  1. That is not unlucky though, that is taking a risk you should not take. Most camping spots are well known and there are tools that will tell you whether there is a camp up in the usual places well before you get there. Also.. wormholes are your friend in EVE as an explorer, exploration based corps keep very accurate trackers on wormholes for good reason, they are the easiest and best way to get around quickly and relatively safely if you know how to use them. Oh and it's intricate mechanics like that which make EVE the success for all sorts of playstyles. The many seemingly "basic " features have some many potential side effects and uses that it drives gameplay much further than probably intended, something NQ will need to learn to understand if they want to succeed.. Oddly, when CCP turned off local in NullSec last year, it was us explorers who benefitted the most as many campers and "casual" PVP players stayed away as they were afraid of getting caught. It was quite glorious .. and profitable
  2. If DU ever get exploration it will need to be in PVP space for the same reasons the good stuff is in Nullsec and Wormholes in EVE. Expecting everything to be accessible without risk is simply not reasonable or realistic. If you want to get/find high value goods, you'll need to take risks. And to be honest, I think the "threat level" in DU is and will be much lower than some PVP players would like you to believe or they would possibly like to see. Pretty much in the same order as venturing into Nullsec in EVE, which is not even close to the level of risk many (new) players think it is. I can honestly say I have never been caught in Nullsec due to surprise or smart opponents, it was always because I was careless, took unneeded risks or made mistakes/wrong choices. And I expect it will be much the same in DU eventually.
  3. An impound system is not punishment. It is a reasonable reaction to unreasonable use of space and game resources as well as impact to other players. I would welcome an "Aphelia Impound Office" near the ARK ship and anyone leaving their construct on a market tile for more than 48 hours will be welcome to pick it up as a magic blueprint for a fee (based on the construct size) at the ARK ship.. In addition to this, NQ could open a second open market platform where players can rent space to place their own stalls/market constructs I'd say that would be reasonable , effective and an overall good solution to a persistent problem.
  4. I love the defensive "Despite our recent efforts to expand and clear out Market 6" which really should be "Despite the feedback we received on our idea to expand Market 6 to spread out the clutter, we went ahead with our plans as we thought we knew best. turns out, what do we know really".. But yeah.. for the first time NQ seems to actually have taken some of the feedback to heart and while they still try and be as evasive towards actually putting the game's performance and active player base first against the passive and departed players, this is a good first attempt to actually try and find a solution. It's far from perfect and will be very easily worked around by anyone who wants to put in the slightest of effort but it's far better than creating more space thinking it will help while it should be obvious more space will only turn into more clutter. IMO 30 days is too long and invites too easy a work around if you only have to go around your constructs one a month to prevent them from being hidden, I'd say a week is more reasonable where I'd actually be good with 48hours. I hope that for NQ this is mostly a data collection exercise and they will iterate this quickly and often to get to a good compromise for all involved. If only this is the start for NQ actually switching from trying to not upset anyone to doing what is best for the game I'd be happy with the change We'll see
  5. First off, I never said any of the above and I know exactly where my mind is.. I never said that DU is/was or will be advertised as a PVP intensive game, I said that DU has always been advertised as a game with PVP being an integral part of the game. PVP is one of the main pillars of the game and always has been. The suggestion no one would be here if NQ said as much is factually incorrect, there is many here, like myself, who do not care for PVP at all but understand it is a part of the game and are perfectly willing to deal with it if and when it is encounter on our own terms, that may mean that I'll just surrender whatever I fly and respawn as worst case.. The potential loss to PVP would be a calculated risk for me. I also never said, and will actually disagree, that DU is first and foremost a PVP centric game. That does not mean that PVP has no place or function in the game, it means that PVP is not a goal in itself in the structure around which DU is (or better, will eventually be) designed. If you want to argue that too many who prefer a PVP playstyle seem to think that the game is all about PVP and that hey seem to want to make the point that without a massive shift towards PVP the game is doomed then you get no argument from me that this idea is based on nothing but mistaken assumptions by others and NQ not clearly correcting set expectations because of that. PVP is very clearly a part of the game structure and design. It's all over the forums and in the many videos as well as the kickstart pages and yes, it is certainly mentioned in the introduction as well. You can play DU without ever encountering combat PVP by