Because the game suggests that you can do it.

    - JC said you can become a pirate
    - Aphelia says in the tutorial that you can become a pirate.

This is not a test of strength. This is about enrichment. And some emulate that.
But nice analogy with seal clubbing. Has nothing to do with it. Maybe next time you'll use the pirates from the Caribbean as an example. No, not the film.

This is not my first rodeo, and it's not yours either.  We all know what this is going to turn into.  There may be a few 'pirates from the Caribbean'  going for the big score, BUT you know damn well that's going to very few.  As soon as surface PVP opens up, it's seal clubbin-time bois!.  The griefers are going to be out in force.  Everyone knows it. You can spin it anyway you want on the forums for brownie point, but in no way, shape, or form is surface PVP going to 'pirating'.  It's going to be full on 'hunt the weak for fun'.

Any attempt, from anyone, to try and turn that into something else is being stupid.  This game has managed to attract the worst kind of gamers finding any way to grief other players, and they will not disappoint when surface PVP opens up.

Yet you are the one crying.  Its hilarious. So then, what should we do, only queue for arena pvp?  If not then you definitely the one butt hurt crying over a video game.  "Oh no I died so I'm gonna cry about how unfair it was". Grow up.

Ya, that's defiantly what's happening here...

This is the dumbest shit written. Obviously you dont pvp or play competitive pvp games.  This is a tired arguement that holds no validity. So kinda shut the fuck up.

I play PVP in every game I play that has it.  This PVP in this game sucks balls because its basically EVE and EVE PVP is boring AF. Clearly you don't PVP. you're probably a 'professional' seal clubber.

Buh Buh my kd dude, I can't go in there.. ill pick people off from way over here and run like hell when shit hits the fan...  bunch of cry babies

The question really is: will they allow pvp to happen with this patch, or is the game going to continue to be a giant warping/safe zone game.

PVP is open right now.  But you're not talking about Player vs Player, you're talking about Predator vs Pray.  So you need seal clubbing for some reason??  Why do you need seal clubbing?  Why don't you get with other PVP's and duke it out until you find who's best?

I fail to see the thrill in hunting people who are not good at PVP.

    anyways,

As for 0.24 - If I lag out at the AH it's a garbage, place holder, update regardless of what's in it.

  5. ill try and log in

Edit: I logged in no problem.  I had this issue a while back, this was NQ's response.

NQ got back to me and gave me these instructions:

    Thanks for reaching out.

I'm sorry to hear about what you have experienced.  To reduce lags and disconnects, please  try these in-game graphics settings:

    1. Set Dynamic Shadow settings to Low (not None)
    2. Set Environment Shadow settings to Low (not None)
    3. Turn off Volumetric Clouds
4 Reduce the number of thread counts to 2

After this, delete your shader cache as well. To delete the shader cache, navigate to %localappdata%\NQ\DualUniverse and delete the file shader_d3d11.cache, then try to relog.

    Worked for me.

I meant NQ's Continuous Single Shard Server, one of very few things about this whole project that they actually developed in-house. As far as I know it's currently still the first and only one of its kind, although the main principle is fairly straightforward.

Maybe they're just keeping the game alive (barely) because the playerbase makes for a cheap crowdsourced labor force for testing the server tech with DU as a use case. Maybe that's how this title pays for itself: It's not a game, it's a test case. The actual product is the server tech, the actual customers are other studios. Maybe that's why they do close to zero testing themselves before deploying a patch. The kind of bugs that make it through "QA" *cough* is unbelievable and always has been. Maybe that's why the last major added feature of note is still the PvP patch from march 2020. Maybe that's why no significant feature has been added in almost a year. Maybe that's why almost every feature is bare bones, barely works, and none of them reflect the time it took to implement by a long shot. Maybe that's why the game is still having most of the same problems now as we've had since day one. Honestly I can't think of another explanation. Nothing about this flimsy joke of a game and NQ's M.O. makes any sense whatsoever. I seriously don't know what else to think anymore, it's ridiculous.

That explanation fits.  It's bad for this game though.  I didn't know this single shard server was new stuff, or that good.  Crazy, if you're right though

  7. 36 minutes ago, Bobbie said:

Judging from what they actually implemented, 5 minutes sounds about right.

3 minutes for the mission system.

It's baffling to me how little progress is made in so much time. It was never terribly impressive to begin with, but the more employees NQ gets, the slower they seem to move.

And then someone else recently posted a link that shows how the montreal branch has an "annual revenue" of $8.87 million... Which couldn't be from all those hundreds of thousands of game subscriptions that they aren't selling, huh... One can't help but wonder what their time is really spent on, what else they got going on.

