    Real Rares.

I stil think some sort of rares system could work, even if its only cosmetic. With so much building going on it would be nice to be able to collect things to make your constructs unique. Similar how on old beach shack might have bits of old wreckage nailed to it or some weird ornate piece on the wall. A 'rare' event could be something like a Comet, once a month or whatever it passes through some sector of space, Aphelia pre-warns of its arrival, give people enough time to get their battle gear ready, then it becomes a fun battle to try and gain conttrol of that sector temporarily so you can harvest whatever is either on the comet or what is tail leaves behind, or even just a free for all scrap for the materials/items.
  2. Will this be a thing? I mean other than just free for all. Some player makes an arena on some planet, or a track around it. We could have organized events, inter-organization, one on one, group vs group. Use it for training new players.
  3. How is this going to work. Will we have multiple charcters with the same name allowed with an invisible number assigned to them or all unique names? Also will this just be your forum name or will be able to choose an in game nickname? Sorry if its a repeat I couldn't find a thread on it.
  4. Ooh, I like this conspiracy. 'There is something familiar about these artifacts..'
  5. 1. Buy a load of lego blocks. 2. Give them to a kid and tell them to build a spaceship. 3. Copy design. Seriously lol, Google 'lego spaceships' images for some easy to replicate blocky designs.
  6. Well not that kind of drama, I mean offensive, abusive, harrasment, stuff that doesn't belong in a game. I'm not looking for PVE. The kind of drama in that vid is fun but there are those that will go too far and ruin it for other players.
  7. I mean the ability to break contact with specific players in harassment cases not to avoid people all together, that would be silly. I'm not talking about the slightest provocation too, this is the internet after all, there will be.. drama's.

    Anti- Spam

The problem with 1. is that you lose the legitimate chat too. I would also consider the spam/different languages you get in most games far more toxic than any environment that resulted from the option to tune out the unwanted stuff. And on 2. yeh that is kind of what I meant with the account age thing, it stops alot of the gold sellers. It's a shame you have to rely on addons for this kind of function.

    Anti- Spam

Whatever communication method is used, please for the love of Ice Cream put in some kind of spam block function from the word go, one that preferably is editable so you can block phrases, words, account age etc. This is always left out in games releases.
  10. The single Shard model will probably open up a whole bunch of its own social issues. like If you don't get on with a person or a group, there isn't really anywhere to go other than offline. So it will be intersting to see how this impacts the gameplay. Keeping both Rookie and Veteran players active will be the tricky part because of various issues that already existed in MMo's, adding this new model will be interesting. We all know how poisonous the online community can be. It will be a huge job policing such an open game, which will probably be the cause of a load of forum grief and inevitable rage quits. The only way to avoid most of the issues will be to give players other activities that won't involve direct contact. As with all games, any content thats put in the game now will be absorbed in a ridiculously short time. This is often padded out in MMO's with some sort of grind. The only way to avoid the 'burn out' you get after years of a game with a grind mechanic is to change or add something. No-one will be happy with change so plans to add stuff for veteran players now will only benefit. Make the destination worth the journey.
  11. What are the plans looking forward years when it comes to new players? I've played numerous MMO's, a few of them for several years and they have all pretty much followed the same path. At first you play the game and level up and learn the ins and outs of the game, you reach end game and start getting the high end gear/vehicles. You get to stroke your Epeen knowing that you have some nice gear from your time and effort. After a couple of years, the playerbase starts to separate into hardcore and casual players. The blitzers have left by now(the ones that will probably post their reviews on release day), and your left with your core player base. Then the drive to get new players kicks in and what happens more often than not is the game starts to get dumbed down to accomodate the new players. As a result the gameplay suffers too. An influx of inexperienced players into a complex game usually creates some sort of drama, your original core player base starts to get fed up and drifts away from the game, either from frustration at not being able to find enough knowledgable players to play with or because it isn't vanilla anymore, boredom or some other game tweaking their interest. Now your heading towards a core player base that is largely new players, as a result more dumbing down and eventually you end up with an Arcade game allbeit one that makes alot of money because its a great business model. The worst part of all this from a player side(for me at least), especially on a MMO's is that it no longer matters how much time you put into a game, you just pay, skip the levelling and learning part of the game and jump straight in at the deep end locking horns with other players that have spent time and effort to develop their account over years. It's when the dumbing down starts I usually start to lose interest in a game. All the pre-planning and all the amazing ideas and designs are then wasted and forgotten. Do you have any thoughts on trying to keep the veteran players, either rewards for time played(e.g. gameplay tokens, unique skins) or maybe using some of them as in-game Authority(teachers, guides, moderators etc) or trying to maintain the 'vanilla' gameplay. Getting new players up to speed will be pretty important, a strong in game help system, automated or otherwise would help alot. Educate the player don't change the game.
  12. We know it destroys Earth but what about the rest of the Solar system? Will it be possible to eventually visit our old system? I know the Ark travelled for 10 millenia but at what speed? That would be fun to visit our solar system.
  13. Start an Organization for it? Given the scope of the game eventually there could be several Themed Organizations.
  14. Lol they're gonna be everywhere along with Millenium Falcons. I'm going to make a Voxel Astro
  15. Will this be a journal/ships log for a player to read in game or a Cinematic intro or something?

