  1. I stopped this discussion a long time ago. I've already needed to get the information I wanted out there and initiate collection of some more for the future as well.

If you wanted to prove that my issue wasn't right as well, you should've just given me a reason that I'm wrong. Not just saying that I am.

Nyzaltar was on the forum for most if not all of this so I mustn't have done anything to upset him. If I did, I formally apologize. My intention was to point out something I viewed as needed to be addressed and I did it in a very harsh manor, using the top organization as an example.

You started a thread. You didn't start or stop the discussion. The discussion began when someone responded and will end when either 1) people stop responding or 2) the moderators close it. Welcome to the internet.

I don't need to prove anything. Nothing in this thread has been proven, disproven, credited or discredited.

You started a thread attempting to discredit Cybrex and BOO for using fake accounts USING A FAKE ACCOUNT! Aside from the duplicitous lack of accountability and blatant disregard for your own espoused morality, do you not see the utter and absolute irony of your thread being posted in such a manner?

You're merely a buffoon attempting to seem or feel clever by ridiculous and exaggerated charade.

  2. Well done! You've looked at my profile. By that logic, I'm also 97 years old. I've been browsing the forums for many months now not making an account.

The time for my presence to be known was upon me.

Don't think I'm going to bring up points about just BOO by the way. There are other orgs doing stuff that they shouldn't. Not one person is at falt.

It shows you made the account the previous day, I never implied the account information was correct or worth discussing. I don't care to debate your age or your I as I'm sure they're comparable and neither of any consequence. Fault? Someone is at fault? For what?Logic... sure.

This is just a poor attempt at defining an issue that doesn't even exist. Why don't you just crawl back in your hole. Hopefully NQ will appoint some moderators soon. There goes the neighborhood...

  3. This is what happens when someone gets upset because players don't want to be in their org and makes an alt account...

It's okay we don't care either....

"Business" how interesting, this didn't exactly seem like "business".

It is business, because it's a stealth org member starting shit for no reason other than drama. Probably the goons or similar asshats.

  4. As a future developer in Dual Universe, the idea of DACs as payment seems like an interesting prospect.  But the more I think about it, the more it seems like a bit of a d-bag move on the part of the developers.  I don't want this to be an overtly negative post, but bear with me..

I intend to be creating a whole lot of stuff in game, ships, defenses, tools, etc. with full Lua scripting to back them all up.  These things will take a TON of time to develop if you hope to have a decent result from them.  However, with the Dual Access Coupons being the only *real* form of payment I can hope to receive in game, it kind of feels like a bit of a face slap.  Think about it.

I spend 25 hours working on a super awesome engine control module with advanced auto-maneuvering for someone who requested it custom.  Joe Space Captain goes to the Dual website and buys himself two DACs to give to me as payment for the work I did. Great, I got this month and next in game for free as payment.  = 30 Euro savings or whatever for me.

Now, instead of a custom job, I make a super awesome base turret blueprint that I sell on open market.  Let's say 250 people buy it at 500 credits each, and I trade those 125,000 credits for 5 DACs that people are selling on the market.  What happened here?  I now have 5 free months in game, which I may or may not ever use, but NovaQuark just made 75 euro in real money cash for all of that work that I did. Once I start collecting DACs like candy because now 10,000 users have realized how good it is and have purchased my super-awesome turret, NQ is rolling in the money for work I did, and those DACs I accrued have become virtually useless to me.

Obviously, I made assumptions the monthly fee is 12 euro and DAC are 15 euro.  Actual cost doesn't really matter.

The more I make and sell on market, the more trivial the DACs will become. Meanwhile, NQ makes tons of constant value cash on my work. My alternative would be to just hoard the in-game currency, which has equally nil real-world value.

I have to imagine that with this system of payments, serious developers and builders will eventually just start dealing outside of the game and make contracts to do in-game work with payments in real cash.  That's the only way it would actually be worth it to build things over the long term.  All of the really good stuff in game will only be accessible through various user-run black markets outside of game, with in-game market only used for trivial purchases just to get items transferred and to earn the in-game money needed for resource accumulation.

I could be wrong, but that's what I foresee happening. What are your thoughts?

The simple solution: If you don't feel like playing DU don't. How you spend your time doing so and whether or not you feel like it's a worthwhile investment are entirely subjective and based on personal perspective. First of all, for you to believe that you "deserve" some sort of just reward for playing a video game as a self-purported "developer" is laughable to say the very least.

Secondly, for you to consider your time spent as a measurable source of real world income speaks to a number of psycho-social disorders not the least of which is blatant narcissism. Tell me, when driving down the road at night, do you look out of your vehicle's window and wonder "why is the moon following me again"?

    How about, "get a life"?

  5. I would be okay with a system of payment that isn't so constricted by time. I would never be willing to pay on a monthly basis. The constraint of only being able to get online for a month is suffocating. So why not replace that model with a similar one that is essentially buying hours to play the game, so that it is still a subscription, but instead of being pressured to play the game as much as possible, one could decide that the game in it's current state just doesn't suit them and would rather wait a while and save the hours they bought until a later time when the person actually wants to play.

I personally find this beneficial in that it gives the player freedom to play when they want to play and not be "forced" into playing the game. This was something I absolutely hated about the free trial for EVE Online. It was timed. The game still gets a constant stream of income, since the player will eventually run out of hours and have to pay for more.

Just like in EVE Online your character(s) will gain skill while you are offline... your character will require 24/7 support for this to work. I realize there aren't actual changes being made to your character while you are offline and rather changes are applied when the character logs on...

