  1. To be fair though, there's been no mention of gravity inside ships that I can recall... there is anti gravity drives and the like but nothing said about a way to simulate gravity. With the complexity of the game and what we know we can do so far, I doubt they would leave this out, it is a critical thing to have in a space game where you can build space stations, otherwise everyone just floats about. I suppose it doesn't harm SE if you build your constructs correctly, but for space stations it's a must I think.
  2. Alioth, I think, will be the only planet that has any arkships. That's been kind of indirectly confirmed with DevBlogs and the way Nyz speaks about the start of the game. With quotes like "it will take months before the first players leave Alioth" ect. The number of arkships I assume is several, simply because there are screen shots of multiple arkships leaving earth bound for the stars, however the 5 part lore doesn't state several arkships and only the one 'seban?' awakes on. So unless someone can find a confirmations, the number of arkships is unknown. What I would suggest is to read the lore. Maybe missed a direct suggestion of the number of arkships, or can't remember. I like the idea of having only one arkship though, with slight rules on removing people's abandoned constructs within the protected zone. But I don't want decaying rules anywhere else. I was thinking about this the other day, the universe is 'infinite' and you may need several bases of operations. I don't want to come back to one of my previous bases that I stored materials and ships in to find its decayed and everything is gone. The only place any decaying rules should be is directly outside the arkships. There is plenty of universe for you to build in, why removing things with decay when there is infinite space to build? For the actual spawning though, I don't think there is enough information out so far to give us any indication on the path they will choose for this. And I would bet Nyz will not be able to confirm how they are going to do this, neither the amount of arkships if you asked them. However if someone has something they've found to counter anything I've said, please link it. Maybe I'll read about RN's again, and the lore just to check
  3. I am not a fan of flying dildos (even if it does sound hilarious) there will always be the people who play the game just to fanny about and see how obnoxious they can be. Nothing you can really do about the shape of their ship, I think, but any restrictions that stop people doing stupid things that will wreck immersion I could be a big fan of.
  4. To be fair, the best way to think about ships is that there are no different siE ships... there are no large or small ships, only the size you decide to make them. If you want a shop with 100turrets on and only 20voxel blocks, go for it, if you can get it to work at least. All ships will be player designed, every voxel and every element. You want a small hole with 20thrusters and 1 weapon.. do it. There is nothing (so far) stopping you building whatever you want. As for mining vessels, again, they are just a ship... same as a ship with weapons, only your put a morning drill/laser on it. Ship design is 100% the player choice ..
  5. What I know is that there will be restrictions to lua, we don't know them yet and we might not know them till release, you never know what's capable with something so open untill you release it into the public. I would imagine there will be basic lua scripts you can buy and plug into the DCU? (Forgot what the modules called)... so anyone will have access to many lua scripts, but big complex lua will remain coder only unless sold, so there will be some advantage but not a great one.. (hopefully).. But that is the same as anything, you out in the time to learn something, you will be better than someone who hasn't learned that thing. Also, for the Minecraft part, if anyone makes Minecraft style objects and ships they clearly have too much time on their hands to get the shapes pure squares consistent. But if you meant the shoddy (mud hut) Minecraft objects I don't think you could avoid seeing that, that will be every new players go-to building. I'd prefer for any constructs player made be left player made and not interfered with, if someone wants to do something they should be able to do it, given doesn't break restrictions or rules ... Thinking now though, I'm not 100% sure on what the meaning of.your post was, but i hope I answered it on topic at least
  6. Welcome friend. So.you have a lot of experience in the space games I see, hopefully they will help you here .. This game will be great, and hopefully greater than all other space games combined, sure looks that way at the moment. I wouldn't worry about the language barrier and how well you do, there are already plenty of people who are not native English speakers, so if you need anything g translated I'm sure someone can help. .. or we have Google translate if needed... I hope you enjoy your stay in DU.. Nora,
  7. We are all just a little bit slow recently I think. We're all sitting here trying to decipher how the orbital physics will work when there is nothing gravity can do because we have "ANTI-GRAVITY ENGINES"............ Really... how did we all miss that, you don't need to keep something in orbit by circling the globe when there is not gravity to pull you back down..... +1 to Ripper!
  8. Welcome Zen, I've talked to you on the other forum posts, as have a lot of people, but since there are many people saying 'Hi' anyway I don't want to be the only one left out So yeah, Welcome to DU, I hope you enjoy your stay and I don't pirate you too much in the future
  9. I like this, I will +1 this and ask for a second helping of it. Not that I'm going to make use of this functionality but it sounds like a solid idea that could be benefital to a lot of people on the forums in the coming months
  10. Well then you just hire mercenaries or hire the local military as a defence force. This is where the emergent game play will shine. Where you need to consider trading not just items with other people, but other peoples time and resources to assist you in ways we can not yet think about, as we are not in the game I can't wait to attend something like this and watch the action unfold Also, 303 Posts.
