  1. Yes. Welcome to a world where the limits are being pushed and taken into new directions.

Dual Universe seems to be very confident in it's abilities to be a game and the devs at NovaQuark have stated that they are going full force. As such, we have full reason to belive in them.

    Welcome to the forum skylord

  2. From Nyzaltar, in the thread on Territory Control:

I hope they make it a super rare item that players will need to discover through exploration. The explorers that find them would be faced with a choice; head back to Jita Alioth and sell it on the market, or find themselves a little place in 'verse and plant some roots.

That is the best case scanaio. I want items like this to provide protection to those who need it, but to also be rare so that no place is ever full of safe areas.

  3. Why not join in?

    Name:

    Anthe "Mastered" Red-Male

    Falina Redmark-Female

    Role: DUA Leader, Economist, Builder/Designer

Side Jobs: Miner, Bank Manager, Legate, even more stuff

Basic Info: I'll be managing the DUA and massive player bases in order to sustain my own stability and that of others as well. I am looking at other factions/alliances/guilds/corporations to find a compatibility of interests. From there, I plan to help sustain them and my own Alliance together.

As well, I hope to be playing a major part in the Cinderfall Syndicate as I have found both of our organizations fall into compatibility of interests and would work well together.

  4. I think in the dev blog that is mentioned earlier they said that finding the alien item that would allow the arkification of an area is only part of it. the amount of energy and res needed would in theory do the same thing as if it was a temporary thing. if an group abandons a city sooner or later the power will dry up and the shield will fall. the main concern is making it so that its not impenetrable. either by having a way for someone to remote hack it or ,unlike the original ark, have it so that enough fire power brought down on the shield will over heat the generator ruining it and cause it to collapse till the generator is repaired.

Another idea that I saw going around was the infiltration of the arkified area and disablement. This would mean an enemy spy or as such going in and manually disabling the ark token as whatever would be protecting the area. We know that in the lore, the reason that the main Arkship defense couldn't be disabled due to the module being protected in Kyrium.

  5. Yeah just been reading their post actually, dont want to commit just yet to a group want to have a look around first eventually ill want to work on my own organization recruit fellow pilots to fly under me however, i read the devblog on organizations seems a bit complex when it mentions about tags, the RDMS system so once i learn about it and get to grips with it then i'm definitely gonna do that haha.

Come to the dark side. But no. The Cinderfall is a collaboration of groups and individual players and you really don't have much commitment. Just because you are in the group doesn't mean you get excluded from any others as well, so it's more of a bonus to be in Cinderfall than a downside.

  6. i vaguely remember something in a devblog where you use a computer terminal inside the ark that lets you do different researches. and depending on the complexity of the research affects the time. im thinking like civilization research when i read it. im assuming that the early stuff may only take a few mins to an hr. then as you progress further into a certain type maybe hours? or im making crap up and i dont actually have an inkling lol. but if im even remotely right id like the research time to only be max 24hrs. or maybe you instantly gain the skill but have a cooldown till the next one depending on complexity of what you just learned.

Thinking about it as well, I remember that much of the constraint of DU will be time as said. To jump to an area using FTL, you need to send out a drone which may take weeks to months. I'm assuming time as well is going to be the major constraint of technological expansion.

  7. i can see an alpha maybe by the end of the year, but i dont expect early access or anything till well into 2018 by the earliest. but im patient.,,,,kind of lol just gives me more time to get through school and learn coding past basic html web stuff(that i havent used in err 8 years)

Well it was specifically stated that they are looking for the alpha test at the beginning of 2017 or at least around that time. I personally interpret that as the first half. Of course as well, that means that they will start leaking more and as such. It's also possible that the alpha, if it runs smooth enough and they get working on any immediate problems, it could be in beta by the end of 2017, even if that is a bit optimistic(which it is).

I don't know all the facts but I can bet that they'll be working pretty hard on it until the release to the public comes.

  8. So, as mentioned in this video interview with the Dual Universe devs, it is said that there will be technological research in order to progress. That means that there will be something similar to tech research in the game. Now, this could mean one of two things.

We could have an actual tech tree that must be researched by time and experimentation such as testing things out. Or my prefered one....

True experimental research where you must test designs, figure out ideas and as such in order to build what you're looking for, ie a FTL drive.

  9. Hello SkilledStealth. Welcome to the Forums.

You sound like you'd be fitted to a mercenary. As well, building your own custom fighter and as such wouldn't be a bad idea at the start. However, you might be better off buying a ship blueprint once the game progressed, as there will be builders who specialize in ships.

But hey, that's just my idea of where you fit. Again, Welcome.

  10. Dang it! You have peaked my interest and now I will come up with the ideas of water planets!

Ok so if we have water planets, this could lead to some interesting bases and as such. If so, it might be possible to establish facilities on them. Even if the devs didn't program that in though, I imagine players would figure out ways. Other things thought that have come to me....

