My concern is that codes, basically interact with other codes that can be decoded, recoded or bloody well explode in your face. What happens when a designer creates a weapon with a kill range of 70,000 units and a damage variable thrice that amount? Or.... A ship with a hilariously high health value and a repair snippet that adds twice the maximum health every millisecond? Or... Codes that change the values of their coded targets, leaving the attack or defence in a quite proverbial "Waterloo"? I do hope that I'm not sounding like a Prophet of Doom to the poor inhabitants of Pompeii, but I do hope the developers have this volcano in check, or at least a force field to keep the lava from raining down on our heads. Lastly, player created AI is going to be as much a blessing to people here as the electric bulb was to our ancestors in the late nineteenth century. In retrospect, it would be a curse to many as much as a future "SkyNet" may be to our descendants in years to come. To be quite frank, some people here may already be working on a doomsday "SkyNet" for the poor people who are unlucky enough to come across it. The point is, some clear controls need to be put in place. And I hope the Guardians of the Dual Universe are several steps ahead of us. Pax Vobiscum. "
