  1. So it seems good quality laborers will be highly demanded. This system seems to be hight-tech if it comes with scanning and mining techniques but medivalish is it comes to scale. It will force something we all know, sorting people. Minerals will have value, work will have value not only in in game currency, also in real money. It's scary how similar to real life dual is going to be. Of course game is an option, no one is forced to play it, reach people will be able to support NQ with purchases of high quantities of subscription tokens, poor people will have to work beneath 'em, smart people we'll get rich - at least in game. This is going to be something new, balancing it going to be a key. There has to be a reason for having tons of minerals, ships and station are obvious reason, but what about them? Why anyone should want to have real big ship? Why should we want this second life? What will bring us pleasure from a gameplay? Satisfaction? We will see, perhaps NQ dev-team will try to answer those questions, would be nice to see what really they want to offer us, players.

  3. As far as I know, those who will participate in the Alpha release are hand picked by NQ. To get on their 'list', you have to contribute. Participate in the community, be friendly, be helpful. This doesn't mean those with the highest post count (*cough* *cough* @CaptainTwerkmotor) So don't think you'll get chosen by upping your post count. Saying you'll get chosen is also wrong. It's about wanting to help the game's development. It's not just about getting to play early. It's called Alpha 'testing' for a reason. :)

Ohh, good to know, thanks Dominar! So I'll have to arm myself into more patience.

  5. Only thing I have seen concrete is 1st quarter 2017 alpha is hoped to be going. Very few chosen to alpha test then.

Do I understand it right? Alpha release won't be opened for anyone who want to participate? There's gonna be list for few selected chosen ones? If so, how to get on that list?

I haven't waited for any game like I'm waiting for DU, it would be a shame not being able to start DU experience right with alpha launch. Of course participation shouldn't be free of charge... DU won't rise without real support... Jesus, I don't believe I'm saying that. I remember WoW launch, I promised myself I will never pay for game on monthly basis and I never had. Idea of DU changed my approach to the subject, that means something!

About date... 25th of December 2016 alpha, 25th of December 2017 beta, 25th of December 2019 full release. I'm rather optimistic.

  6. NQ has said they plan to have hinges and pistons (as i recall) and that they are custom coding that part of the physics so that it plays nice and isn't to much of a load. The load problem also seems to be the reason we won't be getting wheels and SE is buggy as all hell (still play it a lot though). They wouldn't need milions of servers but anytime there is as many players as they want even if things are limited there is bound to be some problems.

Scripting as long as its done in a way that allow won't limit people at all they just might need to find small work arounds (like they do in SE)

I know there's gonna be movable parts, but I can't imagine using them won't be limited somehow. In SE you can place such parts as many as your or server machine is able to compute. I think in DU we will be able to do basic things like gates, extendable landing gears, things directly attached to main grid, nothing to fancy. I'm really ok with that, I just hope everything will work smooth, will not blow with no reason, and will make impression of not-so-static like we do have in Empyrion. Best part is scripting not so difficult as in SE, can't wait to get my hands on that part of DU.

  7. SE offers everything you want from DU. With couple mods it's quite easy to setup. I don't believe such programming and customization level will be possible in DU. This is simply not possible, voxel grids attached to other voxel grids with servos, motors, rotors, pistons whatever are very demanding if it comes to calculations... DU is supposed to be MMO for milion of players so this would mean NQ would need millions of servers to keep up simulation speed of world filled with super complex devices, vehicles, ships. I know what I'm talking about, I love SE, I love to create things build with many many moveable parts, one quite massive truck can eat up half of system resources, MP games are not possible without having serious slow motion feeling caused by drastically decreased simspeed. So I don't expect creating things without mesh items will be possible on any level closed to what you suggested. I would be nicely surprised if it was possible to place anchor (name for moveable part in DU) on a voxel placed on other anchor without having issues. It could be possible if client machines ware participate in calculations but I doubt NQ would want to use our resources leaving hacking gate wide opened.

  8. I have to point one little thing. I believe all of you are aware of basic tool, right? The one attached to avatars arm... Now compare this tool, which will obviously working on basic elements level, with this heavy industrial system... I'm all for getting things more difficult, complicated, but I can't shake feeling it will not fit. To be honest I'd rather to see tools like drill, grinder and other more humanish, less advanced tools with all this industrial ideas.

  9. So we don't know yet how solar systems will look like? I hoped there will be suns as physical objects, constant points in universe, reachable. Since I'm into SE I realize how demanding such universe would be if it comes to hardware.

  10. Permanent death would perfectly work in other universe where all hardcore players would meet. Like we had in Diablo. Immortals shouldn't meet mortal ones, reason is obvious and I think it doesn't need explanation. I'll just say that some people instead of admiring bravery would want to destroy it for known only for them reason. People are so inconsistent. Anyway I'd like to play hardcore mode in hardcore universe with other hardcore players. Althou I'd like to be able to reuse name - not because of lack of imagination, cause of habit.

