  1. I would love to have a comprehensive mechanism around food, reaching from planting and watering manually (mincraftstyle) and cooking it yourself to giant automated factorys. Livestock could also be a possibility. After all food is an essential part of human society.

    This could be an interesting system... but the cryosleep shouldn't mean that you are "punished" by not playing... that could just make the players (other than the most fanatic) dislike the game since it basicly forces them to play as much as possible.

     

    I doesn't mean the cryosleep as punishment its simply a way to eliminate the need of food.

  2. I assume the game will use realtime instead of fast-forward daycycle, so it would be realistic if you need your 3 meals a day, what would result in one meal per game session for the average player.

     

    I think it could work so:

    You will need food but only once all 8 hours, depending on your activities this could be more or less. An example: if you mine the whole time, then you need food more frequently approximately all 3 - 4 hours, because its exhausting, but if you're offline (sleeping) this changes to a 12 hour cycle, should you not be online if food needed, it will automatically consume food from your inventory. Should you be longer offline, for a week or even a month, there could be the possibility to reenter the cryostasis.

     

    With this system i see two ways for players,

    first, the lazy one, you stack simple rations in your inventory wich will automatically consumed as you go.

    Second, the more realistic, you cook or buy yourself a real meal and you consume it manually. If you using this method i would give little bonuses like +10hp for the next hour, nothing really drastic, but a small reward for your effort.

  3. I've seen a lot of discussion around clothing and character customization, but nothing really about armor. The only thing what i've seen was like: Community: "will there be armor?" NQ: "yes it will, but not now"

    I was disappointed, because we have her a lot of great discussions about different things reaching from core-mechanics to only cosmetic propertys of stuff and with the planned mechanics of boarding ships and even possibilities of ground combat is bodyarmor a essential gamplay feature that deserves our attention.

    So then will i share my ideas about this topic with you.

     

    I would like to see 4 main categorys of armor,

    light, medium, heavy and super-heavy.

    The first three categorys should be split in to two subcategorys,

    armor worn above clothing, for environment where no lifesupport systems are needed and

    armored spacesuits, for all the places they kill you just because you're there.

     

    Now to the categorys:

    Light Armor:

    Fast movement speed, high agility, less protection

    Medium Armor:

    Average movement speed, average agility, good protection

    Heavy Armor:

    Slow movement, low agility, smaller FOV, better protection

    Super-Heavy Armor:

    20mm Titanium-Steel-Alloy armor plates mounted to a heavy-duty exo-skeleton. (yes inspiration came from power armors)

    The armor can be entered with or without a standard spacesuit.

    Slow movement, as good as none agility, even smaller FOV, best protection, integrated shield generator, mountpoints for weapons (example: fix mounted gun on forearm), can handle heavy weapons, maximum runtime before recharge: 15 minutes

     

    Armors are upgradeable.

    Exampleupgrades: Aim stabilisers, thermal sight, jetpack, target marking AI

  4. Creating own clothing and sell it sounds great to me,

    if it will be implemented, it would be great to see an external editor that gives you the freedom of bethesda games clothing modding.

    Of course there should be an in game editor too, but more or less just for customization.

    And if you have created your clothing, then should it be possible to make it unchangeable, it would be really annoying should the crew of your military ship looks like a bad LSD trip if they wearing your self-made uniform, just because they want to be "individual". :D

  5. The quickest and stupidest way to destroy a jumpgate... before any operators could discharge it... is to use it to open a jump point... and then using your jump engine capable ship to open another jump point inside the Jump gate.  Boom!  No more gate.  No more station.  No more you and your extremely valuable jump engine capable ship. 

     

    And probably no more Planet if its close enough.

     

    I like the B5 mechanics a lot and the "only the generating ship can use the gate" makes sense.

    In addition to that i would bring in the possibility of "mobile jumpgates" because in a fleet will still be ships that are not large enough for a own jumpengine, but big enough as that they could land on an carrier.

