  1. Player driven prison is a good thing but there should be a limit because imprisoning somebody for days is nonsense in a video game

To bring "the other game" approach to this, the solution is actually very simple: player karma - + for good actions and - for bad actions.

Then you create two playgrounds, one for law obeying citizens (in this case the safe zones the devs have in mind), another for lawless players. The Law obeying area will have NPC security that will shot outlaws on-site.

Problem with prisons is you need to first find and catch that given player, then have a whole facility to lock him up, this requires the devs to place more mechanics into the game then necessary for a "sandbox" game.

  2. I can say this publicly however, we will be building a super max prison - for those "good for nothing" pirates.

If you want somewhere safe to house your felons - feel free to contract them over to ACS Corrections - for only a small fee per day. We will take the scum off your hands and keep them locked away, and away from the rest of civilized society.  :)

Any system designed by the devs that limits a player's ability and the right to play, will not go well in general. When a player pays X dollars a monthly sub, everyone will expect access to the whole game 24x7, aside from normal maint downtimes.

We need to have other forms of punishment that doesn't prevent one from playing the game.

  3.

One solution with the choke point is that a gate is needed to enter, but the exit point is partially random. The other option is that the only way to avoid choke points is to use the slower warp drive. for FTL. So the player choice is use the gate for fast travel but risk being jumped by a gatecamp, or a slower warp drive but more control over yoru encounters.

One of the biggest problems in EVE, is gate camping/ganking, just because the gate location is fixed, and everyone must travel thru those holes in order to move to other systems.

One other possible approach is we can make gates a "low cost construct-able" device that opens up a travel portal that deteriorates after a set time frame, say 6-12 hours, instead of a "fixed free for all" portal system.

What this offers is it will allow people to jump between systems after they construct it (builder determines entry/exit location), yet removes the "gate camp" issue since the gate will never last for a long time.

  4. The devs have already stricken down the idea of a jump drive, replacing it with the stargate. And I do get the feeling that stargates will indeed take a very long time to get, months after game launch perhaps.

Oh boy, gate camping here we come ...  <_<

  5. ... plus, Friendly Fire. IF you fire that, you'll probably catch your guys in it as well, there's no magic that protects you from friendly EMPs and it would throw tactics off the window if it was to be implemented in such a way.

    ...

.And I get it, it's a game, it's not meant for rrealism, but DUAL aims for some realism. They even implemented their server tech as to mimick relativistic effects, which makes the game look even more immersive than it actually could have been if they didn't.

And this is the reality of war. There is NO magic bullet that can only hurts the enemy and not cause friendly fire. IMHO we shouldn't implement that kind of magic bullet in game either. To allow that is like players asking for massive nukes that can blow up a death star from the opposed side and their own team never have to worry about any damage when the bomb blows.

  6.

As well as what forms of E-War may be around. . .

    E-War Candidates:  *snipped*

These are just a few of my rough ideas on E-War for the game. I am sure you all have your own interpretations of E-War so feel free to express them here - add on to my ideas - or even to ask a question.

Meanwhile just have fun debating. . .

    My kind of e-war? K.I.S.S.

If you don't, you run into the stupid EVE PvP vs PvE imbalance issues, where a sub 500K isk PvP setup can render a 2T isk PvE setup useless. The more e-war conditions you have, the more imbalance issues you bring to the table.

The KISS method: one electronic burst (EMP) splashes an AoE effect, causing device(s) shutdown within effected sections/area based on its strength, forcing the crew(s) having to manually reboot/bring on line those devices. This kind of game play demands a quick and selective reaction time (I may not need to bring everything back on line) vs a set 3 min XYZ is useless approach: responsive play vs predictable play.

  7. Clearly this won't appeal to 99% of the community, however...

I'd like to be able to play a character that only lives once, and in a way that will prevent me from ever being able to play that character again, or someone else pretending they are me if i delete said character.

In a very general sense, I think it is only acceptable if the implementation is an option that only deletes the char after a set time frame upon death, but not a good idea at all if the devs locks anything else and prevents others from using it, such as names. It will be pretty odd and players will complain if we can only have one "John Doe" in game.

But I would take caution, since it just may introduce new scams because char become "dead" and nonpunishable by in game means.

