  1. OP raises a valid point if he actually gets the amount he is mentioning at checkout. Although the way he does it really is not constructive nor appropriate IMO.
  2. The player base can't control this obviously and such a suggestion is rather silly IMO. And I do not see anyone here suggesting any absurd nonsense counters to wards those who choose to have a career outside of civilisation and go their own way, evil or not. Or are you saying we rely on bounty hunters and hired guns alone for this? If you wish to be a pirate fine, you should have that possibility. There needs to be a balance and consequence to that choice as with anything in game (and life).
  3. You need to deduct 20% VAT from the EUR price first though as sales tax is included in that. My question is how did OP actually get to the CAD285 he needs to pay? If Xsolla gave him that price on checkout then there may be an issue there with EU VAT being charged which may be incorrect or not (I could be wrong.. not an expert on this) If this is actually correct then yes, the US will have separate pricing where the EU VAT amount is taken out. That may (later) also apply to other countries, would be up to NQ to arrange obviously. EDIT: Did some Googleing on this and while I'd take your average google 'expert' opinion with a grain of salt, it appears VAT would be charged when buying from an EU country outside the EU. You woudl then need to claim the VAT back yourself. This may be more complicated then it seems..
  4. Don't think he was vague at all. His point is that he feels he should be able to conduct his business as he sees fit outside the safezones, be it as a pirate, a trader, a warlord or as 'the genius evil one ..' I do not think there is much to argue about in that at all as NQ has clearly said that that would be possible, you only need to look up the frontpage of the website. What the argument is IMO is whether aggression outside of war should be left un-countered and 'so whatever man, kill whoever and feel free to then walk into a safezone and laugh at all the people buying new ships there'. I for one feel there needs to be a balance there. How to get hat done is really not easy and may take some time.
  5. This was never up for debate nor was there disagreement on this. It's also not the topic the OP raised.
  6. @maxxuser You wrote earlier US price is/was 230$ IF US price is $180 then you have a point, but not the one you are making as NQ is shooting themselves in the foot by. Again, your geographical location compared to the US is irrelevant in this. On second though the US price would be exclusive of salestax while the EU price would include 20%VAT. As I recall the payment goes through Xsola and they generally would do proper conversion as far as taxes go depending on where the license is sold to. EDIT: I raised this with both support and the community manager, let's see what comes back as it seems it may be something they need to/should look into.
  7. That is not a valid argument at all IMO. And I am making a distinction here between those who chose 'to be evil' and hunt/attack others without a reason but that they can. If there is conflict between organisations that is a completely different story. And it's not 'PVP space'. This is a good example of how I feel many seem to not grasp the concept here. DU is not about 'safe space and PVP space', it is not about I can't kill you there but I can here. I maintain the position DU is not about PVP, it is about using PVP elements to settle disputes when they can't be talked through and resolved without. That that will mean that some will choose to place themselves outside of society/community and go be pirates is fine, there will need to be counter to that though. Or are you saying I can just go out and shoot people because I have a gun without any form of consequence as long as I get away clean?
  8. At 1.1% rate US$230 transaction on CAD CC would some out at around CAD299 so you'd be worse of buying in US$ actually. The argument you live close to the border would really not have any relevance.
  9. Actually, it's not which is why the pro-PVP arguments here are mostly irrelevant. The topic here is that one should be allowed to choose a path of 'evil' in how he or she decides to develop and action his/her character. Frankly, there is nothing to counter that argument as it is completely valid. The point is that by choosing such a path you would need to face and expect consequences where I offered a possible option to balance that game play. You can't and NQ should not prevent or forbid anyone from choosing a certain play style while they should at the same time offer a counter or balance for the receiving end. It can't be that anyone choosing to pirate, rob and steal can get away with anything just because they can. There need to be consequences such as possibly putting risk against it like being attackable in safezones. What's been coming up here is risk vs reward, sure you need to take risk to get the rare stuff but at the same time, a pirate will need to accept the risk of losing free and safe access to markets and facilities in safe zones when choosing the life in game he/she does. How the PVP action/mechanic/method itself is implemented is mostly irrelevant to all this. That PVP should be full loot (related to what you carry on/with you) is not up for debate here and seem pretty much what most want as it makes sense. PVP should never be safe, for none of the parties involved.
  10. @maxxuser Ignoring unneeded and uncalled for language, you do realize this is a European company right? As a Canadian you would be paying in Euros converted to CDN$, how that affects your eventual cost would largely depend on how much your bank or CC company charges you. If they ask for considerable fees you might want to direct your question at them. If you're buying a €180 pack, you'd end up paying between 282 and 295 Canadian on Visa or Mastercard depending on conversion fees. If you're charged a lot more your bank or CC provider is charging you more than average on fees.. When he game releases it could be NQ will have more localized payement option, who knows. But expecting the world in htis regard during (very) early access is at best presumptuous IMO.
  11. We're not talking about adding elaborate rulesets. We are talking very specifically about not giving those who choose to aggress unprovoked unlimited access and/or safety in safezones. If you choose to be an outlaw or pirate there should be consequences. It can't be that placing youself outside of the community or civilisation you can just use that same community to hide.
  12. If implemented right it will mean it becomes increasingly risky for pirates to show themselves in safezones. Not saying these work well in EVE nor is that part of the discussion here.