     

    Of course these mobile jumpgates would be even more expensive than normal stationary ones. They will be well protected by armor, shields and maybe point-defense, but they will be pretty slow too and if a jump-point is established they will be stationary, till its closed again. And now offensive capabilities due to the large consumption of energy by the jump-point generator.

  6. It would definitly be fascinating, it would offer new careers like farmer and hunter, additional there are the possibilitys for hardcore roleplayer, imagine somone who is happy with playing a life sim as farmer.

     

    And this would add more strategic aspects to ship design and deepspace fleet operations. should there be sufficent hydroponics for food on every ship or is it better to have one giant agricultural ship accompanying the fleet? Or maybe even a combination?

     

    And then the hunger and thirst mechanic, will your sourroundings influence how fast you get hungry and thirsty?

  7. Yes you don't care and i don't care, i would simply say here you pay 1% less tax, just to be nice.

    But that doesn't mean there aren't people out there who would reglement marriage.

    For example take the RP character Ser Aison Ironfist Bold, him i would guess could punish married people just to satisfy his diabolic pleasure to see people suffer.

    (this is no attack against the person behind Ser Ironfist, i don't want to get trouble because someone missunderstood this statement as insult against him. And yes this must be said, because this is the Internet ;))

  8. Hmm, pretty old this topic, but let me put my oar in.

    Ingame marriage should be mainly cosmetic, the only thing that they get from the game should be the knowledge about the partners position. Simply you know ever where your partner is regardless the distance between you two. Other benefits like tax reduction should be depending on the faction in which you are.

     

    Just like in real life, you could theoretically marry in a church, but as long as you weren't at the registry office, to register your marriage, you're not married in the eyes of the state and receive no benefits accordingly. At leat here in germany that is so, to my knowledge.

     

    To think about the idea further, as Faction leader the Question for you is: Want you married couples in your faction and how should they look?

    The answer is yes: okay give married people just a little tax reduction, finish.

    The answer is yes, but only straight: same her but the benefits are only applied to straight couples and you could theoretically apply punishments (extra duties) for gay couples, to prevent them from happening.

    The answer is no/don't know: do nothing or punish them, its your decision.

    This is simply made via the rights and duties.

    The only Question left is: Will people that are marry via the game mechanic get an automated "married" tag, where the "Marriage Law" of the faction applys to or not?

    Organization

    The Union is a Federal Nation and is organized in four administrative levels:

    National, Planetary, Regional and City

    Each Level is more or less self-regulating and has an own parliament.

     

    Government

     

    Leader

    The Leader is the head of the National Parliament and the Ministerial Council, he is also in direct control over the Military, together with the Supreme Commander.

    A Successor and Second-in-command is elected by the National Parliament.

    Candidates for this Position can be proposed by the retiring Leader, the Military Council and the National Parliament.

     

    Parliaments

    The National Parliament is made up of the Leader, the Ministers, five representatives elected direct from the citizenship and at least one representative from each planet. With the growth of population, the planets are granted additional seats in the Parliament, 1 for every 2,500 citizens (Numbers may change after game launch). The Parliament also makes laws that are valid for the entire nation and decide together with the leader and ministers on the future course of the nation. The Parliament will meet at least once a month.

     

    The Planetary Parliaments are made up of at least one representative from each Region and one from each City that exceeds 500 citizens. With the growth of population, the regions are granted additional seats in the Parliament, 1 for every 500 citizens (Numbers may change after game launch). The Parliament also makes laws that are valid for the entire planet and elect its representatives for the National Parliament.

     

    The Regional Parliaments are made up of at least one representative from each City in the Region. With the growth of population, the cities are granted additional seats in the Parliament, 1 for every 200 citizens (Numbers may change after game launch). The Parliament also makes laws that are valid for the entire region and elect its representatives for the Planetary Parliament.