staying in the safe zone or by staying within a well defended and set up territory outside of that zone once TW comes into play. I entirely expect NQ will eventually implement Territory warfare in a way that is very much skewed towards the "defender" by making it very hard and costly for any attacker to even try a basic takeover. They will have to effectively disable the ability for the individual rogue element or small pirate group to take over territory, restricting that activity to big/"state" organisations which as a side effect will allow small independent pockets to mostly go about their business without much risk at all. My expectation will be that NQ will drive "space" TW towards heavily fortified and defended space stations as endpoints for warp jumps and entry points for safe corridors on planets into the populated areas which can also be safeguarded fairly easily (but at cost). NQ will keep PVP out of the populated areas, wherever they are by using mechanics that favour defence seriously. PVP will be in the "wild west" outside of these areas. If they don't all the creative and non PVP population will remain in the current Alioth/Thades/Madis safezone and the rest of the game world will be pretty much empty as the risk would simply not be worth the effort and cost to build there. PVP will come to planets sure, but the main focus for combat PVP will remain in space is what I expect. At least for the foreseeable future as I do think that AVA will not come in until some time after official release.
  6. You do not lose inventory through teleports as the inventory stays behind on the point or origin. A respawn is not a teleport, it is suicide so you lose your stuff. Most MMO games will see you lose your inventory when your character gets killed of you respawn, most co-op games will too.. Eventually you should drop your inventory (possibly with a chance of a percentage being lost) on being killed and possibly on respawning where others can loot that drop, for now inventory just evaporates. None of this has ever not been known or clear so if this is such a concern/issue for you I'm not sure why you choose to play this game. It's like you buy a banana bread slice from Starbucks and then complain that you really should be able to not have banana in the bread.
  7. And here is where I do not agree. PVE content in a game like DU should be designed to carry enough reward to be worth the risk of engaging with the content while at the same time, it provides enough of a challenge and opportunity for PVP players to engage the PVE players in those situations. That is how these mechanics IMO should be balanced. As a PVE player you know you can and will encounter PVP and will lose ships but overall the rewards are worth the risk or the loss. If you want to not be bothered, stay in the safe zone, choose a single player game or a game with a PVE only mode to play, not a game which is clearly and openly advertised as a game with PVP components you may encounter any time you step outside of a safe zone.
  8. You should not lose any data items (blueprints, scan results, pocket ship) when you respawn, if you do, log a ticket for it.
  9. @Sinfil Actually, no. Shadow _is_ a fully fledged Windows PC. The hardware is very straightforward and as long as the software plays by the rules of Windows programming then it should not make a difference that his hardware is in a rack in a data center and not on your desk, that is the whole point of the service. Also NQ would not have to get in line to get access to a Shadow PC, they can, and IMO should, apply for access as a developer and I actually looked into this, taking all but 5 minutes to get the names of the people they would need to get in touch with to arrange this. And it is actually a matter of "looking through files" which is exactly what I did, analyzing the Windows crash logs, and these logs show a standard Windows stopcode which would generally be indicative of one of two possible reasons for the crash, either a memory leak or the code not using the normal calls to allocate memory (which could also be somewhat of a definition of a memory leak actually). That DU suffers from memory leaks is not a secret and is easily tracked and logged if you know how and have the toolset to do so. The problem I have here is that NQ pretty much shoves this aside as "not a priority" while there is a real and present danger of this becoming a more widespread issue on future patches, potentially impacting more configurations. And then shit hits the fan as it's quite possible many "normal" users will encounter similar issues. The given that NQ is unable to recognize this as a potential problem and pretty much dismiss it as "we do not support this configuration anyway (which is not a sustainable position as they do, Shadow meets and exceed their spec requirement)" is both a risk and nonsense, it's a straight up cop out where NQ once more does not take ownership of their responsibilities as a developer for a live service game. It's part of why I decided to stop playing as it's clear to me NQ is not capable of actually understanding the risk they take her and elsewhere so I'm not going to invest time and effort into a game I expect could fail massively at any time or see further considerable delays in development as the dev runs into a brick wall they though was just a styrofoam block. As long as DU plays by the rules code wise, there is no reason for it to not run on Shadow PC hardware. This is not a Shadow problem, it is a NQ one.