Oh I'm liking the complexity of this game more and more. There is potential for so much.

Well thats why I'm asking, I didn't play Eve so I'm not sure how the gameplay works on large scale space games. Presumably it makes sense to join some group early on and the larger the better?

Does that make getting an area 'rare' the privvy of larger groups? I mean if your a solo player or a small group couldn't you effectively be excluded from that part of the game if a large group has taken ownership, or is that where the games politics come into it?

'Stategic points'...That kind of leans towards another discussion I was looking at, someone was asking if the game would be full pvp or if there will be pve zones or even just safe zones. It would be nice to have something to do on the days you cba to pvp, I know there's mining but even that would be under the shadow of pvp?

Hmm, I'm not sure where your getting the gearscore and epix legendaries ideas from, I think your reading this post completely wrong. You mentioned WoW first in this post, I'm just replying trying to suggest an idea for some extra fun on top of what the game is. I am talking about introducing random inanimate objects that serve no purpose other than to be a reward/trophy. Some people like that sort of thing, if you don't then as it's an inanimate object you can choose to participate or not. In an open world the more there is to do the better. My influences are from before Wow I have no intention of suggesting any of its gameplay.

@LynkxDev This is kind of what I'm getting at, the rare I'm talking about wouldn't so much be a crafting mat or weapon component, that definition of 'rare' came from games such as Wow along with uncommon etc. I'm suggesting a rare in its literal form, as in if you found this item/artifact/ship/ornament/skin whatever, that one would be the only one like it to exist ever. As such it would become a valuable trading asset or center piece for a player/guild to fight over or a Trophy. As the game grows older some of the items would become treasures, others that players have in their possesion and havent logged on for ages with could become myth. The idea is from another MMO, an early one. I know people don't like to steal ideas and want everything new, but at some point your going to be using alot of the same ideas, I am suggesting using one of the ideas that worked well and I enjoyed, it may not be for everyone of course but as long as the items don't give you an in game combat advantage over other players then you could choose to take them or leave them. All they would need to do is to get your attention and they become desirable. Of course there would need to be some way of displaying the item to other players, either in game or by way of some forum league table. This is just an idea to flesh out the game.
  22. In the backstory, it says some of the Arcs missed their targets, some crashed. That leaves an open book for ideas. When Sohan's Arc crashed Aphelia's(The AI) behaviour changed. The crashed ones could have malfunctioning AI that you need to be able to deal with when discovered, eg. hostile defense/life support systems, or you could go the whole Battle Star Galactica/Terminator route and have one creating its own sentinels. Depending on their location you could have a whole wealth of resources or navigation intel worth collecting. After 9000 years the ones that missed their targets would probably be out of fuel and just drifiting endlessly until they hit something so effectively you have unlimited possibilities to extend the story, either by finding them on planets further and further out or catching one up.

No definitely didnt mean anything from WoW lol. They also don't have to be soulbound either, a rare artifact found somewhere could open up all sorts of gameplay as people would either try to buy it, steal it or destroy it. I'm talking about really rare too, not as in blue or purple, as only 1 or 2 existing at any time now or in the future.

Something I loved from another MMO was the rares system. Generate unique items to trade that will just keep going up in value that can either be fought for, won in events, sold, used as decor or just used for bragging rights etc. Rare 'unique' ships for example... not ones that everyone just does the kessel run in a dozen or so Parsecs to get. Like one thats been buried in a meteor for a while and found while mining or something.