     

    The City Parliaments are made up of at least five elected representatives from the Citizenship. With the growth of population, the Parliament gets additional seats, 1 for every 100 citizens, up to a maximum of 30 seats (Numbers may change after game launch). The Parliament also makes laws that are valid for the City and elect its representatives for the Regional Parliament.

     

    The Parliaments will be able to choose their meeting cycle, recommended is once a month,

    the elections are held once a year.

     

    Ministries

    The Ministries are the Administration of the Nation and are operating on all administrative levels. The only administrative level that will have all ministries, is the National Level. Depending on the tasks of the ministries, they will have branches in the various administrative levels.

    Tasks that have the ministries, for example, are: Nomination of judges and ambassadors, operating Stargates owned by the government, city and infrastructural planning, tax collection and distribution, i.e. the everyday tasks.

     

    Ministries that are likely to arise are:

    Ministry of Economy

    Ministry of Finance

    Ministry of Trade

    Ministry of Justice

    Ministry of Internal Affairs

    Ministry of Foreign Affairs

    Ministry of Exploration

    Each Ministry will be led by a Minister, chosen by the Leader and approved by the National Parliament, the Minister will choose a Second-in-command. There will be also Ministers without official ministries.

     

    The Ministerial Council will meet once a week to discuss the current affairs of the nation and to consult.

    This Council consist only of the leader, his Second-in-command and the ministers.

     

    Military

    The Military is led by the Leader, the Supreme Commander and a Military Council. The Military Council consist of the Leader, the Supreme Commander, the Minister of Military, the Minister of Defense, the Minister for Special Tasks and high ranking Officers such as the General of the national planetary Forces, the Admiral of the national orbital Forces, the Admiral of the national deep-space Forces and the highest ranking Admirals and Generals of the planetary and orbital defense Forces. The Military Council is in charge of all military facilities, including the Military Intelligence Service and the Military Academy. The Council also makes laws which only apply to the Military and provides the judges for the Military Court.

    A majority vote of at least 75% in the National Parliament is automatically a superior order and the military has to follow this order, neither the Leader nor the Supreme Commander can revoke this order.

     

    Supreme Commander

    The Supreme Commander has in great military decisions, like war and peace, equal power to the Leader, but in the overall military structure he is superior to the Leader.

    The Successor of the Supreme Commander is elected by the Military Council and must be acknowledged by the National Parliament, when this not happens the election is held again. Candidates for this position can be proposed by the Leader, the retiring Supreme Commander and the Military Council.

     

    The Military is organized as following:

     

    National Forces:

    This Forces are stationed all over the Nation, they are the offensive Forces of the Nation, are responsible for the national space and are financed and maintained by the whole nation. The National Forces are split in 3 sub-commands and 4 Support Units, Engineer-Corps, Medic-Corps, Pioneer-Corps and Military Police

     

    National Planetary Forces:

    Local Defense Forces:

    Cinderfall Syndicate

    As a member of the Cinderfall Syndicate, the government of the Terran Union will actively work with the Authority Council, so that the citizens of the Union and members of Cinderfall will have a pleasant time in the universe.

     

     

    Economy

    The Economy of the Terran Union will mainly be consisting of private ruled companies, but there will also be government ruled facilities, such as shipyards and trade posts.

     

    Companies

     

    Be a Company in the Union

    (means the headquarters will be on TU territory)

    Your Company will be part of the Union and it would be gladly seen if your employees would also be Citizens of the Union.

    The Company will follow the law, pay taxes and sometimes the company will be offered contracts by the government (conditions in Gameplay/PvE/Building | Designing | Scripting | Engineering).

    Military contracts are mostly given to companies that are within the Union.

    Your company will be allowed to have contracts with other factions and even branches in other faction’s territory, you can also call for help by the TU, be it diplomatically help to establish trade routes or military help to defend your property.

    You will be an independent company and the company and their employees can make whatever they want.

    If you want to work with us you can ask for a contract or we offer you one, we will also search for friendly relations and offer to establish branches or mining rights in our territory.

