  1. Sounds like a good group to join.. more research and expiration with a little military thrown in... but the whole America thing would be an issue for me (damnit) as I'm from the UK and full time working each day.. *sad face*... Maybe I can 'part-join' and be like a external researcher, going about as normal would in my little vessel and bring back the good for trade in supplies and cash
  2. This... all of my this for that... I can't remember what game it is, but there is a game out there (payday2) I think that has zero% accurate hit detection indicators and it annoys me beyond reason. I know it's not locking, but kinda related I think.. I just thought of the same issue in 3D space not just 2D sidewalk. Knowing where your enemy is in space I think is a crucial part of dog fighting and needs to be done properly and easy to see where they are... unless maybe stealth technologies where you have a reduced signal.. but missile lockoing.. yes please!
  3. Ok... what is Shores of Hazeron and how do I know now about it?.. thought I was up there with knowing space games, but now I feel silly is Shores of Hazeron follows similar game ideas as DU...
  4. I'm on my phone so can't give a detailed response... bit your idea could also work for space battles and asteroids (if no scavengers get there first).. a way to reduce the load in the server having countless ships just floating about.... turn them into asteroids... Obviously if they are 'npc' purpose built for scavenging then that's a different story... There could be a bunch of different ways to get around both issues... but again, on phone so would even try to post anything big... I like your thinking though... +1 when I get to desktop

    Moving a planet

Ahh see, you're giving away your age now, DevisDevine.. I remember when SG1 was doing it, never watched any Atlantis, but SG1 was awesome i thought.
  6. I was thinking more of the movei Virus from 1999, movie about AI that just kept replicating and getting stronger trying to kill the humans... Scared me to death when I was 11, but looking now it's laughable ha... Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEFf78HegJg&ab_channel=MovieTrailerGraveyard
  7. Pffft... a kill switch.. Why would you want to spoil the fun, just let them go. You could end up with an entire planet solely populated by robots and if you tried to land they would get you...
  8. Hi and i see it's your first post. Welcome to DU, enjoy your stay. Funnily enough I was just reading through some DevBlogs and this one might interest you: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/09/18/lua-script-and-distributed-processing-units/ There is another couple of posts about the place, but that is the main LUA one I think. There was a quote from Nyz that pointed out that the current possibilities of LUA and DU would allow you (if you have a good enough home made LUA script) to produce self-replicating AI.. so basically AI will be able to do everything given that you can script them properly.. Hope that helps, if I find anything more on my travels through the forums i'll come back and edit...
  9. Wouldn't even have to be for falling damage or anything.. Would it not just be coded already?.. as everything is created by voxels (or elements) would the devs not already be coding in something to handle being hit by voxel constructs? Space ships are voxel constructs and I hope that if i get hit by one of them a 1mph it will not hurt, but if i get hit at 100mph i'll die.. Would they not only need to apply the same code base to the weapons used ?.. I have very limited dev experience, but maybe there is some method that would allow for them to create swords and bows and shields and such..... It's just i don't want them, but i'm curious about how they would do it..
  10. How will resources be replenished on a planet? Given that some organisations are going to be very large with countless people joining and most possibly all having the same 'home planet', what happens if they just continuously mine, say if you are part of a mining organisation thats only task is to gather and sell materials?.. Will the planet eventually run out of resources and become a barren waste-land with nothing of value left, or will there be a mechanic for resources to respawn? I know that SE has planets and a finite amount of resources (unless infinite asteroids) and that works well, but that isn't a MMO and you can always just make a new save if you are lacking any or find the layout of them inconvenient. But what happens when areas run out of resources in DU ?.. It's not just an option of starting the map again as it's an mmo, and the chances are that the areas closest to Alioth will become very drained very quickly as everyone spawns in the same location. Is it just the hope that there is enough resources to go around for the duration of the game or is there a plan for what happens? I've read through plenty DevBlog's and posts yet haven't found anything concrete about this, and it's both interesting and worrying at the same time. In years to come after the release will new people have to barter and trade for the resources to leave Alioth because they are all gone? On the one hand you have to think about realism, you can't just 'replenish' resources in real life, you have what you have and thats it, no more, use it all and we're screwed. This gives a value to materials in depleted zones more so than in material lush zones, adding extra layers to the whole marketing trading system. On the other hand you have the requirement for people to be able to build and gather when they want or if they are new, or if they have just lost their last ship or base building, if there is no resources and you've strangely decided to settle on a world because its empty of players how do you rebuild ? I'm not even 100% sure how we are going to gather resources. Yes I know that the morpher sucks up ground and trees and such and turns it into usable voxels, but it's not been stated that that will be the way to gather resources like iron or copper ect, will they be like dirt and just be scoopable up like dirt (Think SE) or will they be chunks that you 'attack' and will eventually run out, which could be how things replenish also (Think WoW, but maybe different to the classic 'node').. There is a lot of things I'd like to know, and maybe I've just not got to that section of the forums/DevBlogs yet, but i'd like to know, if anyone has any information go ahead please.. Also, what about collecting water and liquids, in the lore it was said that Sohan took the yellow oil like material from the (swamp?) and was going to use it as a fuel source. Does this mean that we can gather liquids to be used as fuel, or coolants or hydraulics maybe?.. Would this allow us to create massive man made lakes or moats around our creations, waterfalls even maybe with some tweaking of elements to scoop and spit out. Would there be anything to allow us to mix liquids together to make new liquids, and for that matter are we able to mix materials to make alloys (i remember reading something but unsure of the answer).. As both of them options give the player a kind of research ability and to be able to play around with different materials in different ways to create new materials. I know there is a furnace or forge as they are in some images on the websites, but would we be able to forge alloys by combining different materials and quenching them in different liquids maybe?... Hmm i'm going to stop there.. I kind of lost track of how much i wrote and could continue on for days asking questions that lead into other questions... Like the one i've just thought of as MAGNETS?.. will there be magnetism or electromagnetic devices to give out EMPs and the like ? Right stopping now.... must stop typing... but.... can't.... help me........... EDIT (Should have stopped typing) : Found a nice link in the depths of the forums https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/43-a-take-on-gathering-interaction/

