  1. Oh yeah, no doubt. I don't plan on seeing any real world benefits by overclocking it... especially with a 980m for a GPU The 980m is a bottleneck on stock settings already lol Just want to see what I can do with it ^^ I am actually pretty impressed with the 980m though, deals with a decent amount of gaming.
  2. This was precisely my thoughts.
  3. I'm curious if someone is really 1-6 or not... I hardly knew how to use a black and white gameboy at that time, let alone a computer/forums.
  4. Haha, me too. That's for sure... interested in how this goes though Sent in a request for Svet's BIOS. Will definitely keep you guys posted.
  5. Wrong. http://valid.x86.fr/igp6v8 77 C stable at 5.2 GHZ That's a full GHZ over stock. Perhaps your generic thinnies are built that way, but once you get into desktop replacements... that doesn't seem to be the case. FYI: Most thin gaming laptops run from 80-90 C, unless you undervolt which is impossible on the i7 7700hq without serious tampering afaik. And by heavy load, I'm talking about benchmarks. 6. The BIOS CAN be safely unlocked, I do not have the expertise however. Unlocked BIOS usually have far more options and safety measures for such behaviour. (Which is why I want an unlocked bios). I will probably just go with Svets bios, as it isn't a hassle to get As for temps... not a problem. Rocking around 70 degrees under heavy load... imagine I can get that to 80 degrees and still be okay. I'm not new to keeping a pc/laptop cool. First thing I did was delid the 6700k and paste it all with grizzly conductonaut

    Gold+ Pledge

Individuality, renown, consequences. No one sees your account ID, I thought it was pretty obvious. I have no skin in the game... but it would seem to be pretty detrimental just to add a feature that allows you to have a silly name.

    Gold+ Pledge

One man's benefits can be the majority's detriments.
  9. Hades

    Gold+ Pledge

Your "done right" doesn't always align with the majority's "done right" Prepare for that, it also sounds like NQ is not going down that route either... much like most MMOs.
  10. Hades

    Gold+ Pledge

Huh, you're right. Thought they were taken off in the current pledges. How do people reserve their name currently?
  11. Hades

    Gold+ Pledge

It's definitely not the first option... as the kickstarter surveys accepted either one name or a first/last name. There was discussion on it during that time period, if you can find the thread... you may find information you are looking for. As for the second, who knows... I imagine it will simply be first come first serve ala most games out there. I wouldn't be opposed to this option though, creates competition for creating renown for your name ^^
  12. Hades

    Gold+ Pledge

Fixed to lessen confusion. No one explicitly got a name reservation in their pledge, just ID cards which... come with a name reservation. As it would be strange for you to have an ID card with someone elses name on it, ya? As for the topic at hand... I don't think name reservations should be offered at this point in time. Names were given out on an individual basis via a survey... unless they have a system that requires less manpower... I give it a no go. Two people could have put in the same name, and that conflict would have to be handled by a real living person. Granted, probably didn't happen often or at all during the Kickstarter since there are so few people... but it still creates issues. Similarly, it requires linking between survey and account which at the time required a person. The question we all have to ask is, is it worth it? I say no. Chances are your name won't be taken... and being in alpha will practically guarantee you the name. Assuming names transfer across builds. Furthermore, I imagine they're still digging through the responses and whatnot... why add more? The name-reservation seems like a taxing add on to the kickstarter, and should stay as such.
  13. EVE Online has been around for what... 10-15 years? Vendetta Online has been running for at least 10 years. Mortal Online has been kicking for at least 5. Runescape has been around for a long time as well... I believe they had a free/subscription type deal going on too. You keep saying we can't count WoW... but I say we can. That thing is as old as time as well. Darkfall Unholy Wars (closed now, but also had a sub fairly recently) So many F2P games tank within the first year... most of these games have been around since the beginning of MMOs Every single F2P game gets tiring, but games that had a sub (for me Face of Mankind, Darkfall, Mortal Online) kept me interested for years. The re-emergence of P2P is a clear indication that players are willing to pay for subs for superior content once again.
  14. Final Fantasy XIV Mortal Online There are many games out there that have a "free" version that is severely gimped, and then a members/premium version with full content. Mortal Online is just one example of that. I believe DU may be going down that route as well, IIRC... Subscriptions still work, and I imagine that's why most of us are here ^^ Tired of F2P junkware.
  15. I'm personally of the idea that an editor that is just that... a ship creator would be fair. You'd simply be able to build the structure of a ship, you wouldn't be able to test it. Testing would be done in game with "physical" resources. Seems like a fair solution IMHO. That way you can spend multiple days creating a structure... without putting it in.

    DU Religions

My name seems pretty suitable for this thread.
  17. Bahaha, as others have said... we're going to need more musicians if we are going to balance the scale around here. I think I count as -100...
  18. From my experience alphas are used to bring feedback into the game and iron out bugs and unintended game mechanics, continually. Once the game reaches a point where the developers think all they have to do is add more content, then they push the game to Beta. Sometimes there can be a gap if they need to push a new server architecture or something, but generally they are straight through. Agreed though, no idea until it happens I suppose ^^
  19. Wrong, many games are emerging with a p2p model... because it DOES work. F2P is no longer working. Citation: Camelot Unchained Chronicles of Elyria Ashes of Creation Dual Universe I'm sure there are plenty of others.

    DU Religions

Religions/cults are actually pretty popular in these types of games... as they can "justifiy" certain behavior. You don't need to participate, and I probably won't either... but they create an interesting social dynamic. Even if it's only a small portion of the community, the impact can be large and severe.

    DU Religions

If there's anything I've learned... it's that religious intolerance does NOT work. And such a mindset is telling about the kind of person you (you being collective, not targeting you) are. I wouldn't worry about it... one bad apple doesn't represent the majority. I do agree with yamamushi though, that discussion isn't meant for a gaming forum and as such isn't really necessary.

    DU Religions

If a player creates a religion/cult in the DU... there's nothing to stop them. Except combat of course ^^
  23. Anyone know if there are any retailers that offer flashing an unlocked BIOS? Specifically for the MSI 16L13. Just picked one up for a steal of only $700 ^^ However, unfortunately it's running a gimped BIOS... can't play around with the i7 6700k as intended. Retailers I know sell unlocked BIOS on new systems: Eurocom HIDEvolution Places I know I can get an unlocked BIOS: Svet - but his BIOS is tough, with very few protections in place for messing up. I haven't been overclocking for very long, and don't really trust myself with his BIOS. Last resort I suppose Any of you guys know any other places I can try?
  24. So much this x100. The only thing that has me worried over what DU has ever said, was when they mentioned a potential cosmetic store. Practically the only posts I reply on are those about cosmetics... because it IS that important. Best to just keep it out of the game, and I sincerely hope that's the route they choose.
  25. My thoughts exactly. If constructs don't need a pass by devs, why do logos?
