  1. We don't know what will be in the kickstarter, but i do wonder what the different tiers of the kickstarter will offer to the players who back the game.

There is a post about merchandise, maybe there is something in there that could help you with the curiosity, it has some idea of what is planned for the game in the lines of real life items but gained from a in real life shop so i don't know how much of it will apply to the kickstarter.

    nora,

  2. Hallo to all of you ;),

I must say this game sounds really interisting and I think that a variety of weapons would be cool as well.

For example that there are also swords, axes and stuff for main and off hand.

It would give the game a nice touch ;)

Welcome to the wonderful world of DU.

Unfortunately it has been confirmed that there will be no swords or shield as it requires a extra method of collision above simplistic player on player collision. I know that Planet Explorers has a way to do melee combat and create your own weapons but that game has a smaller scope that DU, and DU has a potentially infinite universe to contend with also.

The first weapon that you will have in the game will be the morpher that is attached to your arm, the basic building and mining tool, it will allow basic ranged combat. So starting off with a ranged weapon i see little point in having a melee style gameplay. Would be nice as a aesthetic choice to use melee weapons where they do no damage but look awesome. But i think the actual game play use of any melee weapons is a confirmed no for now.

But yeah, welcome. Please enjoy your stay :)

    nora,

  3. I've seen something like this before. Slaves probably won't be added into a game unless it's through role play. The reality is that since this is a Earth colony, it would be seen as cruel and disgusting to have slavery. However, as stated by a forum moderator, it might be possible for slavery to re-imerge after a period of time.

I think i recall this post that was made.

I'm sure it was stating that you can do whatever you like, you can be a master slaver or a business tycoon, but if it involves other people in the game you would have to have them willingly participate. The participation was pointed directly at the slavery aspect of the post too, so i don't think it is in the plans to have any actions that would restrict a players ability to play by another i.e. handcuffs or tying someone up ect.

Me personally i would hate the idea of being captured and forced to either sit in a jail or to just wait until someone killed me so i could respawn and continue playing. What am i supposed to do in the mean time, i want to play this game but this other person has captured me (for no reason) and won't let me play.

I'm sorry but i hope they don't put this in as i can see this being used to greif people and annoy them to the point of quitting.

If there was a system in place or a system that you can think of to get rid of the potential for abusing the whole capturing system, like acceptance popup that you either click yes/no to to agree to be captured or something, i may think differently, but currently looking at other games that have this i disagree with the idea of it.

    nora,

  4. Thanks for both those replies you both seem really nice and I hope make it onto the alpha! I can't wait to play the game and I understand the decision of having a subscription, just wondering, have they said anything about needing to eat or farming in the game?

There has been confirmed some survival aspects of the game, but we don't know what they are yet. It could be simply don't remove your helmet in space (confirmed to not be healthy) or it could be that you need to eat three meals a day and have exercise.

At this point we don't know very much about the very fine tuning of the game and know more about the overall fundamentals of it, like we can build ships out of voxels, there will be thrusters, that kind of information.

I do believe that i read about farming, but i can't remember if it was player written or Nyz written. But for a game this size it would be nice to have farming as a way of making both money and sustaining your ship and your crew :)

  5. From what I know there are anti-gravity engines commonly discussed for this game. The devs even have a concept drawing for a hovercraft engine found here. From the E3 trailer I can deduce that something like this is already implemented as you will see massive ships suspended in mid air hovering over a planet's surface.

I made this thread because I think that the hovercraft engine is cool but I don't think it should be the only means of mobility on a planet's surface. I would like to see trains and automobiles still in use as I feel like they could achieve certain tasks that certain ships couldn't. A maglev or a hyperloop train for instance would probably be very effective at hauling massive amounts of cargo or people safely, reliably, and quickly at a fraction of the cost of a full size cargo ship. Cars/Rovers would still be effective at moving individuals and small amounts of materials in a local area while being fairly inexpensive.

Plus the infrastructure of building roads and rails would really bring character to a planet or colonization. Hovercraft should definitely have their place but I think that there should be other forms of surface transportation.

I thought about wheels and rails a while back and I still don't know what my thoughts are.

Yes looking at it now i think that wheels will be great and making trains will be great, but will they actually be used other than for RP purposes ?,

If you want a train line that carries cargo from one position to another there is the option of the lua scripting and making a train line that way using the latest of the technologies available. The thing that makes me question the need for this is 'why use lesser tech' ? ..

If we can lua script everything easily and setting up a connection from point A to point B, would there even be a need for anything to do with trains or wheels?

When everything has the ability to fly, would you really use wheels? even the player character has a jetpack.

