  1. Don't get me wrong I love private shards (running them that is) but it's not going to happen for this game. The tech level of things and scaling you would need a decent backend infrastructure plus the monthly fee is not 1 to 1 server costs. It's also for supporting the games future in new content and constant updates. If people run free servers it means the developers are losing money.

    That about sums it up.

  2. Er... not the best of ideas in my opinion, eliminates the whole single server/shard thing. But I'm all for having a different "section" of the game, pay separately and get access to a small story in the DUAL Universe universe, maybe have some modified, new, or entirely different game mechanics and such. There's certainly possibility to make another version or sect of the game for those interested in a different experience, though, I imagine it would really stop being DUAL Universe at some point, hence the "pay separately". But I would absolutely love an updating story mechanic based around major factions and the actual events that happen in the main game if this were to become a thing.

  3. I suppose wheels would be a bit out dated in the universe. I guess if physics aren't a issue, then a hover cart/dolly will have to work.

Lol  IffyCougar my destroyers will have secondary control rooms!!! Plus you're gonna have to get close first  B)

since we are roleplaying in a way here it would be cool to come up with assembly lines.  where the ship moves down a line as certain people build certain parts. Or in a hanger pilots only need to land in one certain spot, then the hanger crew could move that ship without getting in it.

LOOOOLm thats why my ships will have secondary decks! XDDDD

Well, as the crew of Vader's SSD can testify that might not always help you.

If it does I'll send 10 more fighters at you.

If those fail I'll demolish you with my superior ships and strategy.

If you somehow manage to survive I'll simply fly my flagship into yours and kill us both.

    Physics, fun!

  4. Your ideas are certainly awesome and powerful, but I don't think the game will ever be that complex. Your ideas are better suited to how an advanced civilization IRL would mine resources for a population of trillions. But this is just a game, so I wouldn't get my hopes up that the methods you describe will be present, at least not for while, or to the extend you're suggesting.

And lets not forget that everything you're suggesting could be turned right around and used as an outrageously devastating doomsday weapon!

    Maybe that's what he wants...

  5. This is most likely going to be more a player thing than a whole menu and such, though maybe with the whole LUA thing or just external sites it will happen, actually, no: It will happen, people are crazy...

  6. I must admit the physics thing is something I'd like to see added, at some point. Adds a whole world of possibilities...
Angry at another faction? Fly your ship into their house to display your anger...
Have a pesky Super Star Destroyer firing at you? Ram their command deck with a one man fighter!
Got shot out of the sky?! Have fun crashing to the ground, leaving a trail of disturbed earth in your wake!

Obviously there should be counters to such things. Shields, thicker hulls, heavier armor, weapons, etc.
But still, it would be fun I think.

  7. Well there should certainly be large scale mining, but not on that level. Large drills or other equipment can be used to go deeper at a faster pace and such. So, not planet destroying level, but maybe large island/asteroid disappearances will be reported throughout the galaxy...

  8. Found out from TheXPGamers. Watched his video, was like, okay this looks neat. A few days later he comes out with another one where he's with the developer, I start to follow DUAL Universe more closely. Then a few weeks later I decided to check out the website and set up an account.
For me, someone who loves Minecraft and Star Wars, this was very interesting. The more I found out the more excited I was.
Now, I haven't slept in over a week and my wallet is empty.

  9. This is what happens when someone gets upset because players don't want to be in their org and makes an alt account...

It's okay we don't care either....

Again, alt or no alt, the guy/girl has a point. I'm to lazy to go over it again, besides what's the point by now? But he/she did voice some concerns I had, though there are a few debatable points...

  10. You are just plain paranoid and delusional. I'm sure you see dead people, too.

1: The game hasn't even started yet and you're already paranoid about how an org will behave just because the use the word "pirate".

2: Your obsession with the need to control a large group is all in your head. People obsessed with order and rules might be compelled to grief in order to control, but not everyone is obsessed with order, rules and laws.

3: I think you spend more time fabricating your own warped reality than Cybrex spends holding interviews with prospective members.

RELAX. It's just a game. And, really, it's not even a game, yet!

    1. Well, let's face it. pirates aren't exactly known to politely ask for the things they want...

    2. There should be some level of control, otherwise things will fall apart, but it shouldn't be taken too far.

    3. That's just offensive.

so the TL;DR is you think boo is bad. Is there a point to be made? A result you're hoping to get?

if you ask me you're just an ALT of someone from another org that's butt hurt about BOO being bigger.