However, time is time... whether I watch the clock all day long or simply glance at it after sundown. Nothing in this world is free... the servers run 24/7 so you can log on whenever you feel like it. Something has to keep them alive during the interim.

  6. After reading through the kickstarter page I see that the devs have decided on a subscription model, at $13/£10 per month, a similar price to other popular MMO's.  But I have to ask, what exactly justifies this price?

Games like World of Warcraft, for their £10 per month subscription add a continous steam of new content.  In Dual Univese though, its content is entirely player-made. So what will Dual Universe be adding to the game on a continous basis to justify that ongoing subscription?

Dual Univese looks like a great game, but I don't see how it's worth paying a subscription for, let alone one as high as that.

Functionalities, possibilities, enhanced game mechanics, new construct types, enhanced galactic and astral manipulations, general expansion of the universe, etc...

After that it'll be up to you to add content. Some players are willing to pay for a great big sandbox to play in and the tools to do the digging. Other's like paying to be led by the nose through "theme park" content. Which type of player are you?

  7.

I saw it but now im wondering if planets will be rotating and moving because I though they said they would be statonary (rotation could be slightly different . . . I think) because to me it does look like its moving

I really hope we get orbits/rotation. Imagine building on only 1/2 of a planet... since the other side is always dark...

  8. To be more precise:

    - Crowdfunding campaign: it will be launched before end of 2016.

    - Alpha Launch: early 2017.

So yes, for the time being, we're still on schedule :)

    Best regards,

    Nyzaltar.

Excellent, can't wait to throw some money at this  :D

  9. So, as mentioned in this video interview with the Dual Universe devs, it is said that there will be technological research in order to progress. That means that there will be something similar to tech research in the game. Now, this could mean one of two things.

We could have an actual tech tree that must be researched by time and experimentation such as testing things out. Or my prefered one....

True experimental research where you must test designs, figure out ideas and as such in order to build what you're looking for, ie a FTL drive.

As long as this experimentation is fun.... please no RNG grinding madness. Some people have lives outside of gaming...

  10. Hi

As we know, game is based on construction and creative. So big part of this is variability, which must be same for every player. But at the same time, if we take "Space Engineers", there are huge amount of great MODs with new interesting items and designs. I fully understand it is almost impossible to introduce in MMO game, so I want to ask, will be option to play Single Player mode and have option to add own mods?

I don't interesting about SP as player, but I think, it is great opportunity for developers to find new ideas and get great designs from players.

I don't doubt, you are great developer team, but new ideas could come up from anywhere =)

    Thanks

    Archonious

From the limited amount I have read so far, the devs are specifically focused on delivering an MMO. So the short answer is "no".

Whether the devs ever decide to release a moddable server client remains to be seen.

  11. No one likes pay to play i like the gameplay but the fact its going to be subscription based turns me off the game completely, ill be very sad if this stays-i wanna pay to keep a game not have to keep buying it :(

You never have to pay a monthly subscription. Ever. Well, not as long as you play enough to earn it "in-game".

The devs have made that abundantly clear.

  12. so i just read, the vive needs to have 2 sensor thingies installed on your walls?

    big turnoff.

The IR camera sensors on the walls allow the Vive to motion track your movement within a space. I other words you can walk around inside a game. The Rift can't do that, it only tracks head movement which still requires a IR camera sitting on your desk.

This space game looks great but I'm only interested in buying if it does in fact support VR.  I have Elite Dangerous and that's an amazing experience with the Vive.

Star Citizen will also have VR this year or next year.

DU is unlike ED or SC, both of which I have supported since their beginnings. DU is entirely voxel-based. The possibilities are virtually infinite...

  13. Thanks for the link. I was explaining the DU's concept to my wife and two sons at dinner last evening as we are all pc gamers (I wonder how that happened... :D ).

The oldest boy just graduated with a degree in computer science and has since taken a position on a research team at a very prestigious university. Although just getting started in his career, he is already jaded regarding promises and "visionary" design elements...

He said "I really doubt their claim that millions of players could be supported on a single shard, it's not like developers don't lie at E3... I told him "nooooooooooooooo, they have their own proprietary tech...."

This interview has some good info in it and I think I can now better explain it to him.

He has so much to learn :D

  14. Hello NQ Devs and Alpha enthusiasts!

I have a few questions regarding game-play movement and control schemata.

1.) Is DU being developed from a "PC is King" perspective so that support for peripherals and technologies e.g., HOTAS, K+M, game-pads, VR (RIFT, VIVE etc.), positional tracking, multiple monitors, 4k, etc. are intended?

2.) Will camera controls include multiple angles, distances, etc. including 1st and 3rd person perspectives.

3.) Will multicrew ship systems have functionalities beyond "turret" or generic crew states?

4.) Can you please "PIN" or "sticky" devblog posts as this section will surely gain many new threads and searching for more "info" is here to stay.

    Cheers!

  15. Greetings Alpha dwellers. I come in peaceful discovery of your world, its people, their beliefs and traditions. My expedition is one of scientific inquiry with benevolent intent. Perhaps one day we can exist side-by-side in an alliance of trust and friendship.

If not, prepare for the total annihilation of your species and home system, an extinction suffered by so many unfortunate before you.

    BOOM.....

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone! I found out about DU through the E3 presentation! It's exciting to see a project with this scope and ambition actually do its homework and have the tech to make it happen already in development before asking for tens-of-millions of dollars....

Looking forward to updates and new information along the way.

Cheers and good luck to all!