Best case scenario I can think of is if most development resources are going to the server tech and they are licensing it to other development studios. But that still doesn't mean that the game itself has any priority, or even that it hasn't already been written off... ?

Server tech? I read some posts that said they were on amazons servers.  Are they running their own show?

  8. Org wallets?????

I hope that took 5min.  If they spend any real amount of time on that crap, this patch will be a joke.   The game needs optimization, period.  Everything else should be put on standby.

You can just set up dispensers to transfer money...  The priorities in this game are bat-shit crazy.

People are not doing PvP because it is a place holder you can easily avoid.

Interesting that you see this game as such a competition, I supposed that is the difference in our attitudes.  Can you explain what this 'advantage' is please?  I am building a civilisation, I am not in competition with anyone. My org is a team of two players and we sell ships, we trade goods, are making a racing team, building a casino.  Not sure any BIG ORG has 'played with me' and they will certainly never 'tax', infact all the big orgs I know (and i know many) have been very friendly and helpful.  Prehaps this is the problem, you are talking about what you think big orgs are, rather than having any actually interaction with them.

If you see this game as everyone is in competition with each other (which they are not), then your concerns are valid but, as with civilisation, we are not actually all against each other, just living in the same place.

you: "Can you explain what this 'advantage' is please?"

-On one stream, of one guy, belonging to one big corporation, he showed and explained how he made 450,000,000 quanta the day after 0.23 was dropped.  He said it was planned and others in his corporation, and all the big corporations were doing it.  The first and second blueprint fiasco were also planned for the big corporations.  I'm sure some lucky people got rich too, but they were lucky.

you:  "I am building a civilisation, I am not in competition with anyone. My org is a team of two players and we sell ships, we trade goods, are making a racing team"

-You are NOT in competition?  selling ships is competition, trading goods is competition, you are making a racing team to do what exactly... compete?????  Dude, you can't say you're not in competition, and then list the things you are competing in...

you: "infact all the big orgs I know (and i know many) have been very friendly and helpful"

-I predict that your statement will not age well.

you: "If you see this game as everyone is in competition with each other (which they are not)"

me:  "If you're just going to build for yourself then the points do not matter.  If you are going to do anything competitive (industry, market, pvp, ect) then your fucked."

-The important word here is 'IF'.  How, HOW?, are you interpreting my statement as saying EVERYONE is in competition with each other?  I didn't compete with anyone, I build for myself.  When I have extra of something and I want to get rid of it, I undercut everyone on the AH by a good amount. I know this is at a loss, but I am not interested in COMPETING on the AH.

The problem here is that your posts suggests that you are living in the 'now'.  My post is talking about the 'later'. And maybe it wasn't made as clear as it should have been for some readers.

The game, in its current form, doesn't allow for the big corporations to through their weight around.  But when surface PVP comes out, they absolutely will.  Plus the pirates, and griefers will be in full swing having a field day with players outside the safe area.  This will make higher tier ore harder to get, and outrageously expensive to buy.  I predict that this will force players to the safe zone, and force some players out of the game.  I also predict that most new players will see the game for what it is and stop playing shortly after, causing sustainability to take a big hit.

So, if you are a new player and thinking about getting your friends to play.  Be carful, the current game is 'safe', but it is not intended to be 'safe'.  I suggest you wait until surface PVP comes out before you dedicate time and money into a game that is, currently, not indicative to what the game is going to be.

"The trick is to never let the new players, or the players having 'fun', catch on to what the game really is.  A corporation game, where the corporations have a gross advantage over everyone else so they can take advantage of everyone else."

Its a moot discussion anyway. They won't change the skillsystem. This was the plan from the start. Changing it now would not only mean additional work for the release in 11 months but also a complete overhaul of existing systems plus outcries from players everywhere to compensate them in a way.

Amazing how ppl sub and pay for a game with existing features and then complaining about it

Release in 11 months??  I really doubt that.  I think it will be pushed back a few times.  Lots of things need fixing, and PVP is going to be released.  That will require balancing and fixing within itself.  I really don't see 11months.

  12. from another thread;

I flew in to pick up some stuff at Alioth 17.  Was waiting for the market to load up, then I got kicked from the game.  Now when I try to log back in, the loading time is really really slow and I get kicked off the server before even loading up.  Is this common? Is there a way to get back in?  I have cleared my cache, but still not loading up.

    *FIXED*

    Just to be specific:

Stock Control -> Container optimization - This skill reduces the mass of the cargo placed in the container as Fra119 mentioned above.

Inventory Manager -> Container proficiency - This skill increases the volume of items that can be stored in the container.

I am way late to respond to this, but I was wrong. Sorry about that.  This guy is spot on.

