  1. Can you define hate speech? Because what is offensive to you, may very well not be offensive to someone else.

Twitter has been censoring people too, and look at their share price over the past year as a result of it.

This is getting a bit off topic here, but leading into a future where corporations are the arbiters of what is acceptable speech and what isn't is a ripe brewing ground for a dystopian future.

As I said above, what will likely determine their course of action is the law in France around types of speech.

Its up to NQ or any private entity to determine what's allowed and what's not within their domain. If they say no swastikas, no hate based speech or symbolism then that's it, not allowed go somewhere else if you want to be a racist, bigot etc.

But honestly its not really THAT subjective, bigoted, racist, homophobia is rather clear as to what it looks like.

Also I think some get freedom of speech confused with freedom from responsibly of your speech.

  2. I try not to get caught up in the sciencey wiencey stuff too much. Try being the operative word. Theres already enough nightmare fuel out there. As long as it works and it brings me back I'm fine being blissfully un-aware of the finer details of the process. Though I also see the flaw in this thinking as not knowing is likely worse, hence adding more nightmare fuel. Like seriously what if this copy or whatever it is has three arms, or two heads or.... other different things in important places.... shudders. :o

So yeah, just going to be happy it works, and carry on. B)

  3. I believe the Circular /Adaptive research approach would be more player friendly on a game like this. You never know what might happen day to day in a survival game and this could help it be more forgiving. No one wants to be stuck out in space with a broken engine after your engineer rage quits and you have to re learn 20 skills in a tree to fix it.

Well, it is an MMO after all, should be able to rely on help from more than just that one person. Suggesting that it should be fast or easy to learn new skills? Yeah no thanks. Again regardless of skill tree design it is still an MMO and you should have to rely on others to fill in the gaps of things that you lack.

  4. Yeah its probably one of the best made sci-fi shows I've seen in a while. Can really notice the attention to detail they gave to everything. Its def not as popular as it should be, as its better then most of the crap being put out lately.

and its just get re-upped for a third season yay!

  5. I don't really get why people always think it's the most important thing to have huge numbers. Numbers alone never make up a good org or a successful one. It's the people who make it good at certain tasks.

Even when you're talking about pvp/military/tactics huge numbers don't change that much because of several things:

    - people are stup....special. Half of the people online will not get the commands (fly there!) because they're rambling or not focused enough

    - many of them don't even have pvp experience and just can't handle all the information, commands and chaos thus making them slow and/or not effective

    - you'd need huge amounts of bandwidth to handle such numbers on teamspeak or any other server. Or you split all those people but then you need some to pass information to others which confuses many and they then can't fight effectively

    - Timezones and playtimes. Lots of people think that 1000 people is a huge number for a military for example, while the truth is: it's not. Considering playtimes and timezones you probably have 50-100 people online at any given time

Smaller orgs can be way more effective and fun to play in because you don't have to deal with bloated inside-politics, such orgs consist of friends with similar playtimes and no special snowflakes.

I need to quote the kitty here:

"Everyone always wants to play a leader or a soldier. No one wants to play support"

    Yep this.

Also being first or being a guild before the game launch's isn't as important as some might make it out to be. A good well run, organized, cooperative guild will be so regardless of when they were established.

  6. I think the linear branching tree design is probably the simpler thus cheaper way to go. It works so why try to reinvent the wheel. You have categories for each different aspect, weapons, combat, armor, prospecting/scanning, economy etc. Then as they get used you get skill points or such to further in the tree. Simple.

  7. Yea, as I said I do not think the corps in the community portal will mean anything anyhow.

Yep this. I think it was more of a gauge of interest for NQ as well as something to get the community engaged at an early lvl.

At best I could see them doing like SWTOR did and these guilds will transfer into the live game on launch day to make launch day guild logistics a bit easier. You still needed actual live accounts to transfer into the game so even if that is the plan these fake Orgs won't be a factor as there won't be anything to transfer into the live game.

  8. I agree. Plus, collision damage is very intensive on the servers so it would make it more difficult for the servers to handle large congregations of people and ships.

