  1. The low startup is quite low. Maybe they have had past funding or some money before. Maybe this was more of a risk assessment to see if people will fund it and if so they would keep going with the current plans.

I was a bit confused with that as well Hunter. When I heard Ship vs Ship stretch goal I was like I assume it's some sort of Arena thing but everyone said no so I was like damn.. I feel it's risky. For me I'm fine with it but for the rest of the Space Dwellers who been waiting on decent Elite/SC game etc.. How will they react.

  2. I love to have this but even more be able to maybe balance shields on the fly but it could be considered too cheap since you could have a Lua Script just do it for you. But I love to have this anyways. I can just see some balance issues when it comes to Lua doing it all for ya.

  3. I feel like the core is the core. I'm not going bother voting in that confusing poll.

But the point of it anyways is that you protect it. You tend to put it in the center of the ship and it has the most shielding / protection possible.

Do we even know if ships even blow up and such like can you shoot away part the ship and make it to the core or if it's just pure basics RPG stats like hull, armor, shields, etc and it does not really matter?

  4. In a sandbox MMORPG like this if they did not add DAC then they would of been sadly stupid.. (No Offense).

Sandbox game like this people are going to sell things for RL money or use RL money to buy things on way or another period. It always happens in MMORPG's but the more sandbox features they have the more this becomes common from my many years of experience.

Rather then having Bob Rob Jr. Taking profits away from NQ it can now be controlled by NQ at least and they can profit from it. Not only that I have not read much on the DAC but they tend to be $5 or so more expensive then a normal direct subscription cost.

This is a better method by far. No matte what people will buy/sell with RL money. This way less people get scammed, NQ benefits from it.

It would suck for you to drop out due to a system that is in place for your security and mine.

  5. Wow, never realized the complexities in game design.  I'm just thinking what type of computer system I'll need to run the game. Any advise?

At this point any educated guess would be a wrong guess. Being nothing more then a pre-alpha (tech demo) there would be so many performance issues and bleeds and things they are changing every day that there would be no point in educating a guess as next week it would change.

  6. I love threats and effects. But we also have to be a bit real on the fact that we don't want 99% of the people to die to to environmental hazards. I think effects causing issues with the ships would be more fun. Causing it to slow down, cause power issues, intermittent issues, higher drains, etc.

  7. Also there is a massive difference between DU and Eve where in Eve you fly ships. You don't have to worry much but of course better training helps. With DU it's a FPS game... If you have a skill to allow the user to run then it beyond silly. Where Eve if they had Run they would for sure have a skill to train run lol. As a FPS / Third person style game you can't expect and I really hope that they don't limit normal interactions too much or will all be spending first few months training how to walk or walk faster haha.

  8. I can also imagine that the tech behind the server architecture is copyrighted?

Like JC says they are more like a tech development compagny. And since he has developed new tech to handle this amount of people on an unprecedented scale...would make sense that it is patented/copyrighted/proprietary. Not sure wich one is apt in this situation.

Not only this they might be using software that they pay for. I don't know if many MMORPG's (modern none east side the world) still use MSSQL but that is one of the many and I mean many things that might require legal licenses etc.. Not only that they might be using libraries on the server side that are illegal to distribute to others.

  9. I love things like Scanners, Radar's, Sensors, Probes, etc. I know we can fire off Prove I don't know much info about them besides being able to warp to them? It be cool though if you own a moon or live in a system or hell out of a system randomly somewhere in the darkness that you can setup some sort of decent sensor net that can alert your entire organization if events.

  10. Yeah I mean if people don't want to see an every skilled man it's time to tell them to play WoW or something. Sadly I hate non every skilled man games but guess what? That is old and out of the window. More and more games are removing classes and letting people be every skilled like old MMORPG's how they should be. Though if it's time based caps I would not be mad.

    Example:

Lets say there is 10,000 skill levels in total and each skill can be trained to 10 levels for fun so 1,000 unique skills. Maybe each skill has exp of say 100, 1000, 10000, etc. I would understand if we got an allotment of say 100k exp a month or something that style... Each month it expands further and further.

This system it means if you slept in and forgot to change your skill training you don't suffer much and if you are new to the game you could catch up slowly overtime with maybe accelerated training (slightly) or some other active training method. Maybe if you are within that months quota targeting fine then you can't use those active training features.

We can't just do another Second Life and Punish new players and see hey bud you only need 10mil sp's.... Because that is discouraging and one the reasons Eve has not actually grown much but maintained it's population and 90% of the population if not more is pure vets / alts.

  11. To create a new safe zone, I like the idea of restoring a ruined arkship (over throwing down a token). I also like the idea that it not only takes resources to restore it but also to keep it functional e.g. by providing a boatload of power.

I would expect the number of arkships per planet would be limited to one or two and never a guarantee. Though they would be easy to spot due to their size... Hmm maybe they could be buried in some cases so prospectors might inadvertently stumble onto one. "You'll never guess what I found under my farm."

Expanding on the capturing idea, as long as the arkship is powered it should not be able to change hands... But if the power supply runs dry, another organization could swoop in.

    Just an idea.

I could never see it being more then 1 only because I assume the possibility chances of 2 crashing into the same planet would be impossible mathematically :P

But I do like the ideas of finding them but having to activate them again. The powering up I'm not sure how that will work out would there be a bonus to the people who provide it power? Could the more power you give the bigger the safezone expand?

  12. I love to see some auto mining for sure. I love to see some basic industrial stuff as well for processing and such. But I hope it does not become a script war as well. I know the scripts are being run client side and it suck if in the end if the idea of the game is having 100 accounts afk automating mining / processing all the time. This will end up turning into having more then 1 account and ugh. NIGHTMARES :P

  13. I feel like losing the inventory is suitable. I think being able to go back and grab the inventory is fair (or looted outside safezones for others). I don't think losing credits is fair and I don't think credit sinks for say preventing memory loss insurance and clone insurance is worth while. I think it's just a bit too much and silly. I feel also when you deal with a FPS style game you screw around you have fun you explore. Being dumb and dying will happen. Being punished by say skill rollbacks and such I think is a bit over the top.

    Just my personal input :)

  14. I'm not for orbital mechanics myself. It's just too taxing on math and of course players. I talk to a lot of people on my friends list who have kerbal space program and most them have never even gotten a proper orbit... They just enjoy building ships and watching them blow up.

The point is that such a complex feature is just too much.

Not only that but even if it were to be added they are so far into the future ignoring engine tech the computer would do all the work. Meaning leaving a planet might take an extra 30+ Minutes for the computer to do all the work trying to leave.

I think the idea is not to be as silly as No Man Sky and blink from the planet so fast but also not to be as slow as say Space Engineers and that was does not do orbital mechanics just gravity.

Trust me I love the idea but I also see in a large scale of things outside of calculations for the servers and such just the sheer amount of players it would turn off would be devastating.

  15. Don't get me wrong I love private shards (running them that is) but it's not going to happen for this game. The tech level of things and scaling you would need a decent backend infrastructure plus the monthly fee is not 1 to 1 server costs. It's also for supporting the games future in new content and constant updates. If people run free servers it means the developers are losing money.