Ignore the tutorials if they are not working, you won't learn much about anything that you cannot learn with a few questions to other players. There are some minor rewards but for the time it takes you could have already mined a million bucks by yourself on any other planet or moon. I still have no idea why new players are dumped on sanctuary. The lag is terrible at the hub when you start, the mining is worthless and there are almost no impressive structures or player interactions to get you into the game. I was pretty close to giving up on the game after the first three days on that cursed moon. Go to Alioth and stop wasting time there. I truly think it is a mistake to put new players there for their first experience of the game.

You get a good amount of experience points, and a decent amount of quanta, for doing the tutorials.  That alone is worth it.  Don't down play free experience.

From a persistent universe, I would expect my vessel to be exactly where I left it.

Except of course in PvP or on a claim from another player who can move the construct with the maneuver tool.

So the considerations are actually superfluous. IMO

    from the website:

    A PERSISTENT SINGLE SERVER UNIVERSE

This issue is cause massive amounts of lag.  I also agree with you, but that needs to be after optimization has been mastered.  The lag now is horrible.  We need a temporary fix.

I'm new to time-based skill point games, so perhaps this type of thing has already been addressed elsewhere. What is to become of new players down the line and skill point accrual? Will those who got in early simply have tens of millions of points more than those who recently joined? Will new players be given a higher rate? Will a temporary hard cap be created to halt progress for a time at some point?

This is a concern if I am to ever try to get friends to join post release.

This whole game is time based.  The earlier you get in, the bigger the advantage.  Other posts are sugarcoating one side the system.  If you're just going to build for yourself then the points do not matter.  If you are going to do anything competitive (industry, market, pvp, ect) then your fucked.

You are not going to compete with T5 crafters because they make profits off of razor thin margins and most of them are funded by big corporations.

PVP in this game isn't Player vs Player, it is Predation vs Player.  PVP is in the game right now and very few people are doing it because it is expensive.  Lord forbid the big corporations have to spend money, or do any real work.  They are waiting for surface PVP (Predation vs Player) so the T5 pilots can hunt lesser players for easy kills.  It's far cheaper to hunt and kill players that are less than you so the cost is on the prey, not the hunter.  Then you have the real game, which exists behind the façade.  The big corporations are in cahoots with the devs to keep them so far ahead of everyone else that new players, solo players, and small group players are just toys to be played with, players to be killed, or players to be taxed.  The trick is to never let the new players, or the players having 'fun', catch on to what the game really is.  A corporation game, where the corporations have a gross advantage over everyone else so they can take advantage of everyone else.

  17. Time.  1 hour and you ship gets compactified, regardless of size, and put into a dispenser system.  The you have to buy it back.  Each compactification cost double the previous one.  1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, 16000, ect.

This way we get the ship out of there quickly and the owner gets fined exponentially, to a point of losing your ship.  Any ships not claimed after 7 days are deleted permanently.

Edit: you can only un-compact your ship in the starter zone area.  That way people don't use it as an advantage.  How you get there is your problem.

  18. 4 hours ago, Bobbie said:

For what it's worth I've never had that problem (and I hope it stays that way)... I've been using 1-layer voxel landing strips for my ships from XS to L-core. Some of the smaller ones (mostly speeders but also a hauler) have no landing gears. So as far as I'm aware, it should just work. If it doesn't work then I don't know why, unfortunately.

Does this happen every time for you, or is it maybe a glitch that could be "fixed" by taking off and landing again just this once?

It happens every time.  I have tried to take off and land, but nothing.  I rebuild the platform in different heights, but that doesn't work either.  It isn't it the same spot either, its just a random spot where my ships sink through the floor like is was quicksand.  My ships are big enough that only one side sinks, but it sinks way past the landing pads, half of my ship is through the floor ><!

  19. 4 hours ago, Fra119 said:

I was following the previous thread, my opinion was, and still is, that the one not working properly was the scanner, so as I was scanning on alioth a few days ago I did a couple of more tests in the meantime. The best one was over this one hex which had a small amount of malachite and limestone, like 5000 and 10000, ended up extracting like 5300 and 9500 (got the screenshot but I'm not at home atm), pretty much self-explanatory.

This is demoralizing.  So much frustration.  And the rumor is that they are working on PVP...  I predict that will only add more frustration, and probably cause another exodus... smh

  20. 8 hours ago, Fra119 said:

Mh I've been using 1 voxel thick landing pads for months and my ships never sunk. Do you have landing gears on your ships?

Yes I have landing gear, just 1 layer platform. Going to have to try more...

Edit: 2 layers also doesn't work.  Frustration has now kicked in...