  13. One mechanic I could see work would be a mix of the bounty, killright and wardec system from EVE. If a person aggresses you without an existing war between your org and his (including either not being in one), getting killed or having your poperty destroyed will give you a killright on the aggressor's life. This killright would be active anywhere, includung in safezones. You can either return the favour where the opposing party can't aggress in safezones unless aggressed first or you can sell the killright for a bounty
  14. There is several threads here on this and NQ have said that currently there is no planning for survival mechanics.
  15. Which is where you and I have a different opinion. Or at least define 'do whatever you want' differently.
  16. What concerns me is that it seems some consider PVP to be that unless you are in a safezone I am free to attack you, kill you, destroy your stuff or take it and I do not need a reason or justification for it. For me that realy goes against what I believe to be the very core of what DU is about. By following this doctrine you make the game like any other where it's all about me, myself and I.
  17. @CoreVamore I think you read my first comment wrong. I did not mean to say you are ignorant but was generally speaking.
  18. @Anopheles What you are saying is not really unique, there is many like yourself and that's fine.. You'd come across them in the threads already here. But anyway. since were here and were already getting the usual arguments on this here's my thoughts. That DU will have non-consensual PVP outside of the safezones is fine. That some seem to think that implies you should be allowed to just put up a blockade and shoot anything getting out of the safezone IMO is not. That some seem to think this means you can just gang up and attack/destroy anything or anyone who is doing anything outside the safezone is also not fine. DU should not become gank central. DU is a social, community and building game with PVP elements which I believe will be implemented to provide a means to resolve conflict when diplomacy fails. ARK style 'wait at the exit and shoot anything coming through' will very quickly kill the game and thus the content you seek. That said, from the little we know DU mechanics (for combat) really do not lend themselves well to EVE style ganks and will require actual organisation, command structure, planning and proper execution. I have yet to see any org that gives me the idea they can pull this off but some will try. No 'Wait for it ... press F1 to gank' in DU which is good. Personally I do not buy into the 'all elements of DU are created equal' as some do. I expect and believe DU will focus around community, building and expansion. With that comes the need to have the ability to go to war when you have to. War is not a goal in DU, it is a tool/a means to an end. As such combat, I believe, will be implemented in such a way that it serves the purpose it is intended for and by that definition it will not be a primary function/mechanic in DU. Some, like @Lethys will disagree because it is a focal point for them which I understand and that's fine obviously, we'll see how this develops. Frankly, I see way more opportunities and profit using PVP in other areas such as markets and economy. Large scale PVP conflict will often be triggered/set up by events benefiting the economy and the players active there, much like in EVE.
  19. Not sure what you are trying to say here that has not been addressed and discussed in several other threads, some still active. It might be better to join one of them instead of creating YA.
  20. There's no need to be intimidated but you should also not be ignorant about this. It's not about choosing the easy path, it is about organizing in a way that you can gather and manufacture quickly so you gain an edge over others. The only thing that may regulate this is the skilling system which we currently do not know much, if anything, about. When done right it should allow for a much more even playing field in the beginning but eventually the big organizations will get the edge in 'everyday' and 'basic' game play elements for obvious reasons.
  21. I'm still convinced none of the current organisations will come out on top once the game starts. I have yet to see an org with leadership that actually leads and manages the org instead of just playing house as 'I am the CEO of the org'. I've mentioned this before but there are several huge usergroups that will come into the game full force once it gets going. They have 'scouts' in the pre-alpha to work out the basics and will come in with serious numbers and a proper leadership/management structure once the game opens up. These are the orgs that will grab the power and control resources. Some of these are major corporations in EVE, others are huge online MMORPG communities tied to streamers and content creators.
  22. yeah, I'm getting off and away asap.. possibly get me some resources and then set up elsewhere.
  23. I can almost guarantee there will be a group of players who will try and lock down Alioth early on unless there are measures in place to prevent this. There are orgs/players who will consider that a perfectly acceptable and normal play style.
  24. What @GraXXoR said If one thinks the DU forums are busy or very active they likely have not been around other forums much.
  25. I would agree though that if DU turns into 'unless you are in a safezone we will try to kill you and destroy your stuff for no reason but because we can', it will not last long and NQ will need to ensure that does not happen. PVP in DU is not a main component in the vision NQ has, it is not going to be implemented as a pure 'pewpew anything for whatever reason' I hope and believe. Combat (which would be a better way wording for the 'PVP' mechanic in DU) will hopefully be available as a means for organisations to resolve conflict when all else fails. We will have to see how this goes, but the plethora of warmongering based orgs (as seen in their descriptions and recruitment text) does not bode well IMO even when I fully expect many of these to implode the moment the game actually starts once the 'leadership' of these finds it actually takes a lot of effort to run and manage an org. In the vision of NQ DU is a community and building environment before anything else. In that respect it's very much like Sid Meier's Civilization games where yes, combat and conflict is part of the game but it is not the main driver. It is a means to an end, not the (main) purpose of the game. So yes, if DU goes the route ARK did, where you basically can and frequently will be met with a firing squad the moment you step out of the spawning area, it will not end well and quickly. The warmongering PVP thirsty crowds need to realize that they only shoot themselves in the foot if they adopt these tactics.