    Moving a planet

You move my stargate i'll move you...... back to Alioth... through a RN...
  12. Ahh you tease me kind sir... that's just enough information to get me excited but not enough to satiate my hunger for answers!.. damn you sir... damn you. ..... or madam....

    Moving a planet

Well even if it doesn't work for giving momentum to a object it will still make a very interesting weapon..
  14. Well i know personally i'd like to be able to just fly off and do everything solo on a desolate moon somewhere if i'm required, being sneaky sneaky my reliance upon other people will more than likely be restricted to only a select few. But still I don't think any gameplay should be restricted to organisations and should be open to anyone, given they have enough time and resources to do it... (Unless of course the actually activity is something only organisations do obviously)
  15. Thank god it's not charges and it's just a matter of powering it and waiting for it to be fully powered... Good read nonetheless, and how.. how do you keep finding me things that i haven't read, i'm a good 70% through the DevBlogs and you still pick a one i've not gone to yet...
  16. Laser Weapons run off energy though....
  17. No.. Just no, all of my No to that.. How would this remove the unfairness?... This would essentially restrict new/single-player people from an entire section of the game. You shouldn't be forced to join an organisation, you should still be able to do everything single-player, but it just takes a hell of a lot longer.. EDIT: unless you mean NPC organisations..
  18. To be honest, I haven't read anything about water yet, only land and materials. I do hope they have water, space engineers is a little immersion breaking when you have solid water, but then again adding water means you need buoyancy, airtight ships, oxygen sources, ect.. I hope it does have water and i hope it is done right...
  19. If you want full on life support systems your going to have to have airlocks and the like.. Oxygen on the other hand wouldn't have a 'area' where the oxygen is, it would just have a room full of oxygen that supplies x amount of people... maybe thats what you meant.. This would require sealing parts of your ship off to allow airtight areas and biodomes on planets that don't have oxygen and a means to keep creating oxygen. I like how Space Engineers does it's oxygen for the most part, if it was similar to that i wouldn't be upset with it. But now your talking about life support, what about radiation, heat, cold, hunger, gravity (i know gravity has been talked about)... what about all the other ways you need to support yourself... ?
  20. That's a really really old thread, and I would much more like to have the conversation remain in here because anything said in there could be completely incorrect and just leave to incorrect assumptions. But worth a read nontheless, some of the idea in it i agree and disagree with. Like the RN's having charges and if you die to many times you end up back at the arkship... no.. just.. no... if i'm on the outskirts of the universe exploring and get bounty hunted all the way back to the arkship (meaning i've lost my ship and anything i build till i get back there)... it would make me want to quit... Think of how big a infinite universe can be, and how far away you could get from your base if you respawn at an arkship after being bounty hunted... that's a sure-fire way to p**s off a person to the point of not coming back...
  21. I hope they don't have swords and bow and such.. It's a futuristic game, so it should be futuristic weapons. To start off the 'morpher' on your arm that you start with is said to be a starting weapon, so this does away with the need to craft starting weapons to get yourself ahead, and since you can mine everything and fabricate it, going straight to guns shouldn't be too hard to believe. Other than cosmetic / for fun, I don't want to see anything to do with bow/swords.. I've just landed on a alien world after being asleep for 9800 years on a spaceship.....I know, i'll craft a sword... Just ruins it for me..

    Moving a planet

To be fair the lore is kinda strict on the survival of earth, I read all the lore today so unless i've misinterpreted it, it's quite clear... Your idea for the warp weapon sounds very interesting, like a new style railgun, instead of speeding up a object to stupid speeds and watching it destroy everything.. you just warp it at the enemy.. This puts me to thinking about 'warp bombing' capital ships with a hand full of smaller ships.. Warping directly into/through big ships to get around their shields... It's going to be interesting when we get more information about how warping is going to work
  23. Although i hope they are not 'too in a row' then what hope does the community have to shape the game and help make it better?
  24. On my travels around the information present I haven't actually seen any specifics on this matter. What I do know is that they are wanting to make anything possible for the player, emergent gameplay or however its called, so it's not about if there is going to be piracy or smuggling because i'm going to see to it that there is.. it's more of a matter of what tools they are going to give the players to do it. Like: - How do we board ships? - Can ships be boarded during FTL? - Is there going to be FTL restricting devices like a warp net? - Is there going to be stealth technologies (not invisible but signal reducing ect) ect.. ect.. you get the picture. I agree though, it would be nice to have more information on the topic, as it will effect alot of how i play the game give what tools are available.