Don't take this post as negative, i'm on the fence about wheels and rails, i'm just trying to establish the purpose of putting them in other than to be tools for RP.

    nora,

  6. Welcome to the wonderful world of the DU forums :)

The game will be as difficult as you want to make it, don't worry about how hard things are going to be or how simple it will be, if you only desire to mine on the starter planet of Alioth you are more than welcome, but you are also capable of building a fully working and multi crew death star if you desire. The buildingas far as i believe is based around simple tools that you will be able to understand: Line, Circle, Square ect. so making shapes will not be difficult and the main parts of any ship are the elements that are predesigned by the devs so there is no complication there either.

The subscription i think is the best choice for this game, yes people sometimes don't like to spend money on a game each month which i can empathise with, but to have a long lasting game and a game that has countless updates making it better and better require funding. The more funding they get the better they can make DU :). There will be options like 'Plex' if you play the game enough that you can use in exchange for game time and i think other alternatives like free trials too.

The alpha will be available when the kickstarter is out, the current alpha team the you are probably seeing are selected people who have shown great participation in the forums and generating ideas from the very start. If you notice I don't have the alpha tag yet i have the most post, as it is not just about post count but about content and how well you do and how nice you are. The current folks in the alpha team are the ones that joined almost at the day the forums opened.

However that being said, you are always welcome to join the alpha through kickstarter, i don't think there will be any restrictions on who joins the alpha through kickstarter.

But yeah, Welcome to the forums, I hope you enjoy your stay :)

    nora,

  7. That's four questions... a few is usually considered three :).. naughty... haha

But to try and answer your questions:

    1) PC is the priority at the moment, consoles i don't think are planned and other OS's like linux and mac are a wait to see situation because i don't think we know.

    2) Camera will be locked for the most part in first person to help immersion in the game. There will be cameras though so you can view outside your ship while flying using them so if you want to have a external view of something you can set up a camera where you would like it. Third person i think is only planned depending on kickstarter goals and general community opinions.

    3) Multicrew systems we don't 100% know, but we all assume that the roles you play in multicrew ships will be down to your own choosing. If you want a ship with 6 engine rooms, build 6 engine rooms where you can have 6 people working. We don't know the indepths of the elements yet so we don't know what the true story behind any multicrew actions would be. It has been stated though that there will be advantages to having multiperson crews.

EDIT: I did have a quick spy around and found this link: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/01/30/multiplayer-ship-crew/

    4) There is a whole section of the internet dedicated to DevBlogs :)

    Link: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/06/10/dual-universe-at-e3-pc-gaming-show/

    nora,

  8. I like the Pay2Play model, so your whole argument fails under the first 6 words you said.

However i understand peoples concerns with pay to play and that a recurring payment to game can be a turn off, but i think that only applies to games that are not very good. Like someone said, you may pay for netflix or some other subscription based service because you enjoy them, same applies here. If you like the game, you'll be willing to pay the subscription. :)

Sorry to be the Devil's Advocate here, but still, I have to stand by Warframe here. Free to play, enormously popular, and almost a purely cosmetic cash shop (in that everything else can be acquired by playing). There is definitely a ridiculous grind here, which is why I quit, but it still remains a good game.

Also, i'm going to have to join astro as one of the Devils Advocates here and mention League of Legends. I've racked up a stupid amount of hours on that and that's F2P with cash shop. Still play it occasionally now. But that's more because the game is a exception to the rule of F2P games and is really good.

I do agree that the majority of F2P cash shop games i've played have been rubbish though.

    nora,

  9. I don't know if you've seen it or not, but there was a thread with very similar ideas as to you have proposed.

I will link it anyway just in case :)..

    Link: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/571-the-internet-in-game/

I like the idea of there being a internet in the game that either us players can manipulate or the devs. Way of getting communication around the game while still retaining the immersiveness of it..

    nora,

  10. Juicy :)

Do you know if there will there be any system for player designed/modified weaponry (ala from the depths)- or player-built turrets? It always irks me when voxel games have weapons - especially large weapons - that are simply animated models. The ability to design my own barbettes, or optimal weapon layout; or to have something as dynamic as having a traverse rotor jam, would be pretty cool.

Weapons, cannon, thrusters, cockpits ect are all under the classification of 'elements'. So far we know that elements are not going to be player designed and purely created by the dev team. However we do not know to the extent of scripting or customization that we will be able to do to the elements, we might be able to script different parts of the element to make them behave completely different, we might be able to turn a rapid fire turrent into a single shot rail gun.

