I know this is JohnnyTazer haha. It's like...who else?

Sorry Johnny, but you do have a reputation for being quick with the F-word and "opinionated" about the game. ?

Prove it. No, really. Prove your point. Where is your factual evidence that only the larger orgs bought up all of the L cores? Go on, bring out the market scripts and spreadsheets that prove your allegations.

Weeks ago, as the devblogs we coming out for this patch, several of the people I talk to realized that they wanted L cores, so a few of these folks bought more than one. I almost bought two, myself, but decided to let things sort themselves out as hoarding and speculation are things I am not interested in supporting. See,  anecdotes are fun, but completely useless in support of a factual argument.

There were still L cores available just a couple of days ago, I checked the prices as I was considering selling, but again that's not my play-style, to sell off useful items for a quick buck.

It did not take a genius to see that higher end items, from dynamic L cores to territory scanners, to container hubs, and so on, would be bought up or withdrawn from the market. All in anticipation of either a shortage or for the purposes of manipulating the sale price immediately after the patch hits, in the hopes that worried players will pay outrageous sums.

I am beginning to think that some of the loudest moaners on these forums are purposely driving panic, so that they can profit off the newer players or those without a lick of sense, in game. It takes zero insider info to do this, only cynicism and a measure of greed.

Those who bang the drums loudest aren't necessarily the most correct, just the loudest. Although the possibility for insider info exists, that does not make it true here, especially as the devblogs were widely available and not limited in access to a mere few friends of friends. So, instead of casting aspersions, sans any hard evidence, perhaps a calmer approach would be more healthy.

Also, the numbers on the update live stream were pretty low at around 840'ish tops. SE had an update a week or so ago and got around 4000 viewers and that wasn't really anything major.
I just don't think they have the player numbers, they need to keep pvp players happy, not just voxel creators. Pvp will be the only thing that will keep DU online for any length of time (just imo).

    I wish them luck though.

I joined the game on 24th of Sept.  They have very generously given me an extra month too.
Whilst I'm frightened by the new patch I definitely believe its necessary.  I also believe that the game will need more massive rebalance patches in the future especially once PvP gets going.
The way I see it the game is still in an alpha state.  Its been sold as beta so people have beta expectations.  IMO it wont be out of alpha until territory atmo warfare is launched. Which if le-souriceau post is right wont be for 7 or 8 months.  That is when I think a lot of players would return or join for the 1st time.  I don't think there is much point getting people back before then.  To sum up, the player base has dropped because people were sold beta but got alpha, so no point getting them back until its in a beta state.  Lets hop the money does not run out before then

I'm on the camp of "it now makes sense for me to specialize in making my own niche of stuff", because everyone won't be able to make everything they need now. I can now build the few specfici parts that are used in the blueprints I'll be offering, and the spares go on the market, woo!

I think it's an overreaction stemming from actually having to interact with people now, in an MMO.

That said, bugs and disconnects that cause crashes will definitely be more salty. Buuuuut in theory if your ship keeps moving you should be able to use an ECU to keep your ship flying until you get back into your seat on login? In theory? If you have the right ECU to keep flying or stopping depending on circumstances? I dunno, yet to be seen.

This is a mmorpg, so it makes sense for players to have a need for others to achieve things in the game, otherwise we would be playing a survival singleplayer which is not what DU wants to be, nor was ever marketed as such.

"Large organizations will have an advantage"... I've heard this so many times, and again it's a baseless claim. The economy has and will have producers of different sizes, from the solo player to the largest organization. An organization with 100 players may end up producing 100 different elements earning 100 mlns, the solo player will simply produce 1 element earning 1 mln, which makes sense since the reward/player ratio is the same. You don't have to produce everything to compete as a producer, nor you're alone against the large organizations since there'll be plenty of other solo players/small orgs participating in the economy, trading and supporting each other.

Specialized roles and a working economy will benefit the game greatly, making it more likely for players to play the way they want, since now we start needing each other for production so we effectively pay people to produce elements for us, instead of building industries for self production. One day we'll see other parts of the game require more specialization and it won't be that easy for a miner to pilot a large cargo ship, nor it will be easy for a pilot to use a weapon: we'll need each other and be willing to pay them to do a specific job that we can't do. At that point we'll see new kinds of jobs rise naturally (bounty hunter, miner, hauler, ... ), which is part of what being a sandbox means.

DU isn't just a building game for creators, NQ wants to create an actual society that in a way works as a self-sufficient ecosystem, and it relies around the equilibrium between all parts and entities that take part in it. This change is one of the first that goes in that direction.
