  1. What I want to know is where are those PvPers getting the money to buy my ships?

First there's the general question of where game money comes from in DU... in most MMORPGs it comes from NPC/monster drops. In one game I've played it is purchased for RL cash by the players (that's how that game is monetized). DU is very short on NPCs, so where does the money come from. Will we be trading DACs (purchased for cash) for raw goods?

But wherever it comes from, how are the PvPers earning game money?

It's exactly what I've pointed out before on a previous topic. I think the one about DACs being lootable/ unlootable, but not so sure. It was a topic about money though.

  2. The ingame voice needs to be better or atleast as good as alternatives such as teamspeak, discord etc. Otherwise the only purpose of it is for talking to strangers/mic spamming.

The point is talking to someone you are close at or come across with, TS wouldn't give you that feature, and the spammers can get reported. Anyway, I think the orgs masters only should have the right to use city-speakers to inform the population.

  3. Be smart about it then.

And sometimes you just need luck or good timing. Or friends for a foundation. Sometimes you are just out of luck.

    That is how it is.

And hey. You don't get far (after release)? Disband or merge and join another moderate one or look for those willing to merge into yours. No use struggling when you are not satisfied while alternatives are there.

But let's outsource this discussion. I'll make a thread about it later when I can. Half a day from now on.

    Thanks. Yes, good idea.

  4. ...Land somewhere out in the wild where there is space. If you have a big ship, invest in a hoverspeeder...

I just had an idea. What about a making-invisible-integrated-dome engine into the ship you have (that said not for bigger ships), so that you ship becomes invisible from the outside of the bubble? A little bit like in Planetside 2 with the deploying vans. Just landing and sticking on an asteroid's surface could let you pretty much hidden.

  5. That was goddamn legendary!

But we are getting off track.

Long story short: Subscription based payment is a win-win for everyone. They get a constant flow of money, they make a better game, we play that game.

Yeah I believe hardcore gamers will put money on to it when the game will really release and returns with that.

  6. Not really the same idea. In mine the name chosen would be the permanent name. The first to discover/claim it would be the one to pick a name from the list. Then that's the planets name forever. It sounds ridiculous to me that a planets name would constantly change. Ownership and control changes sure but not the name.

Totally ridiculous. It would be preferable to have the constant name and then 'TU district' for example if TU owns the planet.

  7. If you have a connexion problem... Damn I hadn't thought of that. It's not as easy as filling a ticket. Of course when you buy the game you just need a good internet connexion. Another option would be to give the right of your ship to someone in the game you trust (or someone in charge of that in your org) to park your ship away. You could also have one ship playable by two or more accounts if you are on the same planet with a buddy and just do the craft when he does the research.

    About

we defend our home planet and kill all of those who think they can take our home-world we are the phoenix children if we die we are reborn and rise from the ashes and destroy our enemies. we seek to defend those who are to weak to defend themselves and we make peace if we can but will destroy if we are forced to. we hope to grow and defend those who cant defend themselves and become one of the big corporations.

    OUR LORE

is that we were forced out of our home-world due to the human ark ships from earth we were forced to leave due to there laws and government and slavery. but as the last phoenix came on bored one of there transport ships he vowed to return one day and take back what is rightful ours and he became our amazing leader who has Ben trying to make our empire great but he died and appointed his greatest general and asked him to make our civilization great again and so we call to all who wish to be reborn and ask them to help us grow and be great again.

You basically find a planet, rather a small one I suppose, and defend it, you concentrate in your planet only, it's a good point of view. And what's the name of the planet? You're aware you should find and conquer the planet at first when you'll begin to play?

  9. What if towing was a server-side function.

Lets say i'm playing, and I get disconnected. My ship lands in a no park zone, and a player reports it illegally parked. Game checks to see how long it is there, and at lets say 12 hours POP, ship vanishes. When I reconnect, i can pay a fine at the Arkship to get my ship back.

A but emersion breaking, but solves the illegally parked ship problem in a way that isn't crippling for someone who loses their connection.

Good idea. So the safe zone is a no park zone then? Could be. I mean it would solve a lot.

  10. 1) when its power runs out, it can be destroyed as normal even if it's in a safe zone.

For me it could be like that, like a counter, or with orgs creating garages, but it would be the mess in the safe zone that should be the only zone with no traces of any org's business.

  11. Ships are most likely going to stick around after a player logs off. In a safe zone, that ship is probably going to hang out there. Anywhere else, it can probably be damaged/destroyed (but not edited, reduced, taken apart, etc).

There is a chance that ships might be safe if they are in the jurisdiction of a Territory Unit, and certain protections are turned on. There is a chance ships will have a temporary shield when its owner logs off. We probably won't get to see any of this in action until after Alpha, well into Beta.

Even in the safe zone you could destroy one's ship.

  12. It makes all more sense now. Minecraft like, well better though. The doors but not only, I thought it could be the same about glass trunks (curved as the cockpits' glass, you would choose to attach them or not, to create spaces in your train for example, the size you like.

  13. Just to chime in briefly.

The large orgs always have advantages in terms of visibility and thus recruitment - and of course there are other advantages such as manpower. While on first glance it may seem like a "bottleneck" and problematic for smaller orgs, I think it's fine, really.

Not everyone goes for the large ones, or in other words, not everyone can join the same select large orgs. There are differences in the end such as themes covered and whatnot - or people simply like larger or smaller orgs and thus look around more. Despite large ones there will be no monopoly, in essence.

You can also do your part by being different or unique in the themes you cover and how you present yourself.

To summarize: Not all join the first org they see (no matter how small or large), some compare, some don't, smaller orgs can still compete in other areas if not manpower.

Still the large orgs are like 10, and if some small want to become large, it's not easy now the larger orgs have more visibility. You need to create your org in the forum and declare: 'I want to create a large org but different, all the brilliant folks come with me...' Damn, you'd look like a fool.

  14. A possible and fair way: to name them with the nickname of the founders (the players who helped to make this game real). By order of date of their contribution in Kickstarter campaign.

And if some of those nicknames are ridiculous, the organization of the explorer who found the planet (or system, moon, etc) can modify them properly.

Simply a fair way between other good ones. Perhaps several of all these ideas we expose could be applied.

Actually you gave me the idea. Giving a name to the first planet you encountered in first could be could. You couldn't choose a name but is would be your user name, without all the 'Xx', numbers and all, and not if it's some weird name like TheStrongWarrior, in that case you should choose between 'Strong' and 'Warrior' for your planet name. This would limit the names one could choose. Of course the buddies having a too weird user name would just have to choose amongst a list.
