"Scrap Mechanic" style, unfortunatly it has already been asked couple times, and strongly refused by NQ

I honestly never played Scrap Mechanic. Interesting concept though.

Thing is, you did say that, to me in discord before I removed my discord channel. You were the one who gave me a key to play right after you said "Ignore us old bitter players".

I have since then taken all your advice and paid for an actual subscription.

In just one post we learn that

    1. toxicity is a binary designation
    2. you are the arbiter of truth and reality
    3. old farts are toxic
    4. you represent newbies (presumably by election)
    5. ...... :)

Jokes aside, okaaaay? If you notice, I generally don't talk about players when I'm criticizing DU, I talk about the game. It is game design that facilitates, encourages, and provides incentives for certain actions, even if the said game design is unintended or not apparently purposeful. Blaming people for playing a certain way in a sandbox is counter to the sandbox. Calling players toxic doesn't help, it's quite embarrassing actually, it usually means that when someone throws an "fu" at you, you are too weak to throw "fu" x 10 back at them (expression shamelessly stolen from a Siberian intellectual). Not all newbs are the same, they are here for different reasons. Most people here are very helpful to them if they need help figuring things out. Sly remarks about "admitting x" and "you know it but don't want to admit it" silliness doesn't help either. Those things are generally summarized in a term "not an argument". If you have one, provide it so we can discuss the argument. Discussing players is a slow burn to garbage drama.

I can fully understand where you are coming from and I understand what you are saying. But I'm not blaming, I'm re-hashing what others have said to me, as well as what I have personally seen with my own eyes.  Which is why I pointed this fact out to you, by showing at least one example. Go to the discord, and you'll see nothing but "bitter older players" as they themselves have called themselves. They are proud of this fact. It's no secret. And THAT in of itself IS the problem.

I can appreciate the aesthetic desire, but wheels and SE's clang-engines can stay in SE. Better to just have an element that produces some manner of speed-controlled wheel-hologram, and have elements that adjust their location/facing as a specific feature of that element (or again with holograms that produce the appearance of movement simulating the desired look).

Well with that logic, you might as well remove trees and grass, oh and engines, they all serve no purpose other then asthetic. Avorion does this very idea, they use nothing but blocks for all the parts of their ship. So with your logic, you might as well remove everything aesthetic and just have blocks all over this game.

No thanks, that game exists already.

  5. Just to let you know, you are the reason I started to play this game. You have deeper insight then most of the people I have seen comment on this forum. And I would hate to see you go, but I do understand what you are trying to say.

Of everyone here, and from a newbie's point of view, whom has lurked this forum for a while now, you are the one I respect the most.

    Live Long my friend.

Ahem... and there we have it... blame the players, not the game! Best strategy ever.

It's a fact, you get rid of the toxic players, then the other players can have fun. It's simple. You are misinterpreting truth from your  reality.

Heck, even @blazemonger admitted to a few of us that there are bitter older players. Difference between you and him is that he admits he is one of those bitter older players, that has been toxic. So I call it how I see it. No strategy involved.

Of all the old timers who play this game, he is the only one I respect. He has also been the most helpful to us newbies. And He is honest in how feels about the game.

Someone built a small city (including monorail) in this game, it is not as different from Second Life as one would imagine.  It just has a bit more focus on actual gameplay (which feels odd to say considering the state of this game).

You are right about the territory claiming, we just disagree about the solution.  There are Safe Zones in this game, so all that will happen regardless.  Safe Zones will sprawl or have no vacancies for new players.  (This is often addressed with instancing or additional servers but... single shard).  The solution in this game should be Rent/Taxes with progressive rates based on how much you own.

Your method requires a full loot type of PVP.  If someone can lose their land and everything they built on it, nobody would  build anything beyond a mine and walls of turrets. Excepting a few large orgs, perhaps.  Everything else would be built in safe zones.  They could eliminate safe zones, but that would basically kill the game.

    This +1

Finally, someone who understands the real problem here. And to add to this, the reason people come and go, is because of the old timers who are not saying anything constructive to help the devs, they are basically being toxic players that run off the new players. I have seen a lot of new players come and go, and their reason ? Toxic Players. It has become a vicious circle.

We need constructive criticism to work with the devs. IF those with an agenda hate the game, I quote what I saw a few other players say  " move on ".

  8. Agreed, NPCs are in just about all games now. It helps fill the need that a lot of PVPers want.

I'm not a PVPer, I like building and crafting, but that doesn't mean I want to see PVP gone. So if NPCs will help keep the PVPers around, then in my opinion it should be added.

Aliens, animals, man-eating plant life to name just some ideas.

There is a warp problem? I'm serious here, what is the problem with Warp?

If you mean that warp endpoints are currently in safezones which will be removed once Planet side PVP starts, how is that a problem?

    This +1
Once they remove the planet side safety net, the PVP begins. There will be no safe zones. So Warp will not be an issue.