  8. In space it is would have a limited AOE range to it no matter what - as that zone of high heat would be comparable to the surface of the sun for a brief period of time, smaller ships caught in it for instance fighters or unarmored targets would quite essentially, evaporate. Only leaving the stronger armored ships standing, even then the closer they are to the epicenter of the explosion the more surface damage they would have.

As I see it in space a nuke would have the best effect as to wipe out turrets or other critical equipment on the surface of several ships at once - maybe not destroying them outright, especially if they are armored enough, but as to wipe out radar, communication equipment, turrets, and other assorted mission critical tech.

Too OP and can easily be used as an "one man death squad" tactic during massive combat which takes out the fun of PvP.

  9. This is why I'm actually paranoid and don't trust anyone. See, I'm wise like that.

    It is a catch-22.

We want the devs to give us a sandbox, but a true sandbox means total freedom in term of game play. If that is to be true, then all sandbox games should play just the same aside from the GFX differences, right?

I can be totally on an one-man island here, but IMHO what makes one game different/better then another is how much the devs put into their game play environment that makes their game stand out from the other games, or else all WoW-clones will all play exactly the same, and all EVE-clones (the direction a lot of you seems to want this game to take) will also be just that, EVE (clone).

My stance on this issue is personally I rather not see the devs do exactly what EVE did so I know I will be offered a different game, or else I might just as well go back to playing EVE.

    Hence the catch-22.

Make this game THE standard, and not keep EVE the standard and make this game just a clone.

  10. 1.) What's the point of a Sandbox then? You want EVE reinforcement timers on everything that enters PvP, but not the other parts of EVE?

    ...

2.) And yes, organisations should WARN their new members of scammers.

    1. Hmm, if you trace back to all of my posts, I do not believe I have for once support this project as EVE 2.0. Personally, I rather NOT have any part of the Scammer/PvP/trickery game play in this game. Sandbox yes, lawlessness, no.

    2. And some of the biggest/longest running scams in EVE happened within orgs.

  11. They are a digital representation of our individuality we use to interact with the world in which we are provided. Please don't have a generic male and generic female avatar that are soulless and devoid of creativity. Let us explore the options a bit:

For me char creation usually is an intro-indicator to a new player to see how much time and effort the devs put into developing the game. However useless it may be for the player, especially in a FPV game, it does help enhance overall game play. The game just doesn't jive well when we all look like twins.

  12. Let me know what you think.

    All for it.

As long as an item has nothing to do with improving in-game item stats or time-based stat boosters or any sort of crafting/upgrade material, I am open to any "audio/visual" improvement items. IMHO any stat "boosters" should be only crafted or looted via in game mechanics, and not obtainable via the cash shop. The recently release Blade and Soul NA/EU has became a "P2W" and didn't kept its F2P scheme since the NCS encourages players to spend tons of cash for in-game crafting/upgrade material, leaving all the F2P player eating dust in term of game loot.

Visual items alone leaves open tons of possibilities such as tile/color patterns, outfit pieces, just to name a few.

As for the P2P players, the devs can just give us the option to pick which item from the cash shop list on a monthly basis.

  13. Remember though, that you will only have to design the building once, and that is the only part that takes active playing time.  After that rebuilding a destroyed construct can be automated if you have a construct snapshot or blueprint.

"However, rebuilding after destruction is costly, as neither the materials nor the time required by the auto-rebuilder can be avoided. It would be better to lose a bit of time and money, rather than losing your magnificent neo-renaissance imperial castle on top of the mountain."

I do not believe anyone here has issues with spending the cost or time to build things, the topic at hand is more about the time required to destroy that item. Given all the other stats being balanced, skills, etc, we are seeking a balance of construction vs destruction when the creation skill and destruction skill is on the same level. If that balance is not there, the builders side of the game will be more likely to leave because it isn't worth their effort to waste their time. This game will not be much of a game, especially when the devs keeps using "Minecraft" in their promotions and all you have is trigger-happy PvP players.

EG: If it takes a player 40 hours to build a building that is rated at 100 armor, it should take just as long for an attacker with 100 armor destruction power to take that building down, not 5 mins, 1 hour, or 5 hours.

  14. The hypocrisy on this post made me cringe.

And I would expect you to be trolling for a long time, you seem a veteran in the trade good sir.

Back to the original statement which you quoted, but clearly failed to understand ... "This, after all, is a GAME, not a job. Game = entertainment = fun = enjoyment."

