  1. Sadly, what is, and what is felt by those coming here for the first time may differ.

Also, you can decide English is universal all you want, this wont make a vanilla 17yo french guy understand it more. Thanks to our "outstanding" Education Nationale ... *cough cough*. In fact I believe the same applies in many country. This is the reality I understand and witnessed.

every 17 year old who uses the internet should be able to use google translate to at least tell the community that the following post is only directed at people speaking some specific language, because then the others know it doesn't contain content for a general discussion but merely some generic things, thus sparing them the effort to use google translate.

Some ppl will come, speaking what the h*** they want, will you be mad at them each time ?

i don't know why you keep saying that, no one was mad, there were just neutral reminders to use english. And no, what what darius wrote could in no way be seen as offensive or angry, he just reminded that person and then commented on his idea.

If you are calling me a drama queen for voicing this opinion, then, we have not the same definition of such term clearly  :)

yes, you are a drama queen if in your opinion a simple reminder + positive ontopic-discussion is hatred, thats exactly what a drama queen is :)

Just because some francophone's disregard other languages, doesn't make the sentence "please use english in an international forum" an insult or "hatred-comment"

  2.

This guy must not be the first, and won't be the last. If the existing small community is filled with hatred each time this happens, the game won't grow as fast as it could be.

don't play the drama queen, there is no hatred just because people point out that you should speak english in an international forum.

And while English might not be universal in the sense of most spoken language, it certainly is the universal language of science and the digital world, just look at the vast majority of coding languages and science papers.

Especially in small communities as dual universe its important if everyone can participate in discussions and read whats written (no one would care about subsections for specific languages if there are thousands of actice community members), so keep it in english.

  3. "A concerned prospective customer perhaps..."

That may describe who he or you are, but doesn't really qualify you to judge aesthetics. There are a lot of different ways to create ships, some might think simlpe geometric forms like spheres or cubes are the way to go, a borg maybe? Some people like symmetry and think asymmetric designs  are ugly, while others think exactly otherwise.

Just think about all those ships in scifi culture, some people like the andromeda, the enterprise, maybe the goa'uld pyramide ships, others like vessels like the lexx or the derelict from alien, there is a vast amount of possible shapes and there will be no one who finds each of those aesthetic, but at the same time there will be no design that no one likes.

Thus there is no person who should dare to judge designs (except for obvious things like dickbutts etc.) No matter how much of a concerned costumer you are.

  4.

I would be grateful of anyone's opinion on this topic.

if you had just used the search function then you could have read a lot of opinions and official statements about it, try it out :)

  5.

    1) 30km was something that was the lower limit for planets, normaly they go for 30-100km radius, and the "starter-planet" will most likely be one of the bigger sized ones. What are you basing this on? Would love to read it.

sry, dont remember exactly where they said it and got no time to look for it, but they said they aim for roughly that radius as general size of planets.

With your (baseless) assumption of 60% water-surface that makes ~32k km² landmass for a planet with an 80km radius.  My "baseless" "assumption" (you should never assume it just makes and ass of you and me) is a very ruff estimate based off of photos and videos as said in my first sentence of the OP.

its not an assessment or insult, its just a fact. The assumption that its 60% water is baseless and i wrote it so others don't think of it as fact.

Don't be one of the people who are offended if someone clarifies a statement. Especially if it doesn't demeans ur post and just corrects it.

  6. So i read the newest AMA answer and got kinda worried. (you can read it here it is #25).

This may be a problem if the starting planet only has a radius of 30KM (referenced here if you want to read more). So based on the photos we have seen so far (this is a very ruff estimate) i would say the planets are about 60% water (give or take). With this in mind I did some maths and came to the conclusion we will only have around 1800KM of land to build on. (around 11300km water included). The current member count on the forum alone (at this time) is almost 1500. There is not going to be anywhere close to enough land! I don't know about the rest of you but from my experience trying to mine underwater is a HUGE pain in the arse. So is trying to build in the middle of the ocean, especially if structural integrity is going to be a thing.

If we are going to have more than a few thousand people playing the game we are going to need MUCH more land!

With your (baseless) assumption of 60% water-surface that makes ~32k km² landmass for a planet with an 80km radius. thats close to switzerland, which is pretty big if you had to explore it with a few thousand ppl.

  7. It would be stupid of the devs to code something that will effectively reduce the amount of players online, so definitely no, especially because the game will be p2p, if people could just rip the offline mode and build whatever they want it'll lead to a severe cut in in their income.

  8. I don't really care what other peoples opinions are, its the developers that need to read this thread and get the message that there going to loose potentially millions of customers over a 10 year period with this garbage business model.

yes, millions of potential, salty teenagers who can't afford to pay, big deal :P

B2P? Not a viably option for a niche game, it simply wouldn't generate enough income.

F2P+Itemshop? This is a builder game, even a pure cosmetic cash shop would have a big influence on the game, so not really an option either.

  9. So after watching several game play videos of No Man Sky, I was VERY disappointed and angry at the developers.  They basically lied about half of the features and now I find out you can't build the ships as well........

as far as i know they never said you could build your own ships, I might not be completely up to date, because i lost interest after i joined this forum, but as far as i know NMS is exactly what they said it would be. Don't project your own wishes into a game and start being mad about it if it doesn't develop in this way ;)

  10. What if that ship gets destroyed while you're offline and your character dies? I wouldn't mind that, but people will complain about it, you know that.

Well, what happens with a person if the ship he's on is destroyed? He's dead obviously. So login back to respawn is the obvious answer.

  11. you guys are anti mod right

No, but there is no way that a mmorpg can have mods. The reasons were said already, you just can't have content in a mmorpg that isn't supported by all clients, and you can't force players to download every stupid mod someone else created.

And no, placeholderblocks etc. don't solve the issue because interactions are important and mods don't necessarily just change textures.

  12. If people are intelligent then groups will form where most people increase various, different crafting skills, thus being able to create spaceships much faster.

Afterwards they'd be the first to reach the neighboring planet, having a vast amount of resources for themselves.

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

Then they will hurry to create an stationary interplanetary weapon and turn the original planet into hell, forever denying the other players the chance to leave it.

  13. not really, since you arent alive your muscles cant be deconstructed by your organism and you dont suffer muscle atrophy when in stasis

the "common" concept of cryosleep in science fiction is an extreme decrease in body functions, not a compete freezing. That means we can expect that over a time of several thousand of years the body will age for at least a few months, thus causing the muscles to atrophy.