    You will have no rights to call for help by the TU, but any kind of help can be part of a contract.

    The protection of your valuables is an important task, so the National bank is offering safes for a small fee. Here you can store whatever you want and it will be under the protection of the government.

    The National Bank will offer loans for Citizens and Companies in the Union.

    Basic Markets

    An item market for the everyday needs. Established in cities exceeding 50 Citizens.

     

    Advanced Markets

    An item market for advanced elements and materials. Established in cities exceeding 200 Citizens.

     

    Capital Markets

    A market for everything your heart desires. Only established in planetary and regional capitals.

    Ship market included. Will have Government Trader.

     

    Orbital Markets

    A market for everything and in huge amounts. One per planet.

    Ship market included. Will have Government Trader.

     

     

    Society

     

    Libraries

     

    Public Libraries

    We will have public libraries, where all the unclassified knowledge, exploration data and recipes, that are gathered by the Union, will be stored for the access of the Citizens.

     

    Government Library

    This Library will be containing all the information that are be considered as classified by the government. Including recipes/blueprints for weapons of mass destruction, blueprints for military ships, locations of important/very valuable resources and so on.

    Access to this information’s are only granted to employees of the government with corresponding release level.

     

    Schools

     

    Public Schools

    We will have public schools accessible by Citizens of the Union.

    Here you can learn a profession of your choice. Experienced players will teach you what is important for your chosen profession, providing recipes and blueprints and will help you to increase your skills to a certain degree.   

     

    Government Schools

    We will have schools accessible only by employees of the government.

    Here is the choice of profession more specific and more challenging. Experienced employees will teach you what is important for your chosen profession, providing recipes, blueprints and resources and will help you to increase your skills to a degree of your liking.  

     

    New Employees of the Administration will be also trained here. They are taught how the government works, what their duties and if necessary the handling of tools outside of the game, for example Excel.

     

    Military Academy

    Here will be trained the military personal in courses such as, basic training, advanced tactics, fleet maneuver or advanced officer training.

     

    News

     

    Public Service Announcements

    We will provide Public Service Announcements for each administrative level, in our forum (once it is released) and on in game bulletin-boards.

     

    Newspaper

    We will provide a nation-wide newspaper, published by opinion independent journalists (I hope this makes sense, what I mean is that they will get a salary from the government, but they will be free to write whatever they want, would I write “opinion-free” it would probably indicate the exact opposite. Terminology is really difficult please help me someone with this). About what the newspaper will report, will depend on the news priority for the nation. It is also possible that there will be more local-oriented newspapers.

     

    Newscast

    We will provide a Newscast with the most important news regarding the Union and the galaxy, such as wars, peace treaties, politics (mostly TU but also galaxy), government decisions, new colonies and sometimes a bit propaganda for example the completion of a new TU Capital ship.

    The newscast will be provided via YouTube and in game functions.

     

     

    Gameplay

     

    PvE

    Exploration

    We will finance exploration missions of different sizes, reaching from single ship missions, to long journey convoys with multiple ships.

    The only we are asking for is, to share your data and discoveries first with us, before you sell it to others.

     

    Mining

    We will offer regular trips to different mining locations, including a military escort. Depending on where the location is, how valuable are the mineable resources and how often the trip is made, the size of the convoy will reach from just a few, to dozens of ships with hundreds of players. But we require for the protection we provide 10% (5% for citizens of the TU) of the resources which you have mined.

     

    We will also have continuous mining missions with Motherships or Stations, of course also under the protection of our Military. If you're a freelancer, you can mine in the region where the mission is and give us 10% (5% for citizens of the TU) of your mined resources or we could buy the resources but for a slightly cheaper price as on the free market. If you're a Newbie or just need some cash, we offer salaries to mine for us and you can decide if you prefer your own ship to mine with or if you want to borrow a ship from us for free. (this will probably be limited due to the limited space on board the motherships and stations)

     

    Building | Designing | Scripting | Engineering

    We will offer different contracts to make something for us, that could be a Script, a Design Concept, a Mechanical Contraption, a Ship, a Building, a Megaproject or just a simple beautification of a city.

