  1. For those builders who are looking forward to flying their ships, how do you hope that applying updates to a model will be implemented.  I think the devs might restrict building to designated zones personally.  But in capital ship having parked it in a stable orbit, or even in a spot in space, I would like to see my self remodeling part of the hull, or adding new researched features to my design with out having to fly, all the back from the edge of know space to do so.  In smaller ships it becomes a problem of a space walk not getting the control one needs to have when building.  Now I did see the short video were they demonstrated the voxel building tech, and that was a drift in space, but I could see that being done just as a demonstration and the feature being changed in the alpha release.  Maybe you think its a no brainier that it will be like it was in that video, reference any dev blogs if you remember them discussing this, I still haven't made it though all of them yet.

  2. I have a question...

    Wot

I was thinking you meant will there be building physics (sway, wind, corrosion).

Those would only apply if you are building things inside of an atmosphere, or in some gravity well.  Personally I see most of my construction happening in a space dock, or massive engineering capital ship.

  3. Having a companion sounds like an amazing idea, and a huge advantage for solo explorers.  If nothing else an extra inventory would be nice.  Although personally I would go for the MechaDragon, for the sheer versatility of having the flying mount ( yes I realize there are spaceships, but I want a dragon damn it), the combat power, intelligence, carry potential, and the upgrade potential of having a mechanical companion.

  4. To step it up a bit, the no build limits has me thinking of planet building.  Now I know that the way that the Magrathean's did it was pulling matter though white holes, and I have seen nothing so far on spacial anomalies, (and for this to be a thing you will probably need the ability to create them) so this is way out there.  But limitless should mean limitless, although it depends on how the core and internals of the planet are going to be handled, and the way the movie depicts it at least it is a bit ridiculous (I don't remember how it was described in the book).     But the logistics and raw scale of the ships involved is fun to think about.  Of course it doesn't have to be an industry, it could like a throne of sorts for a mighty ruler of an alliance of organizations.  Just a very out in the almost complete emptiness of space idea.

I should also point out, Magrathean's are from the book Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and they build planets.

  5. Would you have to build the ring while it orbits the planet you want it around, or could maybe a bunch of organizations pull an ISS, and each build a section before moving it by either its own hyperdrive, or in some massive space truck (whose own construction would probably be just as complex/time consuming).

  6.   I was wondering how far do you think it will be possible to progress as a solo player?  On the title cards, on the official webpage, team up and go solo are right next to each other leading me to believe that the devs have them pretty equal in their minds.  But we won't know for sure until the game comes out.  For instance in EVE it is possible to play by your self, doing almost anything, but that kind of takes the second M out of MMO.  Also here I am not sure what to consider solo play. For the EVE players out there, belonging to a NPC corporation doesn't mean you play solo, you could still run incursions, join RvB and just hunt solo, but I am not sure if that counts as solo play as in incursions you are clearly not alone but, for the most part the people you play with amount to randoms, and in RvB you rely on the long standing support of others.  A solution if you have to play by your self is multiboxing, but there is no clear answer no weather we are going to have that supported or not.  Another thing, I don't know how far I want solo player to be able to go, I see no problem with a single player sitting within an organization by themselves, taking maybe weeks to capture a whole system for himself being frowned on, especially with an AI their to help them.

In case you don't play EVE, an NPC corporation is the what players default to when they leave a player made one and don't join another, and RvB is short for Red Vs Blue, where to player run corporations are in a state of perpetual warfare in a region of policed space, so they can kill each other over and over without interruption. (If any other EVE players could describe it better do so, because while I did play EVE for a while I was pretty bad at it.)

  7. @Asimos, Thanks for pointing that, by some upsetting miracle, I only learned of this game today so I am not caught up on all the dev blogs.

@Kuritho, hopefully that is a decision I get to make, although there will most likely be some feature of physics in the game, like the rocket equation for traveling though stargates, so I have opportunity to bust out my calculator and spreadsheets, to find out just how many billions of AAAs i should pick up at CaptainTwerkmotor's costco gas.

  8. Maybe you would upgrade weapons though some sort of discoveries system, were you find new resources on a planet/asteroid/literallyanywhereitsspace it could generate science goals for your research team, and since their is procedural generation the new tech could do anything from change color, adjust damage types or modify any stat.  I wonder if implemented, it would necessitate more roles on exploration runs, some sort of research analyst to assess viability.
As for your unicorn laser hearing the neigh yourself is quite boring, so you would need to upgrade your laser to an audio transmitter as well, and make the entire hull of their ship the speaker (although thats probably not how the laser should work).

  9. I am not against multiboxing, although I would never do it. How would be lessen the advantages of multiboxing, without also hitting the five friends who are playing the same way as the multiboxer?

  10.     I am almost positive that this topic has come up before, but I make this post just in case.  If this is an existing topic can someone kindly point me to it, thanks.

In this world of nanoformers and FTL the power issue may have with been dealt within lore but if it hasn't it opens up some interesting gameplay possibilities.  Can your spaceship's battery die? The most basic question to ask, this idea is closely linked with that of fuel because what ever is used to propel the ship though space can likely be used to generate power.  Maybe the outer layer of every ship is super efficient solar panel, although that leads into the same question when some of your outer hull is damaged or completely destroyed, if you dont manage your power levels could you lose all ship function and be set adrift, in the cold unforgiving void.  As the size of whatever we are taking about gets larger the questions change, to things like stability in things like nuclear reactors, and coolant, and the more exciting possibility of the trench run being recreated in DU.  Which brings my to the final point, Starkiller base, and dyson spheres and personally setting your organization to being a type two civilization, the power being used for whatever a giant space gun, opening massive stargate portals for your whole fleet or over relatively huge distances, or maybe even selling batteries and becoming space Energizer.

  11. If one alliance, organization or even person where to claim put down a "claim-station" to grow their influence, they would logically be able to expand the control of the entire planetary system by completely mapping and exploring all of it and building these claim structures at the optimal points throughout the planetary system.  After doing this what would happen I could see anything from your name appearing when, someone else enters your territory to you personally needing to give access to the systems stations, setting tax rates, taking a cut of good collected in your system.  Or to go in the other direction a complete lock down of that system making it a "private" home system, while still needing you to defend it from invaders, because we know that the stargates are going to be player operated and to build one to take you to a new system requires some sort of probe to already be in the system to which you want to travel, I see this not being so far fetched as it may first appear.

  12. The ability to, when building your ship or station, place individual components that can be used for many different types of feed back to a central station in the command center of the like.  Weather the components would only cover one type of sensor or be an all in one package could be determined by skills used to build them.  The feed back could be from video, thermal and inferred to air density, and some sort of advanced medical scanner.  The necessity of these systems might not be there, depending on if there will be boarding actions, how damage to your ship is dealt with internally, if you can have stowaways, medbays, internal automated defenses, if one person can run a space station, gambling establishments in or that take up the entirety of one ship, and a simple vault where a community would store their vast wealth.  And even then if none of those are in the game, having the ability to look at your ship though security cameras would be pretty cool.  So tell me what you guys think, even though the majority of this post was just a list of other ideas i had.
