  1. Unless you have gotten on the wrong side of some people, the only thing you have wasted is time. The starter points won't do much, so there is no real advantage starting new. It will take the same time to build talents regardless. So start building talents in the new direction with the character you already have, and look at the other talents as a bonus.
  2. From the client perspective that is a network congestion problem, not a CPU/GPU problem. You could even make the argument that since the game is mostly network bound, cpu and gpu usage should be lower then other games. Ignoring the server load, there is nothing displayed on the client monitor that justifies the CPU/GPU load.
  3. The queue only refresh when you add or remove something. So if you add something that stalls and then fix the problem, the item will not start unless you add another item to the queue.
  4. I was just struggling with the same problem. "Linked container is empty". But I have seen people using containers, so hopefully there is a solution.
  5. Very nice. Also like that you used github, much cleaner and easier to read then posting mangled lua scripts in the forum. Edit: Just had a proper look, very nice and clean implementation. I just added <style>.small{font-size:24px;}</style> to the svg to increase the text size a little.
  6. If that was the case, we would by definition already have CvC enabled in the entire game.
  7. Someone in the in-game support channel also talked about destroyed constructs after the last server maintenance.
  8. Hmm.. There are high tier talents that specifically say they give bonus on elements when placed. This is crucial for ppl wanting to sell for example ships, being able to sell something with higher performance then stock regardless of buyer piloting talents.
  9. Also know as <French accent> "Relax guys, we know there is an issue and we will fix this later". But when 'later' hasn't shown up for core problems after years of dev time, you start to worry. I didn't want this to happen. But this entire 'beta' release and the problems with it, feels like a big fat told you so. And all the signs where there beforehand.
  10. +1 There is already precedence for this in the game, with the frontal areal of a construct deciding atmospheric drag.
  11. I actually agree that a creative mode would hurt the game. But at the same time, when you go into the market and look at elements there is not even a resemblance of enough information about functionality and element size to make good purchasing decisions. So unless you have pre-alpha 999 experience, you have to blindly buy one of everything to try and figure out the functionality. Which is a hard sell for a beginner with hardly any resources.
  12. There are some nasty bugs in the client for sure. I've had a couple of total system freeze situations, where sound is stuck playing in a loop and nothing (including the mouse cursor) is responding.
  13. As said, use brakes. And if you place a gyro element on a level surface and activate it, you will get a display in the HUD showing pitch and roll angles which is very helpful with leveling the ship.
  14. In DU 30K represents light speed, which is why it is impossible to get past 29,999. So if a rocket is able to track and hit you at that speed, it is doing something impossible. Or something that has an astronomically small chance of success to be more exact if the rocket is traveling towards the ship, instead of trying to catch it from behind which would be actually impossible (for any type of weapon, including laser). And for me it keeps coming back to one word incentive. In the sense that DU has a pillar more important then any others, it is that it is a building game. That is the core technology of the game that everything else is built around. And so it makes sense that this game will attract more of the creative type people then your typical MMO. People from Landmark, Second Life, Minecraft etc. looking for something to bridge the creative side with a MMO. Which brings us back to incentive. Why would anyone put effort and energy into creating, when it can be easily torn down by anyone with a gun wanting to kill some spare time? So don't misunderstand me. I am not arguing against PvP. But the rules of engagement has to be clear. And there has to be a balance of creation vs destruction. Having PvP weapons bend the laws of physics as established by the game, while builders (potentially in the near future) are limited to a single resource scarce sanctuary moon and a single STU per player. Is not an example of this.
  15. The quick refinement from pure to voxel do make sense, since the time is put into making pure. Once you have stocked up on pure, you then have freedom to make different voxel materials as needed while building.
  16. The physical laws of the entire universe suddenly taking a coffee break and resting all inertia and momentum, is not an unexpected situation. It is a server crash.
  17. PvP is one of the four main pillars, not the main pillar. This is something JC/NQ has been very clear about since the beginning. All I said is that there at least has to be a possible way to transfer ownership without PvP.
  18. Your goal is to stay above the attitude with less then 10% athmosphere long enough for space engine to kick in and achieve escape velocity. More engines will increase speed which wings convert into lift, but at <10% there is hardly any lift and a limit to how fast you can go before you tear apart the ship. So you have two options. - Add so much atmos engine power that you have enough speed while climbing to punch through using brute force - Add more wings/stab so that you have enough lift to maintain <10% and let the space engines build speed until you have escape velocity (somewhat similar to how it is done RL, minus the wing part)
  19. It doesn't have to be abandoned, but as the owner of a hex I should be the master of anything permanently placed there Making PvP the only way to transfer ownership seems very excessive for a game that is not supposed to be only about PvP. What if someone actually did peaceful negotiation and bought a hex (including static constructs) from someone else? I know this might sound very radical, but I have heard rumors that it might be possible to achieve things without all out war.
  20. At this point I would not take the meaning of every error messages literally since there is so much going on with the servers. For example I got the same message multiple times while placing voxels in build mode.
  21. Sounds very much like a bug to me, the potential for exploiting this is kinda obvious.
