  1. You know what would be awesome?

-This is it. The expansion that adds Stargates. You and your org are gonna go blasting off, Team Rocket style!

-But wait! Stargates need a new resource you've never heard of before, "Super-Mega-Extra-Unobtainium".

-Everyone is looking for it now, the prospectors are out in force. The first person to find this new ore will become filthy rich.

-Suddenly, someone reports in, "We found it! It's here at these cord- wait, whats that? No, it can't be. Retreat, RETREAT! They're everywhere, They're everywhere! Shoot them, shoot them! AHH----"

(Through the power of respawn technology, they tell us that the planet is infested with bugs. huge insects. 100's of millions)

-With too many to fight alone, all of the major orgs put aside their differences to wage one massive bug war!

-Slowly, but surely, we clear the planet of the bugs, and their nests, and find the ore we were looking for.

(Then somebody blows everybody else up, steals it, etc)

-Finally, with the "Super-Mega-Extra-Unobtainium" in hand, somebody builds a stargate, and shoots off into the future!

    Yes, it's basically Starship Troopers.

Realistically, the stargate expansion would probably come before the "monsters, bugs, and other nasties" expansion.

And then, after a few weeks/months, a field emitter is developed that repulses the bugs away. Just imagine how quickly a mining outpost or military base could fall if someone were to, say, conduct sabotage on said field emitters.

  2. Instead of the nanoformer picking it up then placing it down, you could have it so that the battery/crate is first selected and then given a location for it to be beamed to (maybe have a maximum distance that the crate can be transferred so that it doesn't get beamed several KM across the countryside). Whilst we are at it, you could also have industrial sized nanoformers that, instead of building, are specialised in transporting items around using the same method.

  3. Well, there is already some rudimentary code for path-finding (that is currently being used for testing) that could be extended to create the AI for these "Monsters". However, there is the question on how to populate many life-bearing planets with unique creatures (unless it is the colonists that introduce the fauna into the ecosystem). Also, I think planets that have any life on them should be rare (to begin with).

  4. Well, that's the thing though. In EVE for example, people go for Black Ops bombing runs on infrastructure, like reprocessing plants, or industrial hubs. Taking out an alliance's factories, can go a long way.

For a real world example, check the Six Days War as an example of a smaller force, taking on a much greater opponent by going for their key strengths.

Initiative is a very powerful weapon. Same thing for DU if a trauma mechanis was to be added. It would guarantee certain attacks would be going down on certain places. Take out a faction's medical supplies industrial hubs, then slowlly drive them off by deadly ambushes.

In addition, a smaller force is easier to wield, and is usually faster. They are also much easier to replace.

  5. Why do you need a protection bubble when you can just have a massive shield generator that makes it near impossible for raiders to damage you? You could even have massive solar panels to help with fuel economy. If it is a nomad fleet (like the migrant fleet from Mass Effect) then NQ could add in Fortress Shields that creates a shield around multiple ships (the way that would work is a somewhat different discussion)

  6.

    Quite right!

That's why I wrote that they should look at it. The simple question in the office, who would like to do that ... Et voilà, your potential candidates are given.
And if really something should not work, you can also ask the people in the forum. I would help. That goes without saying. After all, we are a community.

And ultimately you could see it as a pilot project. You do it once and draw your feedback from it.

I was, after using up all available topics, going to ask NQ on something that they want answered or something that is currently unknown. I currently have about 3 videos out now and some more on the way that should last me until alpha at one video a month.

  7.

Yes, I did in the past. Now I am in a company that works with ITIL. (What is common in the IT industry)

In the last sentence I do not agree. Here is the reason:
JC gives 10 interviews with 10 different people, one hour each. So he explained in 10 hours, 10 times that he has a scientific background and you read 10 times the star-destroyer example.

Instead of peddling, people are picked up. Youtuber get the necessary information, make videos and it distributes by itself.

Why do you think that it would not have any added value?

    - So you have an overview of what they are working on
    - You see how the game goes ahead
    - Players form an opinion about the game and the company. (PR!)

I mean, we're not talking about the fact that you should stream every week. Once a month for maybe 1 hour.