Plus another concern is game balance, IMO. If ramming is more effective then using guns and turrets then ramming will be all anyone does and ship design will get boring with ships all being made for ramming. Should always have to damage with weapons then use collision to block and board I think.

  9. I loved that game.

Oh and for now you can demand whatever you want but server stability and better core features of the game > "realism" like collision damage.

    Yep this.

With their limited budget and small team its best they get the core features working first.

Also I think some might be merging collision with collision damage like they are the same exact thing. The game pretty sure will have collision, it just won't have damage from that collision. Not at first at least. We'll have guns and boarding at first, other features can wait.

  10. For Pre-Alpha the environments looks great, IMO.

Other favorite part was the shaping of the voxels. Will give more options and unique looks when its not all just square edges and rectangles that make up our constructs.

Also I hope later they plan on designing different types and shapes of the pre-made elements like the cockpit and engines. Will add even more customization to vehicles.

  11. With the sandbox nature of the game I don't think actual in game mechanisms to declare war really fit. Most likely you'll know or won't be surprised if a guild or Org attacks you, meaning they'll likely start posts on the game forums,  send warnings and ultimatums etc. Politics and such will hopefully happen organically as they should in sandbox type games.

  12. Based on hints from the Devs these stargates are going to be HUGE undertakings. You're not just going to build one with your guild over a weekend. So with that in mind I doubt they will be very easy to destroy if at all. Most can probably do is blockade one for a while I would think.

  13. Yeah I mean why ever bother with wheels when we got hover and anti-grav tech. Seems like wasted resources to me. Besides this is sci-fi, future tech etc, would look even sillier if there was a bunch of wheeled vehicles roaming around, IMO.

  14. Don't see any problem, if it is very hard to control everything. Most important it is possible. You will be "f*ked up" by requirements to have all personal everytime, when you need to do something. Do see any single reason to have this OVERCOMPEXITY at all.

You still didn't answer the questions.

If you don't have a group, then you fly a smaller ship or be severely gimped flying a larger one.

But yeah if can't understand why its bad to allow players to solo things that are meant to be group based, then not much else to say really.

  15. Think the language barrier is perhaps hindering his understanding of the issue.

Its simple: you have small ships, medium, large ships. If the large ships are the most complex, most powerful in the game and oh by the way you can solo play one by yourself, that does several things all of which are bad for an MMO. It reduces the need to socialize and work as a team and it removes the need and purpose of those other ships once you build a large one.

  16. I want examples and fact from your imagination and theory, not just overall words.

You say, engineering role, damn what is it? What player need to do? Or shields? Power management, damn are you from medival, special role for that? Communication? What you mean at all?

That what I mean! You list just a empty words (everyone understand it as imagination allows), but 0 samples how it can works even in theory (by special crew member role).

Don't take me wrong, I don't saying everything must be 1 players easy controlable. But I want understand what is "crew-control" in your imagination, what and how players need to do.

Personally, I'm for multi-crew, but not as requirement. If player great in multitasking, game must allow control even huge ship by one player. It must be hard, it must be stressful, but it must be possible. If player can't control everything by him/her-self, then multi-crew is an answer.

    Thanks,

    Archonious

If the game is to have any semblance of balance and fair play then no the game most NOT allow it. Doesn't matter if its hard or stressful if one person can do it then anyone can do it and there will be guides up 5 seconds after launch then everyone can do it. So gratz you just completely removed the need for socialization and teamwork in an MMO. We'll all be soloing capitol ships and not other constructs will even have a purpose.

Bottom line the bigger more powerful the ship, the more complex yes absolutely it NEEDs to be crewed by multiples of players.

  17. Don't think they've talked about an NDA or whether or not they'll have one or to what degree.

Based on past crowdfunded games its likely there won't be much of an NDA and streaming will be allowed. The idea being even if its in an early, unfinished, broken state they want people seeing the game or at the very the least the idea and concept of it and hopefully buying in to help fund it.