We just don't know yet, but for the most part we know that elements are Dev design for now, maybe this might change in the future with more people wanting customization.

    nora,

  11. I understand this idea for the beginning of the game when currency is not very abundant, but i don't understand it in the long run.

Why not just use normal game currency ?

When people have the money to buy a ship off you, or the materials to build the ship anyway, I don't think that currency will be an issue and then you can just sell your services normally like any trade in the game.

If people can't afford to buy/ build a ship themselves why would they have the required currency/materials for your services?

In my opinion, doing this would limit your market to people that you know/trust or just guild members. I would choose to go with another person over yourself if they gave me the construct of equal value to the currency i gave them rather than a token that has a 'supposed' value when i hand it back into you.

It's a interesting idea, but i feel that it's an idea that's trying to get around the early problems of the game (lack of currency/materials) where everyone will be in the same boat and will be unable to purchase this token regardless and buy the time they are able to purchase it the alternative of just using normal currency will be available without the need for a 'trust' system.

    nora,

  12. Hi

As we know, game is based on construction and creative. So big part of this is variability, which must be same for every player. But at the same time, if we take "Space Engineers", there are huge amount of great MODs with new interesting items and designs. I fully understand it is almost impossible to introduce in MMO game, so I want to ask, will be option to play Single Player mode and have option to add own mods?

I don't interesting about SP as player, but I think, it is great opportunity for developers to find new ideas and get great designs from players.

I don't doubt, you are great developer team, but new ideas could come up from anywhere =)

    Thanks

    Archonious

Welcome to the Forums of DU,

If i understand your post correctly you are asking whether or not there is a single player section to the game. The answer is almost 100% no, there will be no singleplayer in the sense that you are the only person in the game at any time.

There is sections on the game that will have no contact to the other people playing, such as the virtual construct environment where you design and plan out constructs. But any normal gameplay that you will be expecting to do will be online and with other people completely MMO based.

I understand that good ideas can come from being a single player (when you can spawn in anything) but there is nothing stopping you building anything in game whilst other people are playing also, the only limiting factor is time. I myself would prefer to build something great knowing that i had to work for it.

Mods on the other hand, I'm not 100% sure, I'm sure someone else will have the answer to that, but as i can't recall anything to do with mods i'm going to to assume either there are not going to be any or it's not been asked. But like i say someone else will have to answer that question for you.

But yeah, Welcome to the DU forums, i hope you enjoy your stay :)

    nora,

  13. I thought I could find the answer somewhere in the forums, but I haven't yet: How can one apply to test the Alpha?

I would love to be a part of the development of this MMO.

Welcome to the forums of DU, unfortunately the alpha is not out yet but planned for early 2017 alongside kickstarter, and that is the only access to any alpha that we are aware of at the moment.

Not even the alpha team members have any access to the game till then, and getting into that team depends on good behaviour, forum participaton and basically if the devs decide to have you or not.

However I'd like to point out that having your first post asking for alpha participation isn't really standing you in good stead to be placed in the alpha team.

So far it's the major contributors to the forums ideas and gameplay ideas that have been noticed.

So if you really want to get alpha, participate in the forums and offer constructive feedback on subjects already posted and in general be a nice person here, even if you don't get alpha, I'm sure you can make a few friends for the game in the mean time :)

But yeah, welcome to the forums, I hope you enjoy your stay.

P.s. this post also applies to any new people joining the forums purely in search of a alpha of the game, sadly at this moment there is not one.

    Nora,

  14. I like how my scheme to gather loads of information on the game without having to do research failed. Oh well. Glad to meet all of you and I hope to continue seeing what everyone has to offer as a community.

Don't worry about it, i tried the same thing when i was new and failed also. Best place to start with the information is the devblogs though, then just browse the forums all the time and you will get caught up just like the rest of us :).. Just got to spend a little time, more time the better though, although that might just be me who like more time on here ;)

    https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/06/10/dual-universe-at-e3-pc-gaming-show/

    nora,

  15. More feedback!

I tried to watch that but both the fact that he undersold DU's single shard gameplay and that I couldn't hear the word 'Guur' instead of 'Go' again i decided to stop watching.

I don't understand how people could compare this to NMS though, this is NMS but has all the point that NMS didn't have added into it and made better.

    Potentially infinite Universe - Check

Countless Planets - Check (Same as NMS already)

Countless other players in the same area - Check

    Limitless construction ability - Check

i could list a bunch more but you get the point, i think DU will blow NMS out of the water when it comes out. :)

    nora,

  16. Welcome welcome. Step right in, mind the step, and enter the wonderful world of Dual Universe.

*Not responsible for addiction, anxiety, or any health problems that may arise from constantly browsing and refreshing the forums to find more information.

