  1. First of all to assume malice over incompetence say a lot about yourself as a person.

That said. No. The game is not a 'con', I've been playing fine with minor issues that were not too distracting for the past two weeks.
They are just really running into many unexpected issues at certain points of the system from the player count, that were not there before in Alpha because of much lower player numbers.

Just accept that this is a Real Beta, where things actually break and not work sporadically, and not the kind of "Beta" that Fortnite was in until it made its first billion dollars.

  2. A year ago I was in the same boat you are right now. My thought process was "All I do is just look at the spreadsheet and plop the required industries to spit out the part I want, this is very convoluted and time-consuming, blah!"

But then markets, industry and player progression and thousands of players came along. I think it's a great feature now and it was fun setting up my first chain to start spitting out industry units to haul with great effort to the nearest market to sell (they're heavy!)

All that was missing was the right context.

  3. Rebinding grey keys should probably not be done and is likely a bug.

Currently we have warp drives that allow using warp cells as fuel to jump your ship to a planet or warp beacon (currently not anywhere in the game world yet).

Wild animals and more fauna improvements are definitely something that is coming as said by JC. No traditional NPCs, likely, however.

Most people seem to trade on the Sanctuary moon, but that is still up in the air what becomes the 'hub'.

The sky is blue because of something called 'Rayleigh' light scattering.

In short, our current atmosphere composition scatters blue light the best as seen in this graph below, which is why it appears blue-ish:

  4. Common issue currently with kickstarter backers and a few people with non-standard access.

Submit a support ticket under Account & Billing outlining what you have here and they will get you sorted shortly.
However if you're impatient you can try and roll the dice on getting noticed in the official DU discord, channel #help-troubleshooting by the current GMs and staff reading that.

  5. It's something to do with building, selects the element as a target for.. something I'm not entirely sure. It's definitely building related.

This is different to setting an avatar as a target, where it will update your waypoint to where they move in the world.

  6. Pretty much indeed, you need to go spelunking to find higher tier ores, unless you find a cave or a large dip in the terrain to help you out - you will most likely not find T2+ from the surface.

You can find out what your celestial body has for ores from the map screen (F4) in the top right after you select the planet (moon) of interest.

(and then comparing it with your radial ore scanner window)

  7. DU seems to be suffering from getting too many players too quick, the servers do indeed allow practically limitless player counts, but there may not be enough servers to go around just yet, will probably get better as they budget more out soon! :)

The way the server works is it's actually multiple servers working together to provide a seamless single-server experience. Pretty interesting stuff:

Keep in mind this video is 4+ years old

I was worried I was doing that too much and might break something lol.

Do I need to get a new link each time or just keep banging on the same one?

If you still have this issue, do try to get a new one, the old one will likely have been used and failed.

Not the case....I am in the middle of nowhere and get hard crashes out windows when in build mode for example. No other title I have does this...no issues with anything else played but this title. It's simply not close to being ready for what they are attempting to do with it. Just too many bugs and errors.

That is likely due to your game hitting memory issues, If you're running 16GB try allocating more page file in Windows. Also there seems to be a memory leak currently with building for long enough it will just eat more and more RAM and crash eventually. Only fix is to restart the game every now and again when it hits 11GB+ RAM usage.

  10. I understand having the outlook on it that you do, I'd be in a similar position, had I been experiencing the same issues you have.
I've been playing for a week now and had mostly none of the hard game-breaking issues that quite a few people seem to be experiencing, and that is down to simply me leaving the population-dense areas ASAP.

Launch is exactly that kind of environment when all of the players pouring into the game in just a few dozen locations at once will create the highest load on players' computers, internet connections and server management for the shard system. It is the place where most teething issues with scaling are most likely to arise.

What's most interesting about the system is that people outside of the population dense areas are enjoying a relatively normal gameplay experience. It is unfortunate that for the most part all the starting players shoved into the highest density areas in the game are who experience the most amount of issues.

This is just hearsay, so don't take my word for it, but I've heard that while they could add servers and that would fix most of the issues, problem is they might be locked into a business agreement for X amount of servers with Amazon, and adding more is not as simple as flipping a switch, and likely not possible overnight. Sounds to me like Amazon bureaucracy is a likely candidate for the performance issues plaguing everybody currently.

As for the No Mans Pie-in-the-Sky argument, it's just not true. No Mans Sky Sean Murray initially in interviews promised features of the game that had not been present in the game on launch whatsoever. This is not the case in Dual Universe. Performance/Technical issues aside, if you get into the game without encountering technical problems, all of the promised content is currently in the game and is playable. This is very much a real Beta, not the kind of "Beta" term that most in the industry currently use as a shield for any gameplay issue complaints, but the real, old-school type of beta that only QA and hired game-play testers would be seeing back in the day.

  11. Outside of submitting a ticket about it, and perhaps making some noise about it on the official discord's #help-troubleshooting channel, not much to be done outside of waiting for someone to get through the ticket backlog back to you, unfortunately. The game is currently suffering from too much success and too little staff to resolve everyday in-game player issues.
