  1. It works like a helicopter when hovering, which is exactly what you are observing. You can either learn to hold it in place by tilting, or hold it still by using the brakes (press CTRL).
  2. There are literally no orbital mechanics in place: the planets do not rotate, the planetary bodies do not orbit each other, the sun revolves around the planets and not vice versa. The planets are at fixed coordinates, so the distances between them are also fixed. The only thing there is for you to "model" are the gravity wells around the planets, but given that the engines are very powerful, fuel is cheap, and the magical space brakes work without consuming any fuel, there's not much point in trajectory modelling, to be honest.