  10. Your choices are between PVP using Newtonian Physics or no PVP.. These are two entirely different topics as one is around whether Newtonian physics are good for PVP and the second is about PVP in general. So, what is your objective for this poll?
  11. Outside of some new minor voxel brushes nothing changed. JC said in December a Vertex editor would be coming this year but i think it's safe to say that is off the table together with pretty much everything else he said would come in 2021 NQ will needs to: Get funding first Fix the core of the game Make what they have an actual game Have all the KS mechanics in Have a stable game with complete game loops for release which they now say they are shooting (but not committing) to have ready in little over a year from now by mid 2022 All the extra stuff I do not see happening before 2023, if NQ stays alive and gets lucky and their stuff sorted they may be able to have a stable game out by the end of next year. All the extra stuff JC "promised" for 2021 will have to wait if it ever happens. NQ needs tens of thousands of new players become fairly stable subscribers to stay alive mid-long term. They need to appeal to so many people that advanced/niche/nerd features will not make sense. They need a solid basis and enough attractive options around that to keep people occupied and that means a cash shop with skins, voxel texture packs etc in addition to subscription money. Getting the game to perform better, look better and handle better should be their #1 focus for most of this year. I really think the first two of the three recent blogposts pretty much said as much but hen they muddied it all up again with the third one (which I expect was actually the only one meant to be released and function as as a carrot). I decided to stop bothering and uninstall because of the total chaos their attempt at communication is and so far there is nothing that tells me if they will even be around in two months as I would expect NQ will by now have made up his mind and that of the VC group. So I do expect to hear from him/them soon-ish.. And before that happens, anything NQ PR/Marketing says is just words.
  12. You are missing the "I understand PVP is part of the game and that is fine, but it's not part of my gameplay" option which will apply for many I am sure. Asking a black-white PVP question like this really tells you nothing as myself and many others would not choose to engage in PVP at all but understand it's here and why. If "forced" between yes/no, I'd go for no as I do not care whether PVP is part of a game or not.
  13. I kind of expect NQ to implement Asteroid mining more as technical idea than a gameplay one, pretty much like the territory scanner works. Meaning there is no actual interaction, you drop a core to create a base with a mining unit et voila, you just wait for the "ore" to be "mined". Asteroid mining done, tick the box, moving on. No actual digging, no actual visual ore in te ground, just numbers on the backend. We'll see ..
  14. So you are saying that the way JC presents DU here is not what NQ is aiming for in regards to implementing the perspective JC has on this subject matter? In what way does the perspective presented here differ from the planned game development going forward?
  15. I guess @rothbardian is a JC alt.. I see no other possibility here as the disability to actually take another POV on board are similar. Both hear the words others speak but refuse to listen to understand their meaning and both of them seem to think their personal reality bubble is the absolute truth. Talk about hijacking and derailing a thread.. sjees.
  16. Let me get the popcorn.. this is too good so far.. Which memory macros in PVP? If you have any proof of these being used, report the player as it is a violation of TOS Multiboxing in the generally accepted definition is not a thing in DU as it is not possible to run multiple clients on the same machine. Having several character and logging them in when you want to play in their specialization is not multi boxing In the few cases where players will have several computers running different characters working together, a group of players working together will always beat them. And frankly, I would not worry about single players using multiple characters in these cases, I would feel sorry for them not having friends to play with instead. Lastly, many of these instances are backers who used their beta keys for alts. Once the game goes to release and beta ends, so do these alts. Have you checked the percentages on occupied tiles in game? Care to share specific examples of this happening? You can't "fast track" several characters and use the accrued point across all of them. WHat you are saying here it's unfair to solo players when others decided to join an org and have org members apply their specialized training across the org which is _far_ more effective that jumping between alts. Also, you seem to not have a basic understanding of the DU talent system at all Getting 150K/day is peanuts once you get going. It is easy enough to make millions very quickly with minimal effort. The argument really has no merit at all. Why is it bad when some choose to have several characters to enjoy different playstyles? In general, sure, there are and will always be some outliers who will minmax using multiple characters. Frankly, I am way more concerned about how some will use untrained alts in PVP as beacons. That is something NQ should address Overall, I'd say your "friends" really have no clue about any of this and you and the game would probably better of without them in regards to the game. There's several here who seem to agree with you, at least to a degree. Why do you guys not team up, get into an org and start working/playing together to show how that is the optimal way to do things instead of complaining over non issues.