    The contracts are split in 3 main categories:

    1. Employee-Contract: We'll pay you a salary and providing the resources for the work, to which we assign you.

    2. Freelancer-Contract: We'll pay you a fixed amount and provide or pay for the used materials.

    3. Company-Contract: These contracts are awarded only to companies and will be negotiated.

    After the completion of the contracts, the created blueprints are passed to the Terran Union.

     

    Trade | Transportation

    We will regular offer escorts to trade posts that are far away from the TU Territory. To participate, a fixed price is estimated, depending on the duration and dangerousness of the journey.

     

    We will also offer missions and long-term contracts, to transport goods and people for us.

     

    Science

    We will offer positions in our research facilities for scientists and engineers who are more in development than maintenance. As an employed researcher you are free in your choice of research, but sometimes you will get requests, which you can reject, but consider your reputation.

    In case of war, a rejected request can lead to a dismissal, depending on the importance of the request and your current research.

    This will be an employment; you will get a salary but your discoveries will belong to the Union.

    We will also offer Freelancer and Company-Contracts, if we need some specific tech to be researched fast.

     

    Maintenance

    We will have a lot of civilian buildings, ships and stations and they must be maintained.

    If you considering such work, we will offer you an employment and a salary.

     

    Other

    As the development of the game is progressing, there will be probably other career branches and as soon as we know it we will offer employments, contracts and missions.

     

     

    PvP

    Mercenaries

    We will offer missions and contracts to people who don't want to join the military, but be prepared this work will be dirty and probably more on the unofficial side of things.

     

    Events

    We will organize different kinds of competitions, for example building competitions in various classes reaching from art, to fighters, and we will probably have dog fights. We are open for suggestions.

     

    Interplanetary Tournaments

    Once a year we will organize a great national tournament, where every citizen of the Union can show his skills.

    The participants will compete in various disciplines, such as building, dog fight, racing, strategy, and so on. The tournament will start in the cities and every citizen can register there. The winner on city level will then compete on the regional level, the winner of this are going on the planetary level and after this we will have the grand final on the national level.

     

    General/Social/RP

     

    Holiday Events

    We will try to organize Events timed and themed to real-life holidays and we will try to get other factions and maybe even the devs on board for this.

     

    Roleplaying

    RP is welcome but not necessary.

    We will try to create events and special areas for roleplaying and we look forward to receive ideas and suggestions from you.

     

     

    Joining the Union

     

    Warning

    If you want a position as high ranking official (Minister, Parliament representative, General and Admiral) you should be aware that this means a lot of work for you and you will probably receive phone calls in the middle of the night, because of some catastrophe or enemy attack.

     

    If you want to be a member of the administration, you should be aware that this means work and you should have some skills in office software. Even after you finished your work you will be a contact person for the citizens of the TU.

     

    If you want a position in the military, you should be aware that this means discipline and to follow orders. If an officer ordering you to jump, you will jump and not ask why. You will us also tell fixed times in which you are online and at least half this time you are on duty; in the other half you can do what you want. Next topic is that you've committed yourself, just leaving is desert and will have consequences, but you aren't bound forever. The Contract will have a runtime of 3 months, 10 deaths on duty or 50 dead enemies. I know this whole thing sounds not really good, but here is the good part, you will get a very generous salary and we will take good care of you.

     

    The above mentioned jobs are 18+ exceptions considered on case by case basis.

     

    Ranks

    (currently available. with time it will be more | To pay taxes and to follow the law, are duties for all ranks)

    Citizen: Your only duties are to pay taxes and to follow the law, otherwise your freedom is boundless and well protected by military and law enforcement.

    Government employed: You are an employee of the faction and as such you get a salary and you have in some cases access to the resources of the faction, but your work will belong to the faction.

    Soldier: Pretty good description above in the warning.

