I have wished for a pvp game that did not have the enemy name plates up for a long time. It makes sense to see friendlies, esp if they are in your party, but it never made much sense to me to have enemy name plates up. I like to use terrain and cover in FPS but when your name sticks out, it kills that strategy. I would rather the default be off and the option to turn it on.
I completely agree.
Also, having names floating around your head is like a painted target for players who begin to get known and it's annoying.

Hello and welcome Metallical,
Somehow I missed all of these introductions a few days ago. And what an extraordinary influx of Landmarkers.
Same here. There is surely a conspiration somehow...
Sorry guys.
Indeed, that's a lot of Landmarkers. I'm beginning to feel that I'm the only one having never played this game...

Hi and welcome Angelsheart,
Yeah, take some cookies and drinks, we still don't need to craft them for now.

Hello dual explorers,
Alpha testers just want to make the game better (or, at least, they should).
So, in my opinion, best rewards would be to :
- Listen to them and give them the tools and opportunities to make positive and negative critics.
- Maybe let them chose some of the universe names like planets, items, or maybe become backstory characters ? I'm sure some of us would love to write our own stories .
Also, quick idea: it may be a good idea to organize some open discussions with game designers over TS/mumble/Skype. Looking at the number of alpha testers, it is still manageable.

Hello there and happy new year.
My thoughts on this subject :
- Backstory is necessary for role players but should not be automatic, nor mandatory. That way, it does not give potentialy sensitive data and will be more relevant.
- I think EvE biography (accessible to everyone) is a good starting point and may be customized to display more or less information depending on personal authorization.
- Also, it may be a good idea to let player share information on other characters so they can tell their "community" that X is a bad guy or Y helped them well. This could be done by a kind of "global network" which is accessible in the game from character, items, etc. and on which people can write notes and share them with their "faction" (like a personalized text display under generic informations or help).
- About character customization, it is important that each character can be unique and that it is possible to determine roughly their equipment at a glance for PvP (don't create an heavy armor looking like a mage dress please ).

And what do you mean about me being too formal ? It seemed to me I was already way less formal than many CMs on big IPs
Is this because I always end my replies by "Best Regards" ?
As far as I know (I checked with my brother who is a streamer for GW2 and so often meet their CM), you're not too formal on the forums.
Remember that forums are the first contact for new players. So, even if we begin to know Nyzaltar, it's not the case of a random anonymous reader.
Nyzaltar is certainly less formal in private or during IRL events.

Hello,
Nop, I'm not Nyzaltar.
That would be too obvious.
If you want evidence of it, check the Territorial control subjet where I gave my opinion on the subject.
Nyzaltar can do it directly to the devs.
Also, registration dates are clearly not the same.
And no, I'm not a developer irl. even if I like to program things (I'm a pentester).

Hi Random Darkness,
Welcome in the shadows of a blank, new universe .
You will find fellow gamers interested in roleplaying here
I can confirm !
Which role paying games are you talking about (if not secret) ?

Happy Halloween everyone .

Hi Astrophil,
Well, I can understand it. No problem if they just reply "confidential".
But it doesn't cost anything to ask and my questions remain quite general.

Hello NovaQark,
Quick question from a curious developer here : what are the technologies used in dual universe development (languages, frameworks, hosting) ?
I saw you were using Amazon Cloud, will you host the games servers there too ?
And, on a similar subject, where do you plan to locate the games servers (geographical position) ? Will they be spread over the glob or centralized in one datacenter ?

Hi all,
First, I want to say "nice job" to the writer.
Then, a few remarks.
heh, having a neutron star traveling at 1/3 of the speed of light isn't really inconspicious xD
Oh well, but who knows, mabye it, by chance, passed an ancient alien acceleration devide
Don't forget that we would see the neutron star with 150 year of late (if it is at 150 ly, light would take 150 years to reach us).
Thus, the star has 500 + 150 = 650 years for arriving, which only requires about 1/4 or 1/5 of the speed of light (which is, still, a decent speed for a star ).Now, if you try to compute the chance that this neutron star hit us... you just stop worrying about it .
Or... maybe someone or something directed it right on top of us...
All in all, we thought the small inconsistency about how fast the neutron star reach Earth would be unnoticed. Apparently we were wrong
Never underestimate fans. After all, they even know Dagoba's gravity (https://what-if.xkcd.com/3/).

Indeed, 2536 seems more logical .
Thanks for the answer.

Hello Dual Universe,
Quick question for Designers here.
The lore says that our arkship was built in 2036 :
?You are in the hibernacle 6JKP-Sohan of the arkship Novark, built in 2036 by the United Nations."By the, we may ask why humanity rushed to build massive, crucial and advanced ships so fast while the armaggedon was planed for 2538, which let plenty of time to prepare. But that's not the question here.
If the ship was built in 2036, we may consider that technology is quite similar to ours with maybe 15 or 16 years of new discoveries.
However, the arkship hull is also built in kyrium, an impressive, unknown, matter. Nanoformer and nanopack technologies are quite impressive too.
Thus, in 15/16 years we still got some good new technologies,.I've also hear somewhere about "warp gates" which seems out of range today.
So we may ask if the game will take place in a very futuristic technological age, or if we will mostly use nowadays technologies with a drop of innovation to make space travel possible ?
In other words, does Novaquarks follows Space Engineers rule of "plausible used in a few years" or will we see standard components like shields, laser weapons, interdiction fields and so on... ?
... or maybe, we may find new technologies during exploration... or "encounters" ?

Hi Silvligh and welcome,
I'm currently an avid player of many games such as League of Legends(No Hate) StarCraft II and Lots of other MMO's like Space Engineers and StarMade.
Those are actually quite good games, in my mind at least.
Well, LOL is maybe not as good as the others, but still, it is good enough to be enjoyable. Most problems come from the community and not the game itself.
Enjoy the tour.

Hello there,
Just a quick idea to follow Silvligh thoughts.
If it is possible to publish long texts (like the history of a planet or tutorials), having a minimum set of formatting would be nice.
Even if it would be hard and time consuming to implement images, WYSIWIG editor and so on, some simple functionalities would probably do the trick (in worst cases, players can still put a link to a more detailed article on the web) :
- Text color,
- Underline, bold, italic,
- Lists,
- Font size,
- Left / center / right align (justify may requires a bit more complex coding if not supported out of the box by libraries).

Voxel Tools: Pre-Alpha Game Design

Hello there,
I would tend to KISS principle : Keep It Simple, Stupid. Else, people will get lost and it will create faucet between players.
Also, the more complex building is, the more time it will consume.
Remember that, even if we all like to build cool stuff, Dual Universe is also PvP oriented.
I think that Space Engineers has the right compromise. If you have not seen it yet, I suggest taking a look at ships made in steam workshop which can be really sophisticated and beautiful, even if they are based on basic shapes (attention, some ships may also use mods).
