The solar project

Recommended Posts

Hi,

as I am listening to the DU soundtrack I am having this vision for the game where players actualy manage to pull off the global resource gathering ability (I mean actual real people, not our avatars) and we build these large structures that take several thousand of people working together in some manner. Is there going to be some lore that keeps us on our tracks? From lore perspective it sounds something like "ok, we're an epic civilization that just landed on this piece of rock. So what's up? ... Yeah yeah, rebuild the civilization that's a piece of cake. Should we try to build some sort of giant sun engine?"

Is the narration-based gameplay direction something that is in the mix of ideas?

Thank you

A giant sun engine would be an interesting project. Like a dyson sphere? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyson_sphere#:~:text=A Dyson sphere is a,percentage of its power output.

I'm not sure about your other questions. A Dyson Sphere truly would take a huge amount of players to pull off what a sight it would be though.

would be an useless project since a construct can't be seen from very far distance which are like only 1 or 2 km and the ammounth of cores needed would be ridiculous. But what would be cool would be lore based on player civilizations example

player organizations.

not a dyson sphere that's just ridiculous, but some sort of giant construct that cou can't actualy get too close to, it would be lore driven, not an actual construct you can control.

Now that I think about it it probably doesn't play well with the ideology of "everything is a construct." It'd still be nice to have some sort of global lore progression hmm.

We departed to Alioth to rebuild our lost civilization in whatever way we decide. That's it, the rest of the story, we have to pen them on our own!

This is a Sandbox player-driven emergent MMO, not a Themepark where we have to follow a linear storyline!

"Narration-based gameplay" is a f*cking Themepark man! This is a Sandbox MMO!

What you want is a sheet music where the progression of the song is already written for you to sight-read and play. What I want is creativity -- the ability for me to apply my own input and influence my own progression based on my choices. The philosophy behind DU is existentialism, not some bull sh*t prophecy.

you are looking for a linear progression system.

How is that gonna work? If the development/production for it is achieved through central-planning (a command economy), it is communism. You know that I do not agree with that system. Even the Chinese and Vietnamese economy in real-life don't work like that.

If we are to have a free-market economy, it will be driven by the private sector. There has to be a demand for the proposed project in the first place. There has to be a feasibility study conducted and plans crafted that covers the whole life cycle of the project (there is a long-term cost associated with the project), and they have to be feasible enough to convince investors/lenders to finance it (there is an ROI per period). Once the proposed project is allowed to proceed, design, construction, maintenance, operation, are contracted to third-party org/s and they have to pay their employees as well.

You wanna skip these development stages? Sure, you can do that, but it will be communism. Call this process "bureaucratic" but it is there to maintain an equitable system for all the contributors of the project.

This is the f*cking problem with this mentality. Building an economy through communism is easy if the retarded people will comply; building a free-market economy has a process (and accounting if finance is involved) to keep it equitable for everyone. You think they will just f*cking farm and construct and that's it?

You know how much money have I already spent on DACs for this game? You think I will just join an org and contribute and that's it?
