  1. (I thought since the founder of NovaQuark and Dual Universe specializes in robotics and AI, I thought it would be fitting to put this topic here....) I think they will be a useful way to assist people in doing jobs. I don't think they will be a cause of unemployment - rather, the jobs that humans will do will shift from stuff like manual labor to robot maintenance or whatever.
  2. You actually discover a captive alien/extraterrestrial in a containment chamber in a laboratory there! What do you do and what happens next?
  3. Okay, it's time for yet another stupid question by yours truly! Don't mind me though, I like reading discussions about games like this though. Cures my boredom. I've heard about the term "gameplay loop" in this forum (and also in another gaming forum) for a few times now. Many people agree that Dual Universe needs a lot of these things to be more enjoyable. My question to you is, what makes a good gameplay loop? What are some good gameplay loops to add to Dual Universe?
  4. Okay, it's time for a topic a bit more crazy than usual from me. (I enjoy talking about this game because just like all of you, I want to see it succeed.) This topic is taken from the Steam boards of a game similar to Dual Universe. Do you think this game could eventually "kill" Star Citizen? How would it be able to do so? Star Citizen is still unfinished, but it still has more of a playerbase than DU. I think if the devs add a little bit more stuff (such as introducing new "gameplay loops" that everyone's been talking about here), it could rival and potentially beat Star Citizen in terms of popularity and ratings.
  5. How would you feel if the development of Dual Universe was mainly focused on making a "Second Life in space" kinda deal? -In addition to building static structures, users can customize their avatars in greater detail (even if it doesn't make sense in lore, like being helmetless in space.) -Users can submit their designs not only for avatar customization but decorative "Elements" as well. (more user-created content than just buildings) -Overall, more of a focus on socialization (hence..."civilization" building). PVP, mining, industry, and stuff like that would not necessarily be omitted, though. -Things like local text chat, emotes, and voice chat would be implemented. -I'd assume it's easier to develop and implement ideas in the game because we already have Second Life itself, anyway. Yeah, I'll probably be lit up for even suggesting this but I'm all outta ideas to discuss....
  6. I think you meant to respond to @PleiJades. But I agree with your post.
  7. I'd be happy if "civilization building" just meant making a community flourish in the game with a reason to play with and against each other. As for what that entails, I dunno exactly, but others have posted many essays on these matters.
  8. That's a good analysis, but I'm sure the engineers accounted for many of the possible problems the telescope may encounter. Still, perhaps it's best to be guarded against high expectations!
  9. https://jwst.nasa.gov/content/webbLaunch/index.html It;'s scheduled to launch on the 22nd of December! One thing I'm looking forward to is its ability to observe extrasolar planets in more detail.
  10. Just wondering. I don't mean just within the game itself, but in other surrounding community places such as the forums or Discord. I have not, but don't worry about me. I've been a solo player who hasn't joined an org so I'm mostly at fault here. (I will join an org if the game gets more popular and I will need a reason to have an alliance.)
  11. I like: the space and sci-fi/futuristic aspects of the game open-space sandbox potential of the game building stuff probably even more reasons why I like Dual Universe but those are the main three for me.
  12. Apologies if this is a stupid question, but this is one of those games where it seems more fun to talk about ideas than actually play. We've talked about the various games that influenced DU, such as EVE, as well as games that it in turn influenced, such as Starbase. But what about movies, books, and other forms of sci-fi? JC frequently discussed the influence of "Ready Player One" on the game. Maybe DU could borrow more stuff from the Gene Roddenberry works for example (Star Trek, Earth: Final Conflict, Andromeda, and so on.) As for what, I don't know exactly (although I think people have already considered adding stuff from these IPs.)
  13. ...what would their role be? They would probably be hostile NPCs but I'd like to see them as allies you can befriend!
  14. Yes, it's probably been mentioned many times before but I'd like to see avatar combat in the game soon. Could make for some thrilling game experiences. I know there's other games that fulfill that function but I think it would be cool in an open-space game like Dual Universe.
  15. I agree it does look awesome. But a lot of people are saying that the game population is dying off. I dunno. I'll think I'll come back to the game soon to check on the general chat and see how busy it is.
  16. Not really, just taking a hiatus to play other games. This game will take a backseat for a while.
  17. I'll just keep it brief: this may not be the best game with highest population of people. But I still enjoyed my time playing this game. I had a blast building stuff and exploring the planets and space. And in some ways, it opened up my curiosity for other types of games. I'm thankful to have played this game. Thank you, Dual Universe.
  18. Thanks for the above input from everyone. I upgraded by RAM from 16 to 32 GB and my system now has an internal NVMe SSD!
  19. Hmm...guess I gotta pull out the old wallet if I wanna continue playing this game....(so I should get more RAM and find an internal SSD....) Ah, at least I'm not the only one. Sounds like something I should do, too.
  20. I think I've posted about this several times before, but piloting in Dual Universe is pretty unbearable - pretty much impossible - for me now because my screen freezes for a long time making me lose control of my ship, which in turn makes me crash often. I suspected it has to do with the lag but people have said it has improved somewhat. I dunno. I was also thinking it has to do with my graphics settings so I tried lowering the threads from the default (which is six I think) to two. I still had problems with flight. So perhaps it isn't a graphics thing either (unless my GPU and system is really poor - I have a GTX 1660 coupled with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600. I have 16 GB RAM in my system and I have the game installed on an external SSD. ) I'm just wondering if screen freezing is a common thing for you.
  21. I still check on my base on Alioth and ship from time to time, but I don't play for long periods of time anymore. My reasons? I have other priorities (such as other games - I know, lame excuse) but I guess there's also a lack of incentive to explore around. I've been all over Alioth, Madis, Thades, and Jago, and explored space extensively. I've used a surrogate to explore the Free Port on Teoma and the Utopia Space Station. But I think I've seen a lot of stuff in Dual Universe now such that any further discoveries don't feel...."new". So yeah. Not worth it to log in except to check on my stuff briefly.
  22. Ah, thanks for info. Guess I'll get more RAM and that SSD then.
  23. I used to be able to play this game with very few technical problems. But now when I fly around I get lag which can be lethal in some cases. I looked at the system requirements and the recommended RAM is now 16 GB and GTX 1080 (8 GB). I do have the 16 GB requirements fulfilled but my GPU seems a bit lacking (I have a 1660 which is only 6 GB.) Do you think I should upgrade my computer for a better experience?
