  1. I really hope so eventually, having ground vehicles as a low cost (fuel wise) alternative adds an interesting dimension. People would then need to build roads, bridges and tunnels to more effectively transport goods around and be much cheaper than flying.

Generally how multiplayer games work with vehicles is that the simulation is performed on the client so that there is no lag and then the server checks with certain rules about whether certain movements are actually possible (to prevent cheating). If you didn't do it this way there would be a lag between pressing your movement buttons and your car/plane/character actually moving which is super annoying.

  2. I suspect most people wont ever take DAC from the Ark safe area. If an organisation does it, it will be with an escort of battle ships and be a serious operation and the sort of infrequent operation that will make the in game news.

I imagine, organisations will have the equivalent of their "Federal Gold Reserve banks" setup around the safezone with people commuting back once a month to extend their game times.

    edit: Nevermind

  3. You can resolve this very quickly by having any purchased DACs not exist in the game until the player goes to an ark ship terminal or uses the game menus to "release" them, it could be as simple as "You have 20 DAC on your account would you like to activate one now or transfer them to your inventory?"

Obviously if you are going to sell them on in game market you need to release them to become an ingame item with all the risks that are involved with that but if a player is purchasing DACs for themselves from NQ for personal use there should be no risks, its to important

  4. Uuuuh considering all of the kickstarter rewards were 100s of euros worth of DACs I sure as hell hope the dev's provide some sort of secure storage in the ARK otherwise there is going to be a lot of tears when people start getting robbed for serious amounts of real world value in the first few hours.

Definitely going to have to confirm this and possibly sort out some sort of housing in the safe zone before ever setting foot outside.

  5. I'm not concerned about the underlying mechanics of how damage is calculated I just want engaging game play. If I'm playing in first person and I'm using a ranged weapon I just want to point and shoot, the game should handle the targeting and all that stuff for me same as if I was flying a fighter it should just target whatever is in front of me so when I shoot it intuitively shoots the thing I expect it too. If I have to make some kind of selection by tabbing through available enemies that's super lame and frustrating. I don't want to play counterstrike, I just don't want to think to much about the game mechanics

  6. If players are the type to be willing to throw a lot of real world money at getting an advantage in a multiplayer game like this, they would always be able to do so anyway, the only games that didn't have gold farmers were the ones where money had limited number of uses.

I don't like it, but I think the "genie is out of the bottle" in that big organisations with serious conflicts and huge amounts of time sunk into building an empire are going to feel pressured to invest real cash DACs or not. I don't see how you can get around that reality, its the high stakes inherent in a game like EVE or DU that incentivises buying an advantage but also the high stakes that makes this game so appealing.

I can see from the perspective of it being announced before the game has launched that it looks awfully sketchy but I think it was a pragmatic decision based on seeing how other games like this have gone. At least this way your real life euros or dollars are going to the devs and not the Chinese gold farmers

  7. You can have it both ways, in both Defiance and Tabula Rasa those games play like a shooter but it is masking the mechanics which is traditional stats based roll the dice to see if you hit, the only thing you did by aiming was select your target it did not simulate actual bullet phyiscs.

Cover might be interesting should be easy to estimate how much cover your avatar has based on its proximity to voxels.

  8. Enough people like myself care about the game and the future to work together and with NQ to try and make the new player experence pleasant and ensure that the area around the ark doesn't become a mess or a bad reflection of the game.

I expect, that some authority either as an in game organisation or some ark region specific game mechanics will control property rights for "ark city" with properly allocated areas for recruitment, a noob bus service and areas for organisations to build embassies, trade hubs and factories.

Expect a plaza with a sign "Welcome defrosties"

  9. So whats the deal with respawn nodes? If I kill an bandit near my town, will he respawn at the town? Is there going to be a way to limit to only neutral players or above? I hope so. If I kill a pirate I want to kick his ass back to some sort of outlaw town or even back to the ark.

Taking the guys stuff will be payment for wasting my time and effort

  10. It would be nice to have some in game mechanism to do this but I think the scope of thing's people might want to do means that detecting completion and enforcing it between players would be difficult. So it should be more like if you break the terms of a contract with someone and they are affiliated with an organisation they will put a bounty on your head and you wont be welcome around certain parts anymore and organisations will have a reputation for either scaming people or being honorable.

Having the mechanic handle some of the admin like automatic payments and transferring items would be nice.

  11. "Don't take with you what you cant afford to loose"

I thought the idea was that you drop *everything* in your inventory when you die, the only thing that should be safe are your credits as they are an electronic item and not store on your person

  12. While the feeling and the theoretical side of this is appealing, I think in reality it wouldn't work well.  People in Alpha should be focused on smooth gameplay finding bugs, not what cool thing should I build so it is an ancient relic in game release.

I disagree, having a bunch of cool stuff created by the alpha team is going to be important for marketing the game to a wider audience.

  13. I like the idea of having different ores with different chemical compositions that are harder to refine but yeild better quantities of iron, I think maybe requiring players to solve chemical formulas might be a bit hard though.

But having them have to grind the ore and combine it with limestone to produce pig iron + slag and then further steps to make steel sounds interesting.