    We are a Nation we accept all as long as they follow the law.

I think a way to work around the performance loss due to multi-block-structures, could be an entity editor in wich you could build and test your multi-block creations. if you then hit the finish button it would convert your creation into a single entity with fixed stats. So you have the best of both worlds, the customizability of FTD and Starmade and the less performance hungry single entity strategie from SE and Empyrion. And with such an editor you could not only build weapons and reactors, complex mechanical cotraptions would be possibly too.

  11. I don't even know what my faction is, the administration is split in several administrative levels, like germany with federal, state and city. It also has a touch of monarchy, but it isn't a parliamentary monachy like the UK, where the Queen is just representative. it's just a mishmash by things which I think are good.

     

    And as for the name, the last thing I thought was "Terran Union". Let me hear your opinion.

  12. I would take this idea even a step further with visual information in form of a "strategic table" for the Admiral and HUDs for the Captains, that are updating their information in realtime or almost realtime depending on techlevel and counter measures from the enemy.

     

    The strategic table should almost work like a strategie game, displaying the battle in 3D with various levels of information, such as health of ships, crew number, weapon status, engine capabilitys and so on. Simply all information gathered by all sensors of the fleet flow there together. Now to the commanding, the admiral should be able to place orders via the table, position to fly to or to hold, targets in various detail from just the bridge of the enemy ship to the whole thing, formation orders and so on. This orders are then send to the HUDs of the commanded ships, so that the captains know where to fly and where to shoot.

     

    Yes i know a tool how i described here is very powerful, but there should be some limiting factors like the techlevel you have, for example you just researched the fleet managment the only infos you get are the position of your ships, their health, the enemys are just blinking red lights without exact position and the only orders you can give are "fly there" and "shoot there".

    The next limiting factor should be enemy counter measures, like radio jamming and cyber warfare, so you could have the highest possible tech level but are the counter measures strong enough, your level of information is just so high as at the first tier of the tech or even lower. And even worse the enemy could hijack your signal and get his intel direct from your fleet.

    The possibilities of cyber warfare, mentioned before as counter measure, aren't just counter measure it has also offensive use, from simply shutdown a subsystem to trigger the selfdestruct of enemy vehicle, of course its also limited by the before mentioned factors.

    The possibilities are just endless.

    This challenges were enough to trigger my ambitions and i'm currently working hard on my faction to face this "threats".

     

    Edit 1: And once again, I have to remember that I'm totally insane. Currently i'm working on an organization chart for a mature nation, including ministers, departments, military structure, legislative, judicial, executive and many more. I've already said that I am mad? :lol:

     

    Edit 2: should someone have name suggestions for my faction please let me know, at the moment is my brain just too full with the entire organizational stuff and in general the names i choose tend to be slightly shitty. ^^

  14. My name is Darius Sanguna, i'm 23 years old and live in germany.

    I hope this game will be, what i heard it want to be and i'm looking forward to this. I think this game could be a great social experiment and also a real virtual reality.

    A quick warning about my person, i'm insane, the biggest is never big enough for me. :D But with this game, that might change.

    And a second warning, i'm honest, very honest, here in germany we have a saying: "Das Herz auf der Zunge tragen." the literal translation is: "carry the heart on the tongue", it means to say something without thinking on other persons feelings. If you ask me about my opinion, you will get my honest opinion, without any protection of your feelings, but in the most cases you get also construktive suggestions how you can make it better.

    I also have a hero complex, at least i call it so. What i mean is, i always try to be the good guy, who is helping the people and wish for all a long, happy and prosperous life. If someone works with me then i'm usually very generous, open-hearted and forgiving, but if someone tries to exploit me, it makes the contrary really fast. And should anyone violate my deepest beliefs (for the most part, simply the human rights), for example slaveholders and raiders, I have no qualms to track and destroy them until no remains are left.

     

    So i think its all said, this was probably the most detailed introduction i've ever made. xD