I can see water planets as a good way to collect oxygen and hydrogen by collecting the water and breaking it down. Therefor, you could provide the oxygen needed for a ship to have a breathable atmosphere and as well, hydrogen, which might have a useful element in engines. For instance, hydrogen, being a potential fuel for some ships, would work well. As such, it might be possible to create generators and power plants based off of hydrogen burning. Not to mention water turbines providing some power. This is the potential of having a water planet.

However, I'm not done yet. There is a possibility of having underwater operations. So maybe a submarine could be deployed and explore underwater areas. This being said, it would be quite amazing to see underwater combat take root and have the potential to fight on these planets with the right gear. This as well could give a user an advantage to have a underwater capable craft and defending a water planet.

I have some more ideas but I'll wait and see what other people post first.

  11. I would think that there could be a point where we "discover" alien technology that allows the growing of organic armor, or organo/mechanical integration.

Aaaannnnd. allow me to link you to this forum post where I began talking about that very such thing.

  12. For something like the Actor-Model framework, it would make the most sense to go with a library that is industry tested instead of rolling their own. Similar to how nobody rolls their own crypto implementation (actually nobody should ever roll their own but I digress) and everyone just uses OpenSSL or some other crypto library.

I would look at CAF like Protobuf, wherein the legwork in creating the structures and messages that need to be passed is on the programmer. So is the legwork of actually determining what to do with a given message, etc. But the internal details of how the schedulers work don't need to be modified because that's just one of the things you expect it to do well without modifications.

If I had to guess, a majority of their has gone into creating (or modifying) a voxel engine that integrates with their scaling code as well as building out their networking middleware. I can't imagine it was trivial to get an engine up and running that allows for a spaceship to fly through space while being handed off to different network nodes quickly enough to make the universe feel seamless, but I would give almost anything to get an architecture view of how all of their code works together to make it happen.

I wouldn't count libraries as part of their codebase, as we all use them and it's not really feasible to roll your own everything. If you look at it that way, there's still a very good chance 90-100% of their code is original.

Yes of course. Libraries are something we all use on a day to day basis. It makes sense for an industry tested library but it is interesting considering they specialize in tech and as such, are in position to make some of their own, not to say that they haven't.

It does as well give us some insight into what they might be able to do as well, which makes me happy to see a peak of what they are able to do.

Nevertheless, I am happy to see them using something industry standard and accessible to other people as well.

  13. I was thinking about the mechanic today actually! As well, it would be a good idea to propose a communication satellite as well.

Example: A large construct that has the ability to send signals and link specific satellites to one another. These would take large resources to build and are very good. Most likely use is to connect two distant planets or two stations in order to send important messages and maybe civilian communication as well.

Pros: Can link two satellites that are far apart and likewise connect systems.

Cons: Costly to build. Must maintain constant connection without interference.

That's just one object that you might be able to add.

  14. Can't wait to see the things we can build :D *Sighes* so long Untill it is possible for me to join or try it out

Yep. The wait is long but the reward will be oh so amazing. The game looks to be good and I can't wait to see what the devs will get for us.

  15. It's not rocket science.... oh wait.

Aside from horrible pun, it's not that difficult to implement this mechanic into the game with the way the devs are doing it. Each ship is it's own construct, which isn't any different from any other construct in the world. All they would need to do is to add some extra parameters, assuming they have leftover code from the planet gravitational field and construct a way to implement it into the ship.

  16. Interesting...

Another thing to think about, Meele weapons. Yeah, maybe not the most obvious weapon, but BASICLY imagine a ship with sort of grabbing claws. It goes up to a ship, grabs it and then attempts to crush or destroy important things while making it impossible to escape...

(Or it is a away to board other ships :D) could work both with biological ships (like maws and claws) and with techno ships

On that topic, it might be possible to engineer tractor beams. However, depending on what the ship in front of you has done to it, it may not be able to pull it due to some deflector. That being said, it might be interesting to see different variants of weapons you wouldn't think twice about.

  17. It's not a bad thing to think about. We can probably imagine weapons will do different sorts of damage to different objects. As well, it might even be possible to implement differents sorts of armor and hull to protect your ship.

This brings another point. Biological ships, as you discussed in your other post, could potentially be damaged by biological weapons.

  18. i dont know how viable the import is for probably different reasons that is beyond me honestly. But if NQ had different pre existing elements that you could work with to make a banner and a logo for the suits then it would be very easy to accomplish the same goal

Yes. It's not that hard to design a simple pixel pain program now and even if you had a 200x200 area, you could do some really detailed work.

Even if you had a picture open in another window, you could potentially copy each individual pixel and create a very detailed image.