  11. Welcome to DU, I like how you chose to used your first post, I think i understand some of your concerns. Large ships will be able to be piloted by more than one crew member at a time, I'm unsure if there is a negative effect on piloting a large ship with only 1 person, but multicrew ships are there so i would imaging its more that you get a benefit if you have more people piloting, rather than you get a negative if it's only 1 person. DU will be a single shard game, meaning that every single player who logs in will be on the same server, regardless of time-zone or player amounts. Even if every single player is in the main Arkship on Alioth, every player is still logged into the same server. Also, the game will start with all players spawning on Alioth inside a arkship, so the centre of the universe for every player is Alioth and i imagine it will always be since the arkship on alioth will be the only respawn point for a long time. DU is a emergent gameplay game. Meaning that we, the players, decide what is Law/ Politics/ Rules/ good/ bad ect.. inside the game, we build the buildings, we build the ships, we decide what the game will be, there is nothing pre-made by the devs other than a few select categories such as elements or arkships. FPS and ground battles i would assume will only be in the very start of the game, once a player has a ship it will be very ship based combat unless you are attacking a base/space station or trying to board someones ship. Land based vehicles (using tracks/wheels) i do not know about, unless you can create it from the tools the devs give you, as there is anti-gravity devices and thrusters as your main vehicle elements to do with transport/movement. Ships will be small to start with and they will grow in size, but the beginning of the game will be a long process of getting into space. The devs have stated that players made not leave the planet Alioth within the first few months because of the cost of building in the beginning, obviously it gets easier as you have machines to do the mining for you. So the length of time to get off the planet i think will be just for the first people into the live game. Research is a topic that is going to be discussed more in the future, there is a DevBlog going to be coming out about it in the future, we just don't know when. Your English is good, I would not worry about that, If I misinterpreted something you asked please just ask again, we are people from all over the world, many not being native English speakers themselves, so if we misinterpret something, just ask us again. We will try to respond with the correct answer, and if we can't, then there is always google translate or someone who speaks the same language Anyway.. Welcome to DU, I hope you enjoy your stay.
  12. This is the exact feeling of almost ever other person on the forums right now. We're all very anxious for the game and information about the game, there is only a finite amount of information that we can give you so far. And once that is gone, it is like having a drug habit you didn't know you had.
  13. Hi Rodier, Welcome to DU, there are several people who wish to throw money at NovaQuark so they can help/play DU and make it a better place, but unfortunately like Klatu said, kickstarter is a little ways off just now. I might temp you will reading through the DevBlogs though: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/05/24/the-first-images-of-dual-universe/ nora,
  14. Took you a while to notice that Astro.. See this is why you shouldn't take breaks from the forums, bad things happen when you are not here Not that I'm trying to be at the top, I'm just posting, but as you said... There is only 1 person left...........
  15. I'll +1 this, There have been plenty times I've seen someone go from the nicest person alive to a dictator in one fell swoop just because they were given 'some power' to do something. Happens all the time in games actually, was playing MC(Tekkit) not to long ago and a friend was given Admin rights. He went from being a nice person just making there creations in the world setting up factories to progress a little bit, to making profanities and offensive constructions right outside peoples bases because well.... he could now. He is a little childish at heart I guess, but AlexWright is right, Absolute power corrupts, if you are not capable of handling it that is. One thing is though, if there is going to be community moderators, set out a list of rules of when and when not they should use the powers given to them as a guideline and then give them the ability to use their own common sense on top of override these guidelines if needed. But again as Alex points out, everyone so far seems to be of a mature mind, so there shouldn't be any need for the forums to be moderated just quite yet, but always nice to put in preventative measures I guess.
  16. Interesting read, lost me a little bit in the beginning when you were introducing all the ship and I just didn't know what was what, can't really say I'm a fan of all the SG though, kind of want DU to be it's own thing and not borrow from other stories to create it. The only part that I don't like is the "recharged their FTL drive for the first of several long jumps", as I don't want a FTL system that relies on multiple jumps to get from A to B.. I'd prefer it be one continuous movement all the way there, you just need to charge it longer for a longer distance maybe? But all in all, interesting read would be interesting if this actually came to happen in the game too
  17. The only thing I see as a problem with orbital physics, other than the computations required to do it, would be the extra systems needed to be put into the game so that you could work with orbital physics. Think about trying to get a ship into orbit on kerbal if you didn't have the map view or the nav ball ? Would be next to impossible the first hundred times you did it, because you wouldn't be able to see your 'Pe' to judge if your out of atmosphere or not. Like you say, orbital physics is hungry work, but if they would get that in and make it work with the systems required. That would be awesome.
  18. No-one tracks me, and your defence turrets won't even see me. Infact you'll probably invite me to the gathering and not even realize... and by the time you do... it will be to late ...
  19. Group messages I think are limited to 4/5 participants max. At least that's what it tells me in private chats..
  20. Your chances of beating me in any racing situation is approximately 3720:1..... .. But nah, I'm waiting on the full game to come on out, sick of all the crap that follows it now, some people are just not very 'smart' when it comes to SC...
  21. Welcome Miguel, You are in the right place if you want to play something with other people. This game doesn't have servers, or player caps that other games have to reduce down the stress on the servers by lowering the amount of players being in a single area. Everyone is just in the Universe, and you are in that universe. I cannot say that you will have a cooperative experience 100% of the time, as this is neither a PvP or PvE game, this is a game that the players choose to make, it could be fully players fighting for power, or it could be a game where every player joins together to work towards a common goal even attacking one and other. It is to early to tell, but I can say that there will be people in the universe that want the same thing as yourself. So you will not be alone I hope you enjoy your time in DU nora,
  22. Problem is, you could ask all them questions but i think Nyz is bound by the devs to not say anything that can be taken wrongly, and only give out 100% accurate information. So the chances that anything about the gravity and transferring from planet to planet will be confirmed is low for the time being sadly .. Unless Nyz's is feel generous
  23. I don't believe there will be a hindrance, because there is no unfairness about it as you can trade/sell your scripts I think (not 100% sure).. So if that is possible whatever is designed/coded is kinda available to everyone. not sure if peple will want to sell them but the option is there, it's not locked to a single person. So I too hope/ think there is no hindrance to coding lua.. I've just got to sit down somewhere and learn it ><
  24. Don't worry about me I'll just bring myself and my quick hands while your all greeting each other and leave a little wealthier