Yeah, I can back astro up on this, You browse the forums at your own risk.. I myself have nothing to add about the seductiveness of the forums and the information that is contained within them... :)

  17. I think they do intend to, they will not have it for alpha and maybe not even for early beta. But I expect them to have it for launch. But remember thats a long way away.

They are trying to avoid having a 3rd person and having the majority of the game in First person i think, they realise that building will be easier when you are in third person, but as far as i am aware they are not trying to do anything with third person at all yet, maybe like DD says post launch or later on in the kickstarter campaign maybe. But as i know it there will only be the first person view.

correct me if i'm wrong though :)

    nora,

  18. Hi i'm nora,

I AM THE FORUMS and the forums are me, we are one in the same.

I would say that you have the same kind of hobbies and interests as myself, programming, computers ect. so theres nothing much more for me to add, but I will add my favourite post so far though,

    Link: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/

Other than that, welcome to the wonderful world of DU, i hope you do enjoy your stay here and i hope to see you in the game :)

    nora,

  19. I'd just like to point out about the curves and such that you mention are actually possible. There is a screenshot of the tools being used inside the devblog showing a almost perfect circle being created, so lines, squares and circles, I'm unsure if you require any other shapes to make anything you require.

What kinda of things would you think are impossible to make that you can't make out of the proposed tools?.. and what tools would you like to be added maybe?

    voxel-tools.jpg?w=630

    nora,

  20. We have a selection, but like Astro I've just had my dinner and am currently to lazy to fine the right ones so i'll just randomly pull some from my belt of forumness :)

    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/480-building-under-water/

    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/501-water-world/

That being said i would go as far to say that you will be able to build underwater, as Nyz has confirmed that there will be liquid water, and water of different varieties. The only thing we don't know if how the water will be affected with physics.

So if you dig a hole we don't know yet how the hole would fill back up with water, will it be like minecraft pattern based filling or will it be more realistic and flow into it from the source.

The other things are things like pressure and buoyancy, will the water have these?.. we just don't know yet.

Nya has said that they are currently working on water and how to implement it but there is nothing that can be confirmed or discussed outside the dev's circle at the moment, but i'm sure there will be something to do with water. They wouldn't make multiple types of water without there being a use or it ;)

    https://twitter.com/dualuniverse/status/742466438619926528

    nora,

  21. I'm new. Looking forward to this game. That is, if I have all the requirements for it.

So far there are no known requirements available not even a speculative machine spec or anything, so it might be a while before you know if you meet the requirements or not.

That being said, with a game that is going to be as big and as good as what DU is looking to become, i would imagine that you would need a powerful machine to run it. All the resources needed to walk on a planet that has every other person playing the game on it all at once would take either a big server or a big computer, or both.

I wouldn't worry just yet though, there is still 6 months to the kickstarter at least, so even longer for any alpha or beta to come out to test whether you can run it or not, i hope you can though :)

Also, Welcome to the Forums of DU, i hope you enjoy your stay :)

    nora,

  22. I started the thread already assuming you won't have to deal with a model even remotely close to KSP. It would more likely break gameplay more than adding value to it.

I only assume that because of the teaser the devs have shown us. It would be a different game than that they are showing us. I mean, you don´t want to deal with orbital mechanics in this kind of game, same as you don´t want voxel building in Rogue System.

Im just curious about how are things going to work when it comes to placing satellites in "orbit" and a bunch of things only development will bring to attention.

What i said in a different thread is that you have lua.

We don't know of the limitations of Lua, but if you wanted something in orbit to travel around the planet (if the game doesn't have orbits like ksp) you can simply lua code it and have it fly around following a set of instructions instead of being in a true orbit.

However that being said, like what the others said, there will be anti-grav engines allowing you to just float, so orbit mechanics might not be there for the player creations maybe, but we don't know anything about how the planets and stars will work.

I hope there is orbital mechanics, but not quite as detailed as what ksp is, that's maybe pushing the boat a little bit. If it can be done i would love it, but with anti-grav it seem a little redundant.

    nora,

  23. Welcome to the DU family CodeGlitch! It's becoming a prolific one at that. Take a look through the forums and devblogs...I suggest starting by clicking the banner in my signature. You may find a home there, I don't know :)

    Enjoy!

P.S. Nora, don't you dare say anything. :D

    Does this count ?....

I didn't even do anything and i'm being told to be quite... :o

But yeah, Welcome to the forums, I wouldn't mind seeing some of your work if you have a development of a game similar to that of DU, would be nice to see more games like DU.. Nothing bad comes from a little healthy competition, :)

I hope you enjoy your stay in DU
