How do I replace a destroyed core?

Trying to fix my ship with an S dynamic core.

 

I have the dynamic core in my inventory. I have the deploy element tool selected. 

 

Tooltip says "Cannot be restored anymore Trash or Alt-LMB to replace."

 

I press Alt-LMB and it says "The core unit cannot be removed in Build Mode."

 

Thoughts?

Try the repair tool with the S core in your inventory. I heard the repair tool has a secondary function.

There is an option to replace it in the right-click menu, not in build mode.

ALT-LMB with element in inventory when in repair mode will replace the element
