  1. To be perfectly honest, I think the bridge of any ship should be located in the center of the ship, or at least nestled within some considerable armor. Observation decks are find, but I would apply liberal usage of bulkheads between them and the rest of the ship. I'm one for utility, rather than aesthetics.

Let's agree to disagree then :)

*cough cough* I think you're forgetting the Millenium Falcon's design.

  2. @SpaceMonkeyCongh:

You will be able to create as detailed of an object as the voxels allow. In DU, I believe a voxel is around 25 cubic cm so you could make a pretty good amount of detail with just the base blocks. Of course there's always voxel tools that allow for further manipulation and detailing, so in essence, yes, fine detail is achievable. Certainly detail would be better than that of Minecraft. How you would go about "voxelmorphing" these objects is still in development to my knowledge. As you have noted, 360-degree modeling and manipulation is a potential method of building, but I think Nyzaltar would be better suited to answering in that respect.

  3. Making it accessible to everyone is probably best. We can get a lot of fresh ideas in there.

Also, would it be restricted to anything DU related? Or open for any kind of drawing?

I mean, it would probably make sense to have all the art on these forums be related to DU in some way or another, otherwise it'd just be a kind of a big DeviantArt wouldn't it?

  4. Well, it could possible to make a forum section for this :)

We can do it as public (every visitor can see it), private (every registered user can see it) or it could be part of the upcoming Alpha Team section (only Alpha Team members can see it). Just let me know what you prefer.

Edit: I saw already 2 topics in "General Discussion":

    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/385-the-alioth-museum-of-art/

    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/386-comments-and-critiques-art/

To keep this topics in this section can be a double edged sword:

    - It can give more visibility to these topics.

    - It can also "drown" them under many new topics.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

Hmm I see your point. Maybe a new section of the forum is in order, so that there needn't be so many rules to manage clutter and such. I do like the name "The Alioth Museum of Art" (not to be self-praising). A new thematic section for art would simplify and organize things that forum members would want to share.

  5. Do you want this to only be concepts that we come up with for the game? Or anything in general?

Perhaps I should've just posted this directly onto this thread instead of on the Museum thread, but no it doesn't have to be. Just any art that you want to share that's related to DU. Not necessarily concepts only. Also I don't want this to be "Do I (Astrophil) want this to be anything" type of thread. I only started the thread, but it's supposed to be a community-run thread, so feel free to share whatever you want.

  6. This is the comments section for the Alioth Art Museum. Here members can comment on or critique any art that has been posted in the Art Museum thread. Always be respectful when commenting or critiquing and be sure to ntoe which piece of art you're referring to when remarking upon it.

  7. Welcome to the Alioth Museum of Art! Here you are able to share with the Dual Universe community your own pieces of artwork and browse pieces by other forum members. Please respect the following guidelines when visiting or submitting to the Museum:

    • Please post only your own original artwork. Do not submit others' art under your own name without proper credit.
    • Keep your artwork strictly SFW. This means no pornographic, inappropriate, or offensive material. Nudity and such are allowed under artistic perspective only. Please use proper judgment when posting.
    • Keep your artwork to one post per person in order to minimize thread clutter. This does not mean one piece of artwork per person: You may edit and add as many pieces of art as you would like.
    • Remember that this is an art thread, so please only submit art to the Museum. This constitutes drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, models, etc. Captions, titles, and other additional information about the artwork are of course permitted. Comments and critiques may be posted to the "Comments and Critiques - Art'' thread.

Enjoy your stay at the Alioth Museum!

  8. You speak whale?

I have yet to find any real game who uses the input of its testers.

How often do threads on reddit or on forums start with " yeah but this has been said before during alpha/beta/zeta"

Well on that note, I have to say that Digital Extremes, who developed Warframe, is unusually open to its players' input, and that's generated a lot of popularity for the studio and Warframe.

From what I've seen, I have a feeling that Novaquark is going to be the same way. :)

  9. Is Aphelia going to be significant after the initial landing? I noticed while reading the following passage:

"There?s something schizophrenic, even bipolar about this AI. Depending on whether she?s addressing you or the phantom crew, whether she?s handling the ship or coaching you, she adopts a different tone and a different vocabulary. It?s not just that she?s adapting, that she manipulates you to push you to your optimum mental and physical health ? which I accept quite willingly ? she seems to be pursuing a greater, more secret goal, which is not just a matter of a successful colonization or our survival. Something else is at work in her that I can?t seem to understand or articulate."

Sounds like the beginnings of self-awareness for Aphelia. Are you guys possibly planning an AI overtaking? XD

  10. @Markus:

I hope I don't sound pretentious saying this but naturally, this is an opinion shared by most, if not all, of us forum members. We certainly would not ask anything in return, but if Novaquark did decide to do a little something for backers and testers, I'm sure most would not blatantly refuse to accept it either. I for one always live for the cosmetics and such in-game, and purty outfits are always great.

But the point remains, yes, most of us are perfectly happy to help make DU the best it can be. :)

    Cheers,

  11. So, having just started Grey's Anatomy two weeks ago, I, in the midst of an episode, came upon a thought for which I was not entirely sure the manner in which it would manifest itself in Dual Universe. This thought, namely, the concept of in-game health.

Therefore, let me outline a few questions below:

    • Will there be a concept of health, not just in HP or energy, but in other palpable effects (from diseases, disorders that have more permanent effects such as lowered HP or visual symptoms, faster death rate), or will medicine have advanced so far that this won't be an issue? And perhaps potential doctor/surgeon roles?
    • Will there be diseases? If so, what kind of effects and diffusion can we expect to see (as in contamination, epidemics)?
    • Should diseases and health problems carry over if you are resurrected?

I have a feeling it's much too early to be digging into such in-depth details, as the fundamental mechanics are still being laid out and refined, but exploring the concept a bit ought to be interesting.

  12. I think that it should definitely be up to us to create the trappings of a galactic civilization.

In time, hopefully we can turn the entire starter planet into a megalopolis, with many locations for new players to visit. And perhaps, if that happens, the NQ team can start every player off with a small loan of perhaps a million credits (or whatever the currency will be) that they can use to purchase their first ship and get a jump start into the galaxy.

If new players can get an advantage like that, it may serve to increase the player base, as new players won't spawn in and struggle to simply complete a small engine to power a little sled. We can boost their confidence by granting them the resources and capability to jump into things and start exploring and selling map information, mining resources and transporting them to the nearest trade hub, or hunting down pirate players and get their first taste of the combat.

I hope DU won't be as harsh of a world as that. Perhaps, and I know how NQ wants to steer away from this, but perhaps a beginning starter quest to build your own ship would be helpful in getting new players acquainted with the game and starting them off with their own, custom, self-built ship as well. It would be a good way to kick players off with a sense of achievement and perhaps retain and expand the player base even more.

  13. I don't think it's too early, I'm already eyeing up some minions for my Empire *insert creepy laugh*.

But on a more serious note, I've tended to join groups really early only to see those groups go different ways once a game launches. I like to see the lay of the land and get a gist of how things will be in game. I already know of at least one person I'll be tagging along with quite possibly ;)

Oh my milady. Two Empires already. We have competition Saffi and Klatu! *hee hee*