I am switching back to giving my input on the forum discussions when necessary.

Peace brother, you can have the last word.

  15. On every thread you go you disagree with anything on the topic and keep repeating yourself. Stating you are trolling at this point is more of a collctive fact on your part. You are simply here to make people angry (and many oh many are angry with you).

Your name is also a dead giveaway. You are like a comicbook villain. Mr. Sinister, Hugo Strange, Donald Trump. You? AttackAt.

LMAO, I have been using this nick name since the 90s, please, dont make any ass-u-me-ptions just because someone do not see eye to eye with your PoV. BTW, it is AttacKat, not AttackAt.

This sub-forum, after all, is the IDEA BOX, where players come here to share ideas. There is nothing in this forum states ALL ideas/input must agree with the original idea. My disagreements may not be something you wish to see, but it does high light issues that can become problems in a game if the devs do nothing about it. The mare fact the OP exist, it is asking for people to poke at it and look for possible loopholes so we can all help make the idea better, however the input may sound.

Sorry buddy, if you cannot accept the fact that people WILL disagree with you, be it once or ALL the time, maybe posting on forums isn't for you. If you have any more personal matters to discuss about me, take it off line with me personally, and please keep the forum clear of unnecessary drama.

  16. You are talking of a sandbox MMO with EMERGENT GAMEPLAY. If you don't like EMERGENT GAMEPLAY which includes people nuking your city, then don't play it. Or even better, go play Landmark and enjoy no PvP and pretty much NOTHING at all due to that.

On a side note, please ignore AttacKat, he's an obvious troll. He's argueing against any suggestion while clearly stomping on the game's core principle of a sandbox.

EMERGENT = in the process of coming into being or becoming prominent. A pretty open statement with no clearly defined limits/goals/direction, IMHO.

As for me being a troll, again, that is your opinion and you are entitle to it, as much as I am entitle to mine in this forum and post my PoV just you have the rights on yours.

BTW, calling me a troll is a personal attack, which is something this forum does now allow. So please retrain from personal attacks when you cannot agree with other people's PoVs or statements.

  17. It's not a source of revenue in any way, because like Klatu said, that's like saying earning PLEX is a source of revenue for people playing Eve Online. It's not like you can spend it outside of the game.

Yes, I did read the OP, and as I have already said, I dis-approve the suggestion, but my word doesn't mean anything, it is just to bring out another PoV different then yours.

If you do not believe it is a source of revenue just because it is an in-game money/time, then why do all these RMT exist in MMOs?

We disagree because we have different PoV on the same subject matter, it is as simple as that.

  18.

Compared to what has been discussed in this thread, this would be carebear heaven, but even now alot of players are afraid to leave hisec for some reason. Anything that is way more hardcore is death sentence for subscriber count. And for good reason, people do not consider looking over the shoulder every second a good fun.

From what I seen, DU devs are aware of the issue. They mentioned players returning after months of absence, and their stuff being there.

Whatever system will be put in place will likely have inbuilt security for player built stuff, all valuables can probably be stored somewhere at no risk, structures will have big(several days) response time, additional systems will be in place to protect new players(ESPECIALLY new players) and small groups  from large group bullying.

Basically ^^ this ^^. No player is going to stay and play a game, if what took them hours/days/weeks can be gone in minutes. This, after all, is a GAME, not a job. Game = entertainment = fun = enjoyment.

  19. That's not how Reddit gold works either, nothing I suggested has anything to do with that. You just put in your own description ignoring everything I suggested, that's a strawman argument.

I never suggested "package opening" or anything like that.

What I suggested was a way to reward people for their contributions to the forum in a more meaningful way than "liking" a post.

Nobody is going to be rewarded if nobody puts in the money in the first place to buy those rewards. Clearly most people aren't going to be spending money to reward people for making good suggestions or good contributions to the forum.

It's the same concept as if I just gave someone a gift subscription to the game because I liked their post. I could even setup a "ChangeTip" type system that rewards people with Bitcoin if I chose to send it to them for a good post. It already exists on Github, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

You see it as a strawman arguement because you are only seeing from your PoV since you think it is a good idea and I see it from my PoV.

If you like a person's post and thinks he should be rewarded financially, send him an forum email and PayPal him. Let's NOT make the forum a source of revenue for players, like what YouTube/Stream sites has become.