This could be true, though he/she does have a point: The growth does seem a bit off, and a lot of the other points he made have some of my concerns voiced within them.

Honestly there doesn't seem to be much issue if BOO is using fake accounts or whatever. Sure, some people may join expecting more members but eventually they'll catch on and leave, if it's true. But there are many thing's to consider.

I have decided this thread is fit for forum consumption, and have linked in our recruitment thread to help spread the good word that is BOO.

Thank you for your time gentle beings of the dual universe,

    Cybrex

Er... I'll just say, if I saw this thread I'd stay clear of BOO. Even if it turns out to be false, this is some concerning information for people to see when considering joining an organization.

Well Cybrex. It was a pleasure doing business with you. I've heard good things about you and want it to be false the claims that I have made.

And, may BOO not fall into the trap that I have predicted it will with the current claims you have made.

"Business" how interesting, this didn't exactly seem like "business".

  11. Honestly something does seem odd about BOO but who am I to say? It could be either way...
But, Outlandish did sum up my thoughts about a pirate organization pretty well. I can see a few working together but it doesn't seem like something that'll hold up, but maybe it will, only time will tell.
But, we can't live without some pirates, things would get a bit boring and such. Need to balance the good with the bad. Er... no... the Cinderfall with the BOO? Oh, screw it, the point is you need a bit of both.

  12. As interesting as it would be to try and hide/delete/send away Blueprints and valuable data to prevent it from falling into enemy hands I think it would be annoying to design a ship then have someone steal your work and produce the ships, thus making money off of your work. Pirates would probably love the idea, but I think blueprint theft might be going a bit far.
Resources sure, steal em' all. Hey, if you can rip my house out of the ground and fly off with it I'd be impressed... Crack my ships security and fly off with it and I'll be impressed even more. But just remember, I'll do everything in my power to track you down and do the same...

  13. I can see how the lock and fire thing would be necessary or preferred for vehicle combat, though I'm not fond of it. But I wish that infantry based combat would be more like an FPS, just my thoughts. I like the fast paced stuff, even if I'm not very good at it.

  14. It would be interesting. I'd like to see a lava planet and/or volcanoes. What is the variation in planets actually? Will we have planets that are entirely one desert or forest, like in Star Wars or will we have planets with variation, both? And how much variation will there be, how many different types of planets will there actually be?
Also, on the topic of planets and such. Will there be a change in seasons? Winter/Summer, Snow/Water, Ice/Lake?

  15. The fuel requirements to fly that much mass on a planet would be astronomical.

Having a large space ship big enough to be a city would be possible but don'e expect the whole thing to land on planets :D

    You could crash...

Crashing is only a more advanced form of landing.

  16. Already imagining a private estate with a large glass wall allowing you to view the depths of an ocean. Sea creatures? Some form of animal is planned for land, will we get fish of some sort? Birds even? I'm really big on the animal thing, since my dreams of an NPC army can't be realized. Maybe I can be the overlord of all rat-kind?

  17. As amusing as it would be to sit back with a bag of popcorn and watch the chaos unfold I must say that this is something that should not be in the game, and this is coming from someone who's all for the idea of NPC's running ships, mining, and even building certain things.
Maybe a very watered down and less universally destructive version of self-replicating robots... or maybe not...

  18. Well, if at all possible, the first big goal I would have is to setup an asteroid base. This would require access to space first, but considering the size of the game I'm not counting that as a "big goal" regardless of how long it takes or how expensive it is at first.
I would like to find a rather large asteroid, and begin burrowing into either the side or top of it. Err.. no. I would decide if it was the side or top then burrow, seeing as there's no gravity in space... Anyways, I'm going off-topic to much.
I'd have a large hangar door in the "top" of the asteroid where I could store a few fighter-craft and one moderately sized ship, and the base would mostly be inside the asteroid, though there would be other small/medium sized landing pads and large windowed sections. Weapons would, of course, be mounted somewhere for defense. The base would be able to house maybe 10-30 people, though I doubt it would reach that capacity, and it would hopefully be the home of a mining operation as well. As time progresses defensive platforms and factories may be established in/on/around the initial asteroid and any surrounding asteroids.
I imagine if I manage to do this I would profit somewhat from the resources I gather, and could make even more by repairing/selling ships and fuel. Maybe sell/rent land or something on nearby asteroids and start up a small town. From there I would move on to bigger and better things, if I believed I could manage it, sell the asteroid and move on.
This would be more a group undertaking though, but I have hope.
