    I cant do anything anyway in that timeframe over interstellar distances, why bother with a few seconds delay?

     

    And in the situations where it would matter im already using some out-of-game coms channel, like teamspeak.

     

    Indeed. While I like the idea of realism and immersive experience, this wouldn't be worth the effort.

     

    I would like to see the things I mentioned in my first point, as it is a somewhat given, but the second point clearly expresses some problems in the time delay idea.

I do not think a skill time reduction for any class will be necessary (beyond making low tier skills quicker to learn to medium, high and "elite?" skills), after a while most professions will be populated with people who enjoy them and would train it regardless. To protect the longevity of the game, I would hope nothing is quick. Progression should be (as it is in RL, within reason obviously. It is a game after all) a long process. If you after a few months know all there is to know within your field, you have reached your goal, what then?

     

    Also (not knowing how the final system will be, or any limitations put on it) there is nothing preventing a doctor or medic from being versed in mineral extraction or construction as well. Or other combinations as well. I do hope that you can sculpt a character as you wish (maybe with some limitations, would depend on how it is done) within reason. It is hard to quantify your play style and place that within a box and call it a name. A system with more freedom would offer more players to choose their preferred play style. For example as you mention, giving medics a possibility to skill up in defensive (or offensive) skills as well  ;)

     

    You are correct. Skills will take time. Hopefuly it is as you said, in that it will take actual hard work and time to achieve those skills, but we'll have to see what exactly they have in store for us.

     

    Skills, as far as known, are meant to deterrent for people wanting to experience everything instantly and an attractor for people who want to take time training in their field. We know that skills will take some time, similar to how it will take months for us to achieve space travel. As we also know, it would take over a year of in game time for a player to achieve space travel alone, so that gives us an idea to the skills and research required to achieve such a feat. 

     

    However, most speculation made based on calculations and information, they will be used for what I mention now.

     

    We speculate that skills may be used for weapons systems, engineering, manufacturing, piloting and so on. There is probably more, but we can guess the better your skills are for weapons systems, the better your hit chance and damage is. The better your engineering skill, the better you are at repairing. You get the point. We estimate skills will work this way, but that's just the guess for now.

     

    As for invasion, yes. It wil be possible and it will be epic. Truly, with the size of things, it will be a major feat and should only be tried by the most worthy and confident.

  3. I mean, it's a simple idea but it could have it's uses.... until you think of one thing. While we are using this, there is still the problem that people will use external chat for faster communication. I mean, it wouldn't make sense for chat since there would also be alternatives.

     

    However, for things such as sending maybe a camera feed, radar detections, or similar, it might be feasible.

     

    1. Scanning an area with an automated drone would also store data. Now, let's say you need to send that data a distance. Depending on the distance, it may be possible you need something stronger to transmit the signal, or something to relay that signal.

     

    However, my second point against.
     

    2. Latency as you put it in here, would also take more to calculate. In essence, making the game calculate the signals and the time it takes to get to destinations is unreasonable. If a signal is traveling, and it has multiple receivers, calculating the delay for each one wouldn't be reasonable for the server, and it would just be a waste of time for those waiting for said signals.

  4. This seems interesting. I can tell you need to flesh it out some more, and the idea may be simple, but I am interested to see what comes out of it. 

     

    Well, give it your all, have some fun and see how far you'll get. That's not a half bad strategy sometimes.

  7. Hello again everyone. I have some nice quick announcements today.

     

    I have made partnership deals allowing trades between the following organizations:

     

    Chromion Industrial

    Objective Driveyards

     

    To serve as a reminder, the DUA is currently pushing fowards as fast as I can possible push it by myself. As such, I am writing more on the DUA, both to individuals and for the organization. Constant strides such as contracts between new parties force me to consider the possibilities and expand on each aspect.

If you go on YouTube and search "dual universe explorers", you will find a weekly vlog with lots of good information about the game and where they're at in development.  There hasn't been any more game footage put out yet, but if you subscribe to the channel you will get updated when there is a new episode available.

    Here on the forums, you will find a variety of things to do, such as join communities, discuss possible game mechanics and more.

Well, yes, the same coding used for mining could be retrofited for the droids to make transportation runs for items instead of the playeer doing so, the point is, there will be DPUs as the devs explained, the thing is that it's like in real life, one prcessor doesn't fit every situation, so it's safe to expect different tiers of DPUs, perhaps taking more commands as you go up the tier list, while increasing power consumption, so you couldn't use a high tier DPU to make a droid, but you could use a high tier DPU to automate a space ship's functions that can also support the power need of the greater in power DPU.

    Automation is not a bad thing. Period.

     

    Complete automation is a bad thing. When complete and total automation of a specified process occurs, a play is given a benifit beyond belief. I beleve that everyone could do with a little automation. 

     

    Let me just hand you an example. Let's say you have a smart home system that wakes you up, turns on the coffee machine and opens the blinds. That is completely fine and should be welcomed, as it already is. However, when you see that the automation now lifts your bed, glides it down the hallway and gives you a full course breakfast, it's a problem. Not only is it a problem, but it sounds absurd because now you have eliminated things that are healthy, and have turned it into a complete glob.

     

    So, automated mining, to a degree, is a healthy thing. Automated, mining, extraction, refining, and crafting all on the same ship or station without any workers. Problem.

    Now, currently, I am still just doing stuff to improve the DUA website, relations, and all that stuff. Since it's all still growing fast, things can be expected. Fortunitly, things have gone quite well. I am currently almost done forming a trade agreement with Chromium Industries and am happy at how far the alliances with the DUA have come.
