Dont come with "our engine cant do it" or any other BS excuse. a pro programer could add it to the game in 1 day. do it for the launch!

A pro would advise against just doing it and instead look at what impact it would have to existing functionality and how to eliminate or reduce risk to put it in.

  2. One would hope that all hands are on deck, swabbing and polishing.  I've noticed little things here and there after recent patches but it's going to come down to the wire.  With the server being down close to a week between end of Beta and launch we probably won't even be aware of the last 20% of the stuff being bludgeoned into "good enough" shape to at least put the champagne bottle on the rope for the grand ceremony.

Well, we don't really need a raytrace here, to be honest.

I may have mixed my terms slightly as I meant ray cast (trace is following the particle after initial collision/ricochet).  It is a common technique in FPS shooting games for bullet pathing, not just as a way of getting reflections and lighting effects.

I didn't understando the mushroom idea though.

TBH it probably isn't well thought out either.  I meant it as a per construct method of compensating for scan time/distance where a ship 'would' be in the cone by the time it reached their intersecting path but is not currently.

Edit:  Now that I've had more time to mull it over a different term that may be more appropriate for what I am trying to describe would be inertia probability matrix.

How do you even dare suggesting something as cool and immersive as that! I know it's not very technically possible, but at least the part of having something to "detect" and ping us about that scan would be quite cool. As I said, there's so much potential for cool mechanics, but I'm not sure if they will ever consider adding them 😕

It is very technically possible, but the question is would it be scalable?  A search mechanic like that would essentially be a ray trace, reporting collisions (including any vessel's velocity potential) within a cone.  The volume of the search area would be the same in every case.  It would be a matter of variations between a short distance sawed-off shotgun blast and ultra-precision scoped long barrel.  As for a vessel's velocity potential; that is the entire spectrum of possible change in movement from the trajectory, mass, and max possible maneuvering from those factors.  I envision it as a mushroom shape where the stem length is determined by that vessel's current min stop distance with max effort (i.e. turn and burn with full brake).

  5. That was in context of the conversation - If one can prove that a player is taking action to prevent others from being able to play that is.  It was also to illustrate that there is an appropriate mechanic in place for the abandoned constructs.

    those "crashed" ships

...will become free for anyone to salvage if left for 7 days.  If they players are coming back and resetting that timer with no effort to repair or move away then it should be a ban worthy offense.

The idea of a deep space radar would be awesome to have, having it ping ship locations would add to all kind of new mechanics and meta too, not just into asteroid hunting but to PVP, hauling, pretty much everything, since one could use that radar to find asteroids, players on pipes, detect blockades, etc. I guess everyone would have a more active gameplay, too. For example, the hunters would need to monitor that radar to find prey, the miners or haulers would have to monitor it to detect any pirates, etc. I really wish oneone at NQ had a look at this and gave us some feedback :P

Exploration and active gameplay is what lacks so much on DU and that will be a bummer upon release. Like, most things pretty much only sum up to afk travelling from point A to B, both if you have some kind of autopilot or not. It's boring. Would be nice if we had more things to do, even if it was some kind of minigame to "scan" space with our radar.

There aren't too many asteroids to do this and usually they aren't close to each other. If you take 40 minutes to go from one asteroid to another you only have 3 asteroids on the "middle column" before their location starts becoming public, and even so one can still track you since they can see which was most recently discovered. I do agree with the scanner idea, though, it would be MUCH better to just have that, even better if we could equip ships with some kind of jammer element that would require you to be much closer to properly scan that ship. There's so many possibilities here, but Idk if we'll ever get to that, sadly 😕

Imagine adding a real time sound element like sonar/echo location/ping on a submarine.  To the trained ear the tone, amplitude, and intensity would be able to tell the player what type of scan just hit faster than they could read a message about it.  Talk about immersion!  There's the gentle sweep of a wide scan like a handshake between players saying, "Hello to anyone out there, I am in your local space."  There's the deep bass thud of a directional ore scan that will lead to community discussion about checking LoS before performing repeat scans.  Then we have the trill of the hunter's ping that raises the hair on the back of your neck with the slightest increase in amplitude and the haunting feeling that something hungry is watching you.

Yes, this is a super annoying issue. It is not just on ships where this is a problem. You can place new industry elements, turn them on, and they will begin production and then a day later you can come back and the machine is stopped with an error due to overlapping elements.

I was not aware of that.  I still get issues on cores I placed before the updates for overlapping elements.  Even after correcting them.  I haven't had the slightest issue with new cores but I've been focused entirely on dynamic cores.

I also must say that the forum is filled with things from NQ and not from the community

There are sections of the forums that are only NQ posts.  The conversations generally fall within the 80/20 rule as NQ have less time on their hands than someone like me.

Is a subscription needed to keep your builds?

You need a subscription to play on the permanent server.  There will be a free trial server that gets reset/wiped on a regular basis.

    "EA comes back to steam"

Is that so? Can I add BF5 to my library?

"You can add it as a third party game, which does absolutely nothing"

Then I tried their learning impaired subscription (ea play), got the game there, trying to link my accounts somehow (something which only exists for a learning impaired star wars normie title). Absolutely impossible to bring my account over to stop using learning impaired origin...

So I am confident this can be fornicated up, and will only believe it once I see it.

The nested game service within a game service is a horrible idea in general.  I bought a "complete" game bundle on a Steam sale not realizing you still had to install and use Origin in order to access content purchased through Steam.  I went through the effort to install but once I saw the several steps required to launch the launcher that launches the bundle launcher that then lets you launch each of the games in the bundle... refund!

  11. Current real world technology can identify mineral content in asteroids and comets from Earth so the only aspect of DSAT as is that could potentially make sense is triangulation.  If NQ were to add directional scanners tuned for different purposes it would make sense, add active game play mechanics, and probably be fun for PvE and PvP.  The cone width/resolution should be adjustable and provide a range of functionality akin to different handheld scanners/modes for ore.

Edit:  This could also lend itself to ECM and ECCM game play.

    Hi NQ,

why is it fair to backers higher silver when new players with only one month gametime from Markee-Dragon ($9.99) and a subscript of 12 months gametime ($83.88) (total $93.87), get the same pioneer pack?

The cheapest Gold cost 112$ (Gold Founder Pack (Early Bird)) and more from there.

Also, it would be good if you can buy from Markee-Dragon in € (exchange rate) (so far pricing at NQ).

    Die Waldfee

    Greetings huschhusch,

As an Emerald founder you should receive the physical products promised in the Kickstarter, all 5 tiers of in-game pet (when/if we get them), 80 DACs, 2 STUs, lifetime subscription, and multiple cosmetic items.  The boost from the Pioneer pack is available to everyone with subscription time prior to launch and granted (gratis) to the early adopters.  Since the Pioneer pack contains benefits that can impact gameplay it is in everyone's best interest that it is easy to access and not be more potent than already announced.

An advice would be to join an organization as well. As a beginner the game is hard to master.

Any recommended tags to look for?  I know there are at least a handful of orgs that help with new players but I couldn't begin to name them at this point.