  17. If you remember that, do you also remember that I very quickly changed my mind and came out quite clearly that in hindsight I actually agreed with industry being limited to static cores but felt NQ had tried way to hard to cook up some bogus spins on their choice as the actual reasons made perfect sense in relation to the way they implemented industry initially and even more so in the second iteration. At the same time NQ missed several good opportunities to bring "out of nano former" crafting to dynamic constructs as well. I thought the "modular nanocrafter" was a great idea and would have added many possible gameplay options. "Vision" is nothing more than a personal perspective on the realization of an idea. The vision for DU is great but the lack of sensibility in adjusting that vision as the reality of what is achievable catches up to the vision, is IMO what has brought NQ to its knees and with it put the vision for DU at risk. And there is only one person responsible for that and he was removed from the CEO position at NQ for that reason I am sure. Anyone who says a vision can't or should not change really has no grasp on the concept. In addition to that, a CEO needs to be able to deal with ambiguity, be able to see around the fuzzy edges. And as the CEO for an innovative company, IMO you need to be able to support and nurture the ability and willingness to fail but do it fast enough to be able to pivot away to a better option. NQ has failed a number of times in the past 3.5 years but has consistently shown to not be able to recognize they did and then take many months to actually realize they did after all and then rushed out a "fix" which was in itself flawed. Anyone who has been around since pre-alpha has seen hese instances happen and happen multiple times. Failing and making mistakes is not a problem, it is what you do to fix it and learn from it that defines success. And so far NQ has not learned much , if anything. Their general motto seems to still be "you just do not understand, so let us try and explain this again". But as no amount of solid arguments I can put out here will convince you of anything but your own POV, I'm not going to continue on this discussion.
  18. Hilmar may not be the perfect CEO. But he understands the game and he knows what he needs to do to keep the game alive and generating a healthy profit YoY. He has also actively played the game from early on. He is also able to make tough calls for the good of the game and has a deep understanding around many crucial aspects of the game. It is why he has been CEO for 17 years now and has been able to at least deliver stable leadership and performance with regards to revenue. He also does not shy away from tough questions by talking around the issue. But this is not about CCP, EVE or their CEO. I understand your POV but I do not share it. I do not need to try and find a way to convince you you are wrong as I know full well that is pointless so I would not even try. Maybe you should consider doing the same and not try silly arguments that really have no relevance here. I quit playing EVE because I found myself logging in and not really feeling like doing anything, it had nothing to do with the game or it's leadership. I choose to stop playing DU because I believe that currently it is a waste of my time, it doe snot provide what I expected it would and do not believe NQ will be able to make the game a success, despite its massive potential and promise, unless they make drastic changes in the way they engage with het community and pull their collective heads out of the sand. Initially I consider two possible outcomes for DU, right now I think there is three; 1. NG pull the plug as he has not found the company to be able to be turned around to justify a new investment round 2. NG restructures the company, pouts in the VC money and drives changes to get the company back on track, saving the game in the process 3. NG tries to right the ship with the resources he has. If he pushes change internally that may work but unless that change happens, NQ will fail The problem is not the game, it is NQ. And yes, I could be completely wrong. But so far I have not seen anything telling me I am an din fact all I see is that I've been at least pretty close to what is going on right now, only time will tell.
  19. Personally I've written off the pledge as a loss the moment I made it anyway as that is how I generally view such things. But I know of and am sure there's others who do not feel that way and may/will pursue this if NQ does not provide the proper compensation.
