  1. Yeah, this is just a generic list; it's a pretty good example of the general classes of planets that could appear in the game. Of course, each individual planet will likely be procedurally generated, with unique biomes and weather (plant morphology, color scheme etc...), but they will inevitably fall into one of the categories shown above. There could also be some truely unique planets that don't fit into the scheme, and these could be set up like super-resource locations where, if you control one, you're basically top dog. That's more of a late game strategy, but its where most of the action will be once the community has matured to the point of large-scale conflicts, and politics and all that fun stuff.
  2. LOL! On a more serious note though, I checked out the Facebook page for Dual Universe and it's pretty cool, but there doesn't appear to be a DU Group. The advantage of groups on Facebook is that all of the members get notified every time there's an update. I can set one up if it's OK with the devs...
  3. This appears to be a duplicate thread The original is here: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/932-agriculturewoodcutting-etc-in-dual-universe/ (moderators please combine these...)
  4. Yeah the offset for the massive amount of power provided by antimatter is that it's very expensive, and difficult to handle. A large, well-shielded containment vessel will be required that needs advanced materials like superconducters and cryogenic units as well as a multi-redundant power source. Everything has it's price. As far as the antimatter unit getting damaged in battle, well that would be a risk, but it didn't seem to affect the crew of the Enterprise...
  5. Interplanetary and interstellar ships require vast amounts of energy for propulsion. There was a previous thread looking at nuclear power but antimatter is by far the most concentrated form of energy in the Universe. A couple grams of the stuff will put the Space Shuttle in orbit, and several Kilograms can accelerate it to a significant percentage of the speed of light. It would require a high level of technology to build a magnetic containment unit (or E/M bottle) using superconducters and to cryogenically cool the anti-hydrogen atoms to maintain a liquid state. Also the unit would need to be extremely reliable since any power interruption would result in catastrophic failure of the unit. The interesting thing is that you can create antimatter with a particle accelerator, but it's actually more efficient to collect it from the radiation belts surrounding planets. A large electromagnetic trap could be set up in planetary orbit and used as a "gas station" to refuel starships in space.
  6. Thrasrion mentioned symmetry - that's something I'm interested in finding out about myself. Also, there will presumably be different sizes for ships, buildings and space stations. Will there be an option to select the larger voxel size for certain constructs (1m vs 0.25m)?
  7. From the demos I've seen, the designer tool works more like the one in Landmark than Space Engineers. I'm just wondering if it would be better to get experience in Landmark...
  8. Yeah, or we could make wooden steampunk spaceships!
  9. This is a duplicate thread the original is here: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/945-body-implantsaugments/ (maybe the moderators can combine the two...)
  10. Will there be a short list of planet types like this?
  11. Interstellar starships require a vast amount of power for engines, weapons, shields and life support. The electrical requirements to run computer/navigation systems is miniscule in comparison. Although power management will certainly be a game mechanic I doubt you would get to the point where your batteries run out and the lights turn off - unless your ship is pretty much destroyed, and then you have bigger problems to deal with.
  12. I never really played KSP right - I had a whole fleet of interplanetary starships. The forum community is really good there as well, it almost makes up for the fact that it is a single-player game.
  13. Welcome, welcome... I'm a wait and see kind of guy, I think it's counter productive to make too many assumptions about the battle mechanics. I think most people are interested in the game because of building and exploration anyway.

  15. Arrrr yer screamin in great big pink letterrrrs matey!! Arrrr!
  16. I agree with every one of your points Kiklix, but for the moment BlueDrake42 and the TheXPgamers are the only ones on YouTube with any sort of following that even have videos about this game. Also he did have one point; the devs need to get feedback from the community, and provide updates and transparency through the development process (even though he was kind of a dick about it). In any case I do believe NovaQuark is totally on the right path. From what I've seen and heard so far they have an engine that can do what the gamers want, and are taking steps to grow the community and set up a process for getting feedback from the users. Like Eruend said "Loving the approach" so far...
  17. I probably come from a different background than most people interested in this game. My stuff was designed in KSP, and most members here I believe have experience with Space Engineers. I downloaded a shareware app that exported 3D files into a standard format for Sketchfab. It would certainly be nice to have a tool like that for Dual Universe. Here's the link: https://sketchfab.com/jolly_roger I haven't done a lot with livestreams so far, and my channel only has KSP stuff on it right now but I plan on branching out soon.
  18. I was updating my profile and noticed under my user name it said "Member Since Yesterday". I don't know why but that just made me laugh, I guess it's because I've been around for a while with my own YouTube channel, Sketchfab portfolio and extensive Imgur album. I have to say though in the short time I've been here I've been made to feel extremely welcome by this community. I wanted to say thanks to everybody who helped me to set up my account and get orientated on this forum. I'm not usually an early adopter of games and software, but based on the information I have so far, Dual Universe will be a great project to get in on the ground floor. Basically, my understanding is that for the first few months after release the community will be building the groundwork technology and craft designs that players who join the game later on can use to flesh out the game world. Now that's something I can sink my teeth into! In short I'd like to send a shout out to all the other newbies in this community and any others that join in the future - you're in the right spot. It's a great place to be and if you have any questions don't hesitate to make yourself heard. I'm looking forward to working with all you... Jett
  19. From one noob to another WELCOME! I agree that there needs to be some healthy skepticism regarding any project that offers soo much that players want, and I think the general consensus is cautious optimism. There was actually a series of videos done by BlueDrake42 questioning the promotional material for the game but in the end he had to kind of eat his own words. Here's his final rant on where he's at so far... (he eats quite a bit of crow in this) [Video removed]
  20. It's actually an idea I got from watching Scott Manley videos of Eve Online. His premise is that piracy keeps the economy going by enhancing the flow of resources. When wealth and assets accumulate in the hands of a few individuals or organizations, the pirates come in and "liberate" those assets so that they can be used by the broader community. So basically it's an essential service - and it adds conflict, motivation and FUN to the game.
  21. Excuse my insolence, but I was in a battle of the bands competition and my group "Majestic Interlude" kicked their butts. Yeah it was a long time ago and since then the place was burned to the ground, but life goes on for us non-believers! LOL
  22. I like to think of myself as a Privateer in a coalition of like-minded individuals. Our role (as I see it) is to keep balance in the Universe acting as independent operators smuggling goods, and providing services when needed, and "distributing" the wealth when it becomes too concentrated in for form of piracy (like futuristic Robin Hoods). The beauty of this idea is that within this cooperative people can play the game any way they want, and even change roles without abandoning the core principals of the group. Tell me if I'm wrong...
  23. There was a band called Guttertrash (or maybe it was GutterThrash) from my high school... I wonder if you know those guys.