  11. This has been brought up a few times please check these post for more info.

    Single Player Creative Mode

Single Player (Option to create MODs)

Single Player? I suggest we use this one for all further post as it is the oldest.

Nice Khaymann, I admire such awareness. Great search skills.

Especially third link is interesting, there is an answer right from the source.

I'd like to know predicted avarge data usage of typical hour gameplay. Another good question, is creative VR gonna be projected by server or local machine. As I've mentioned in other thread - first link, low bandwidth usage is crucial for me. Yea... They mentioned about innovative netcode... But I guess it won't matter. Microsoft with their latest product doesn't care about people who actually have to pay great sums of heavily earned money for every gigabyte, forcing users to massive constant downloads. Sorry, I know, it's not MS grief corner :-P.

  12. Thanks for links, when I was creating this thread I've just found the one about SP for moding, and this was and is not area of my interest. I haven't found first and third, I'll go through 'em to see what people think, maybe there will be NQs statement about subject of my interest.

  13. I would like to thank you all four interest in the subject. I agree with you all folks, however I still take a side of allowing player, selfishly ME to be able to at least design, script things in offline mode while abroad. Of course it's not mine or even yours decision I just wanted to know what other people think about such possibility. NQ will do with our silent voice whatever they please, seed of an idea has been planted. I'll play the game no matter of decision, maybe GSM Internet providers will make their offers more affordable till game release, and offline mode will not be needed by those who spend time in late 90s for most of the year.

  14. I believe you are able to use a "workshop" so to speak while creating. while not addressing your desire to be offline I do belive it lets you not waste resources and lets you be away from the populace

edit: ill look through dev blogs later if someone doesn't know which devblog it is off hand

Thanks for answer. I was going through forum and I've learned there will be virtual reality for creative construction. Game in game allowing to build anything in peace... Unfortunately for me it will be online mode only. So I guess I'll have to play other games for most of the year if GSM broadband proces will not decrease drastically.

  15. I just hate reaching borders or walking around, I hate limits. So for me this game, idea is a bridge to put myself between point A and infinity... It lured me, cause none of use will live to the moment when we, human race will be able reach infinity. We are prisoners of this rock, beautiful, greenish and bleuish rock. Probably we will never escape but we are advanced enough to create playable-dreams of impossible, convenient enough to cheer up sad soul. NQ tries to create daydream for us and for that I'm thankful and I'm going to support them in their efforts.

  16. The point? Allow players to build and test in peace. Allow all those who spend a lot of time far away from shore, and even if they are close to shore they need to use limited, expensive, ubstable Internet connection. I know there are not much people who spend so much time away from sufficient, limitless Internet network, but as I said, such mode wouldn't be useful only for unlucky ones. Creating blueprints in SP creative mode would have huge advantage over doing same thing online... No rush, everything could be thought way better and crush tested without loosing resources gathered in MP mode.

I doubt there will be such possibility that's why it's an idea, request not demand. Maybe till 2017 limitless LTE for UE will become affordable, now it costs something around 250-300 euro per month.

  17. I know it sounds crazy, it's gonna be MMO after all, however it would be nice to be able start single player game. Of course in limited universe, for instance one solar system. This mode would be just some called simulation, like NQ called early alpha stage - cryogenic dream of connected minds preparing remains of human civilization to start everything all over again in different place. Difference between SP and MP game would be obviose, cryogenic dream of one person allowing building, programming, preparing for MP games. I'm not talking about campaign, just sandbox world generated without Internet connection. I love building stuff, 2/3 part of a year I spend abroad and I use limited GSM Internet connection which is still rather expensive. I'd be glad to be able to play game solo, create things, program 'em and than use them in MP game. Also at home it would be great to be able to build stuff in quiet place, without worries about other players, connection stability, resources. What do you think about that?

  18. Well comparing a regular MMO to a voxel base game really can't be done. No Man Sky is in competition with games like Star Citizen and Elite dangerous. Dual Unvierse is in another world. Dual Universe is in the Space Engineers world but Dual Universe will have a chance to be in competition with voxel base games and the normal space sim world if it's done right. I never understood the hype around NO man SKys but everyone finds different types of games entertaining.

If you were going to try to compare these two games then after playing a week of a voxel base game like Dual Universe then more than likely you won't ever pick up No Man skys again. lol After you play a voxel base game like Dual Universe then your average space sim like a No man Sky becomes extremely boring.

You're comparing a Space Sim which is your typical Exploring a Universe fighting and trading VS the Sci fi voxel base sandbox games which has Building your own ships, bases and planet, trading, fighting and exploring plus traveling on a multicrew ship with friends that you've built?. I mean the choice is obvious. I'm still on the fence about the combat system but Dual Universe could be the game that ends games like No Man Skys.