  20. That is correct when you talk about the feature set and game play promise made in this case. The KS and backer packs were pitched/sold on the premise of a specific value proposition, being how much value the DAC included would have. The sale of these packs is a contract stating that if you buy this, you will get this much value in return. As it stands that value is mostly half of what was promised and so the contract is not honored. There is a distinct possibility that NQ will run into trouble due to this. You can't just pretend like everything is fine when you sell something at a value of $100 and then deliver $50, you have to ensure you deliver what you agreed. And so far NQ has not said anything about how they will compensate the loss of value for pre-"beta" backers. The Sapphire founder pack promised 40 DAC with a value of €720 (€18/DAC) at launch, currently the value of those 40DAC, assuming that DAC would be sold at a higher price than pure game time with a fairly industry standard markup of 30%, is about half that. Up until a month before beta, NQ sold packs on the basis of the value proposition that a DAC would be worth around €18. When they announced the actual game time pricing, they said they would provide clarity on how they would compensate for the loss in value but have failed to do so.
  21. @rothbardian I understand where you are coming from but do not agree. Standing by your ideas, forcing your vision on the people who pay your bills and in doing so risking the lively hood of the people you employ by risking the future of the company you run is not a "quality", it's called reckless and bad business and it gets you removed from the CEO position which is what happened to JC. Having a vision is good, great even. Not having the ability to make your vision retain what it can while matching it to what is realistically possible is what makes you a good business person. The concept of DU is great and offers a promise not seen anywhere else currently, that I will certainly agree with. But JC lacks the ability to see that what you dream may not be what you can achieve on someone else's dime and that is what happened to NQ. It remains to be seen where NQ goes. Until we learn where NQ will take the company, nothing they say or suggest they may do matters. And even if the VC provide fresh funding, it remains to be seen if NQ with the current staffing will be able to turn this around. Great things are built on dreams but are enabled by the extent to which those dreams are able to become reality. That is a lesson NQ has not yet learned it seems they are stil very much at the stage of "if we just explain our vision often enough, people will get it and we'll be just fine"
  22. Oh, I am pretty sure Naerais knows better. she is also a team player. The current flurry of "presence" of a CM is entirely in line with the pattern we've seen for the past 3+ years from NQ If that continues and more importantly continues to increase then sure, this may indicate a change. But so far it is not indicating anything new. NQ was here .. Then this happened: And the real question that needs to be answered is whether the new commander will fly the ship "second start to the right" or down to the scrapyard. No amount of blogposts or positive presence will mean a thing otherwise.
  23. If they were a very good company they would not be where they are currently and DU would be an actual game, at least in actual beta with a healthy player base. Also, I applaud and appreciate your optimism but comparing NQ to any major industry giant frankly invalidates your argument to begin with.
  24. ROFL @joaocordeiro It's off topic for NQ though, unless you are a high profile player with friends inside NQ, then the original forum is the correct place for the post as we've seen several times. But that is a general thing with NQ, using different standards and measures depending on the person and all of this really says more than NQ may want to admit and as I wrote before is perfectly aligns with my sense of their attitude regarding community engagement. NQ is pretty much a "if you are not with us, you are against us" company
  25. I'm not really bitter though, more frustrated and disillusioned in NQ and their in ability to understand the basic concepts of community engagement and communication in general. I fully expect the CMs in NA to know better while playing along for now. But I'm tired of the frustration so better to just leave the game behind. I hate to see DU go down due to the way NQ seems unable to right the ship but as things are going right now, that seems pretty much inevitable. I'll be perfectly happy to be proven wrong but I have no interest to stick around in-game on the off chance that happens, NQ has used up their chance cards in that regard in the past 3.5 years. I also do expect that IF NQ manages to pull it out of the fire then a wipe will be unavoidable so everyone will start fresh at some time closer to a "release" anyway.. Like many others I may return to the game at that time. Even grabbing the daily 1.5M quanta I can collect is not worth keeping the game active for and my characters have had their training queues filled. for another year or so
