Bounty Hunting

Bounties will not be abused if these ideas are considered:

- the death of a hunted bounty is less favorable than the reward given to the hunter

- bounties are used to kill players, therefore punish them

Bounty Hunting is not "kill the badguy".

Bounty Hunters can be assassins as well.

The real feature it should have is, that when you get killed by a bounty hunter with a contract on you, you get to see the bounty hunter's employer, not the bounty hunter's name as your killer.

Bounty hunters, are nothing more than a hired gun. A very powerful, long range, bolt-action sniper rifle to be exact, but a hired gun none the less.

Hate the guy holding the gun, not the gun perse.

in the eyes of a badguy the goodguys are badguys so it is "kill the badguy", what other reason would you want someone dead other than having hate towards them

That's reason enough right there. Hate, Revenge. However, if they were a major leader and their death had somekind of diplomatic or strategic advantage that could also be the reason. 

 

For instance, You have gained knowledge that an enemy organization uses a single very large and powerful ship, and they only have one pilot with the skills to fly it. On the day you plan to attack you decide that its going to be a hell of a lot easier trying to take this ship down when it lacks a pilot so you place the bounty. The enemy pilot is assassinated just as your ships drop out of FTL and the attack begins with you having a major advantage.