I'd compare Dual Universe to Empyrion Galactic Survival. Space Engineers is more about physic simulation, cause of it MP games are rather annoying. One decent multigrid object can kill simulation speed. Empyrion has primitive physics, handles MP games, but it doesn't offer to much activities, plus limited universe. I hope DU will be something between EGS/SE and Wow. No Mans Sky looks awesome but game without creative aspect doesn't exist for me since Minecraft showed up... OK i might be to harsh for non creative titles, I do enjoy less creative games but for casual playing - I've never played non creative game for more than 200 hours, creative like Minecraft, SE, 7DtD each more than 1k play hours each.

  19. Yeah man! Would be really cool to see differences in armour on the battlefield. I mean there's a game Planet Explorer's (Dunno if you've heard of it) but there's a designer where you design weapons and vehicles and all sorts. Armour included. If there was a designer for ships like the one found in Planet Explorer's (But maybe a little easier to navigate and use) then I would love to see one for weapons, ground transport and armour. Just something I'd like to see :D

PE way of handling customisation is great, within couple minutes everyone can create nicely looking sword, gun, armor piece. It would be great to be able to do that in DU but I doubt they will add something like this in game.

  20. I thought cyber warfare is about hacking. Drones could be obvious target since they can be controlled strictly by program/script. Anyway, imagine planet defended by drones which ware hacked and turned against their masters :-D. I guess DU scripters will support us with firewalls against such attacks, but every firewall can be breached so such threat will exist.

If it comes to the physic nothing is sure, can't imagine there's machine capable to sustain simulation of huge battle. Machine? Even group of machines... What does 'single shard' even mean? I guess I've been playing SE to much.

Edit: OMG, there was second page... I just hate using forums on cellphone, but it's cheap abroad.

  21. Sure, the game is going to be optimised for launch on a greater variety or rigs. It's just that the Alpha is meant for those optimisations good sir. The only "real" issue I can see with very low settings, is possibly the game having to ditch any universal backgorund, like distant neublas and such, to mitigate any hindrance on lower spec systems to join.

I always thought alpha stage is about content, beta is about optimisation and killing digi-roaches. But you are programmer, so I guess I thought wrong.

Anyway, I just hope DU will work on my machine, all I want is 40fps on lowest settings in crowded, filled with constructions world.

  22. I know one thing, it will be possible to make a whole in a hull, land with smaller ship, exit it and continue fight right on board of target. So it will be possible to damage voxels. I really hope disconnected parts will create separated entities. I wanna see huge ships cut in half! People sucked into vacuum with terrible scream heard only inside their helmets! I wanna see huge parts flying around, obstructing way lesser ships, leaving scars even deep wounds on their hulls. I wanna see see it all! Pain, destruction, loss... If it comes to structural integrity from ME I'm against it. To much performance impact, althou static planet station cut from ground should be affected by physic, like ship with all negative impact. Let's face it, DU will not be physical simulator, it will have to use lot of shortcuts to simplify calculations in the same time keeping impression of relative realism.

  23. JC Bailie, the game's project developer and inceptor, run the game on a laptop, while running its server and given it was a two years old laptop according to some sources on Reddit, I can see a next-gen laptop to run the game just fine. Lenovo = the way.

THe graphics might be gimped, but the game demonstrated a dynamic resolution to decrease load on the player's side of the screen, similar to how Halo 5 (whatever is the one with Locke in it) to handle load to maintain a steady flow of 60 fps.

It's funny how having 60 fps on a console is "an achievement" ... anywho, the point is by the time the game is out, it will be so optimised a laptop can run it. The devs have shown they know their craft, so you don't have to worry.

Wysłano very heard about this famous laptop. It will be nice if minimum requirements ware low, easy to meet. However age of laptop is not a big thing. I had to spend 1k euro (1.1k $) for a laptop that could compare my pervious 5 year old 7kilo high end rig-top (which finally fried itself). When I read about wonders of DU, gigantic bases, ships, cities placed on planets and thousands of players I start doubting my recent purchase.

  24. You are confusing the ability to plug-in a keyboard, and having an operating system that can work with them. X Box one uses native C# which requires you to translate LUA on the user's end for it to work. THAT, would make your game go even slower with the amount of scripted ships in the game.

And you can build a medium-high specs PC for 350 to 450 $. A console costs more and performs less, not to mention the 30 fps cap a console will have to add to the game so it won't explode, a 30 fps cap that it will go to slide-show mode once more than 50 ships pop up in your screen and the game is not CoD, it aims for over 4000 players possibly on one spot.

    Paace.

So Xbox 1 can't be reprogrammed by game? Oh it doesn't matter, I'll have to get back to thoughts about new machine for my girlfriend. In our case desktop is not an option, she needs to have laptop, same as me so it really increases costs... Althou we are ecological, and we save power - 10 workhours of typical desktop costs 1$ in a place I live, for this price I can play on my laptop 40-50 hours. Hope that till DU release nVidia 1k cards will be well settled in laptops so 9xx GTX series get cheaper... And our Xbox, well it will remain useless furniture.