The way that would work is Youtuber/media outlet makes a list of questions/topics that they would like to make a video on. Youtuber sends this to one of the community managers (who may or may not also have other jobs), who then relays this to the correct people. Youtuber receives answers (even if they are 'idk') and then makes a video. The problem for the devs though is that no one is doing regular DU videos, therefore they don't know who would work (in return, I say challenge accepted) and that it may annoy some of the dev team who just want to get on with work. It also has the potential to backfire due to either the CM or the youtuber misinterpreting things and the general flux of pre-alpha/alpha.

P.S. To anyone from NQ reading this, I am willing to be your voice.

  8. 1. More viewers = More potential backers = More revenue.

    2. I'm pretty sure you have to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which is common at this stage.

The revenue potential is in long term players, rather than short term. Also, we have no clue if there is an NDA (it wouldn't be preferable if there was, transparency and everything after NMS), but I will be sure to ask closer to the time.

  9. I think losing your skills is a bad idea simply because it would not be fun. But maybe some other less extreme penalty. Like a time period where all your skills are lower this would stop people from just respawning and hoping right back into the battle. Also it could be explained by cross dimensional travel makes you a little out of it. I really do not think this will work well in a fun sense though.

There just so happens to be a thread on that, that has also been mentioned on this thread twice now! https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/10334-trauma-mechanics-and-emergent-gameplay-consequences/

  10. DU is a MMO...you HAVE to update to be able to play, everyone is required to use the newest version of the game.

As in Steam automatically updates the game in the background, rather than having to open the launcher to manually update. Gift in that it is convenient, curse because it kills the internet when there are six of you in the same house all using the internet and your connection is stone-age.

  11. If the sub isn't done through steam, do they still take a cut of the sales?

I would say that they don't take a cut of sub money, but instead take a predetermined amount of money to keep it on the store page. Need to ask CCP about that

  12. 2.Search the forums shows no response in the list on the first page.

Use advanced search. There are also many ways of finding cloaking related topics, such as stealth, camo or detection. This word search also picks up if the word was said in a reply, not just the original post.

"hyperspace travel" its fast travel when ship does not use the main engines

In DU, there are two different methods of FTL. The first is Warp, using your standard Alcubierre system of comppressing space-time, and the other is through the use of jumpgates, however the way that that works is unknown. Examples include a permanent wormhole, quantum teleportation or a bridge that goes through a higher dimension (aka, hyperspace). Note that warp travel is meant for interplanetary use, whereas jumpgates are for interstellar use, and that what you are referring to as 'main engines' are called 'sub-light' engines (it makes you sound more impressive that way).

Now to add my point: I think there should be a warp drive that can be used by a stealth ship, but it is REALLY SLOW so as to not cause many visible fluctuations in space-time. Other than that, the main way some of your favourite space games say they detect other ships with is with heat signatures. In order to hide it, you need heat sinks to bottle up the heat energy so that it does not radiate into space and let people know where you are. However, when heat levels get too high, you would need to either drop this stealthy business or let it continue to heat the ship up, to the detriment of the crew and ship systems. Eventually, an override kicks in and jettisons the heat sinks into space, causing you to lose your cloaking but save what might be left of the ship (just hope your warp drive didn't die, otherwise you are a sitting duck).

Edit: damn you Twerk for getting there before me!

  13. I propose the use of quantum probabilities to exchange the methane molecules for hydrogen and oxygen atoms, perhaps even their complete pure water molecules. This new technology can then be used to turn farts to life giving water. A fart-purifier if you will. This will save the worlds cattle farms and in so doing ensure beef for all. The steaks have never been higher.

technically it will also doom other universes to endless fart smells

  14. Ice in space engineers just feels odd but you could easily switch those voxels out later with a volumetric type if you absolutely needed to

With somewhat disastrous consequences upon the application of the update (mass flooding maybe?)

  15. The idea is for hunger to slow you down

This will psychologically make it sound like a bad thing, a chore (like what rest xp was in WoW). Instead of "You are low on calories, therefore you have slowed down", phrase it like "The increased caloric intake has given you excess energy that allows you to do more, faster"