  10. Screens with SVG / HTML are a real problem. Agreed.

But I wanted to add to Beakcon's suggestion about paid storage. I agree, it's a good idea.

But I also believe that allowing players to self host their own markets would be even better. And remove all of the NQ made markets. This would alleviate a lot of the abandoned ships all over the current market places.

Allowing the players to create a market hub at our own base, which would allow us to have scematics brought to our containers there. Think of schematics as email / printed paper. All other physical objects must be delivered / picked up.

EDIT : This also gives rise to a real need for space stations, to have the ability to turn that space station into a trade hub, which is player owned and ran. And with space stations that have shields etc etc, this leads to the ability of PVP for those begging for it.

  11. As a new player, I am enjoying the schematics and have built up a lot of them. The sancturary is what helped pay for a lot of the ones I have. Tuts too.

Once I realized about the free shuttle between alioth and sanctuary moon, I knew what I wanted to do in this game, which is factory building, one of my fave things to do in this game. Others like PVP, so I don't mind the grind to make the ships that PVPers want to use.

With that said...  Along the way, I found some things that didn't quite make sense or didn't work out right, so I submitted ideas, problems and suggestions to help out the game overall. And has been well recieved by the NQ staff. That is the whole point of ALPHA / BETA access, to find things to report to the devs about.

Back when we were playing 8-16 hours a day we toyed with the idea of putting up MTI billboards on all the Sanctuary spaceports that told new players (Get in, Plop Down  your free TU, Get out!, You're welcome -MTI).  You are better off deleting your free TU and using that time to mine surface ore or unclaimed tile ore on Alioth until you have the money/resources gathered to get away from there even.

Sanctuary is a trap.  Long ago my bud and I wasted our whole first week there till we got evacced to Madis (Thank you Thunderblaze) and never looked back.

I used Sancturary Mooon to mine the rock, gather up the money I need.. then take the FREE shuttle to alioth where I could then start a real base to start the game with.

Honestly, NQ would need to work really hard to go FTP because micro-transactions require a carefully considered game design to balance properly.

It's important to have a great hook that invests the player and pulls them toward a MT -- right now, FTP players would follow the same pattern as paid beta subs. They'd stay long enough to litter their speeder somewhere.

"Getting more players" isn't the only concern, it's keeping them. They got a lot of new players during beta's initial launch, but they couldn't retain them. Some paid for months or even a year and didn't play for more than a day or two. They'd rather throw away their money than keep trying; that says something about new player UX.

If they went free-to-play tomorrow, they'd get many new players...but only to lose money and clutter the servers. There's nothing compelling new players to stick around -- this game's new player UX gets worse over time, not better. Their MT conversion rate would be abysmal -- they'd have players, but not revenue.

DU doesn't actually need new players right now. It needs a solid new player UX and a way to retain those players. You can't monetize players (FTP or subs) if they can't get past the early stages of the game.

    This + 1

This is probably the best well thought out comment I have read.

  14. One thing that would help is if we had full Talents. As it stands, I'm having to skill up the talents in order to eventually test what needs to be tested and that takes time.

From my understanding DU is about human beings interaction.

On purpose there are no NPCs, compared with other games in the same setting.

So there are possibilities for people who want to engange in the trucking business.

That I can understand. It's why I added player created drones as an added content idea. So even if NQ didn't want to create NPC drones, players still could. But it's just an idea.

This is true. To me it just feels JC sees stuff like industry and the economy in games like EVE and like the idea/wants to recreate that in DU but has no idea of/eye for everything that goes on in games like EVE to make industry/economy work. And a _lot_ of that is related to the content CCP creates and keeps creating to keep the players that use that content, and thus are at the core of what makes EVE tick. NQ/JC seems to want all that but not want to put in the effort to create that game that sets up the vision, they just want the players do do all of  that but then stop short of actually providing the tools to do that.

SE has tools for players to create elaborate missions and scenarios, it works well. So well in fact that Keen actually includes scenarios made by players in the core game. IF NQ would provide such tools then maybe their idea would work. But they would need another year at least to get all the core mechanics in the game and then wil need more time to get all of that balanced, polished and ready before having timet o work on such tools.

    This + 1

This is exactly why I made the New Content thread. Asking for pistons and motors and such so that we players can have more, "tools" as you put it, for us players to create more in world content. I totally agree with you on this.

  17. People have been putting quotes in games for over 3 decades that I can personally remember. ( Yes I'm old. )  This is the first time I have seen someone complain about it.

If you are asking to stop quoting famous people, then you need to tell all the ads on TV and Radio stations and Memes and... well the whole internet to all stop quoting people there too.

Botton line, there is nothing wrong with quoting famous people who actually said those things.

  18. They are still trying to make the game. So it's too soon for them to make something like this. The post above this one, in fact, shows one example as to why they should wait, the SVG / HTML tags might get removed. So adding it would be a waste of time. So a knowledge base website is too soon to build right now.
