I'm going to use two accounts or more to build up a quick production factory somewhere underground not too far, but not too close to the (a) central starting area.

I'm then going to start a space-taxi service, flying newcomers to nearest planets out of good will, and older toons for a price.

Then when all of my research and autonomous excavation finishes doing all that, I'll retread back into the void of space and start a tight-knit colony of Free Miners, surviving solely in space.

(sorry for my english it is not perfect)
Natural anomalies that can transport you on far distance, on another side of galaxy or even in other galaxies.
There can be some wormholes features:
    1. To detect them you should have some high-tech sensors, or just find it randomly (almost impossible)
    2. Wormholes can drift in space changing their position periodically.
    3. Only small ships can use wormholes. Large ships can use it only with large energy spending.
    4. There is unknown what you waiting on the other side, or to figure that you have to send probe that can give you some data.
Wormholes can be used to find new places for colonization, or place to hide your supersecret military base

Khaymann reacted to nietoperek in Graphical programming - easier scripting for newbies?
    Hi,

I know that DU is not planned to be easy, and scripting will be irremovable part of game mechanic. It is something cool... but write hundreds lines of code can be bothersome task for non-programmer players; beside this, scripting is quite boring in form (you know - lines and lines of numbers and letters, nothing fancy).

So. Maybe we can made scripting mini-game itself and give it some interesting graphical interface, easier to understand by "normals"? Of course "text hard mode" will be always available as second option  and even "graphical programming" can have less options than text one, like "beginner" and "veteran" versions

I not talk about simplification of programming language itself, but more about some kind of GUI/IDE for that - with auto-complete and - most important - easy graphical interface like "blocks" of code for building apps. I know at last two projects, which use this kind of editors ; LEGO Mindstorm and Scratch. Here are pictures of programs build in them:

    [sCRATCH]

    [LEGO]

EDT: Here is wiki about this style of programming. And you can even use some like this for LUA, too!

In my opinion it will decrease "starting cost" for lot of people, and it can be even inspiration for someone for start learn "true" programming

    Toughs?

Khaymann reacted to ClockworkRose in Gas, Gas Giants, and Gas Harvesting.
One cool addition to the game would be Gas Giants, Nebula, and other forms of gas in space (and maybe on planet surfaces). These could be large and (gameplay wise) slowly replenishing resources. You could harvest it by flying a ship through a nebula with a collector attachment, or dragging a collector on the surface of a gas giant. Maybe even construct a station in a nebula that is constantly collecting a small quantity.

You could harvest everything and get the same nebulous "Gas". or if you wanted to make things more interesting, You could have different gasses, with different sources and different uses. Methane, Hydrogen, etc.

Then you could go as complicated as you want for its uses. The logical first step is reactant for a chemical rocket. Probably some sort of early game fuel, preceding reactionless rocket tech. Following that, hydrogen gas could be processed into a a reactant in a fusion reactor. All sorts of things are possible for propulsion. Maybe you need to restock your maneuvering jets every once in a while.

You could also need the gases for processing and creating elements in factories. Maybe they are needed as a catalyst, or you need a huge refinery with dozens of steps and feedback to create rare compounds.

One major problem I see is implementation. I don't know what their engine looks like, but I didn't see much in the way of gasses or nebulae in any of the videos that have been shown. It might take some magic to make it work in their voxel system, and it might not even work at all.

    Thoughts?
