  1. Will there be an In-game voice? mechanic, and if not can there be a solid one? An in-game voice mechanic which allows you to talk to players that are within a certain area near you. And they can hear you louder the closer you are? And also possibly a way to amplify your voice for example if you're giving a political speech? Or something like PA speakers so you can alert your crew to abandon ship? Even something else like using ships to contact another one of your ships to give them an order or even a motivational speech?. Without an in-game voice, people would be negotiating by typing or even using software such as discord and this can be long and complicated just to talk to someone you just met. And let's say you have a meeting with a high up official who just sent you a message to meet him. Would you rather click on a discord room with him in it and talk? Or would you rather stroll down to the hanger and enter a ship and flying to the officials command ship. To then proceed to walk into his office and sit down for a meeting. This could be done similar to games like Dayz, Rust, and many others. It would really push forward how realistic cooperation between two people can go and the entire game in a whole. Update - (3/03/2018) This suggestion was made a long while ago, and during the course of that time, some interesting questions and ideas have been brought to the discussion that I would like to touch on here. This type of communication is a necessity for Dual Universe, for the scale of this game having a voice system really boosts its quality and can even make the game, Chance encounters are one of the most important and exciting moments you will experience, without a proper communication system they simply cannot be brought to their full potential. One of the largest reasons is that Dual Universe is a societal game, from nations to pirates and companies. You need a way to convey information that is easy and and connected to the game, some examples of this include traders trying to convince you to buy one of their products, a police officer asking for identification, a pirate asking for demands, a superior officer in the military giving you a quick order in an intense situation and the chance encounters that were mentioned earlier like someone who has managed to settle on the same asteroid as you or someone in the street of a large city. These examples show you why 3rd party services cannot be relied on, they take too long to configure and to hold one for an entire organisation would require a stupidly large amount of constant micro-management. A city is alive because information flows through it, cities are what keep organisations alive and if you cannot allow information to flow through a city then it results in the eventual collapse of that establishment and possibly the organisation. An in-game voice system perfectly fits into the city and maps it accordingly unlike 3rd party software. [Further Explanation of above point] For example, lets take discord and build up a small model area of a city, we have a marketplace with around 100 people trading and talking to each other, we have an area not too far away where there is a political candidate giving a speech and between them another area that is a residential building, some conversations are taking place between people looking to buy an apartment and neighbors talking to each other. Its possible at this point to create a setup in discord, you could have a voice room with everyone in it, but then you face difficulty hearing the person you are trying to listen too because everyone is the same volume, you could take the more obvious root and divide the channels into speech, market and residential but then each one has the same problem of not being able to hear the person they are talking too maybe directly calling someone is a better option but then no one can enter that conversation so you divide up the rooms again. In a sense an attempt to map the city to discord. The problem with mapping in discord is that when a new instance is created discord cannot simply be updated, lets say there is an explosion or crash nearby, a new environment has been created, for in-game voice its a matter of walking into this area to hear the new environment and for the map to be updated, you would also globally hear the effect of the crash and how it affects the market, speech and residential area. Discord cannot have a new environment in this area unless you have someone online who can create a new channel in a hurry, and even then you would not get the connected experience you would with an integrated voice system. Some common problems/points: This would put too much load on the server: It could, I'm sure if NQ puts there mind to it they can find a way around it, for example, it could become P2P. This isn't what NQ should be focusing on right now: I agree they shouldn't even look at this feature until some time before launch, or even after launch, it doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the game. This would be an annoying feature: It might be in some places, but if you are in a nation it becomes there responsibility to moderate it, there could be some settings in-game which allow you to disable it, mute specific people, adjust your hearing range etc. Thank you, this has been an interesting discussion and I hope it continues to be.
  2. Well they could add paper to the game or something you can write on and send or pass to other players. The contract part could come in as an agreement between two players. But If one of the players doesn't go by the agreement then it ruins their reputation. And therefore that will stop them from breaking the contract out of the fear that no one else would hire them for a terrible reputation.
  3. Physics might be intensive on the game. Space Engineers struggles a lot with FPS and such things because of it and I don't want to see DU with FPS issues. But basic physics that are only active on in use objects maybe? or some system around the lag?
  4. That would also be great because then people would make encryption and there would be more challenges for programmers and more possibilities.
  5. It also means separate resources for drones are not required since it can be compiled into one function. The devs wouldn't need to make separate objects, textures and sounds to make a drone block since you can already do it with regular ships if this existed.
  6. Well, it looks like the problem has reoccurred but this time as the First Order. (There can be many jokes made around this situation) They seem to be spamming the feed and directly referencing Star Wars.
  7. Well I guess messages could be sent similar to this rednet.sendpacket(id, "This is a message.") and then the id of the ship can be collected via LUA scripting. The ship can then use a function to check for packets and if found it can convert the message and process it. This could also start business's for communications companys to install communications equitment in ships. A Ship could check and enact on a message like: if rednet.read == "self destruct 44889Q" then self_destruct() end
  8. Imagine if there was functionality to contact other ships with LUA. Or even connect to them to send packets of data which can Control the ship or simply send an order. Imagine being in one ship sand sending a request to open a voice channel to speak to whoever owns it. It would be great to have some form of wireless scripting. So maybe I can send a key to a ship of mine which disables it if it's stolen? I feel this can be a creative aspect to explore as many organisation can make heavy use of it. Similar to Computercraft which is a Minecraft Mod. They use a small function known as rednet to communicate to other devices. What do you think? -Moving this suggestion to a new one with all the details + a poll.
  9. Hopefully, enough players use the bank so it can act as a deterrent in War. Hopefully, you will remain neutral meaning the funds can never be lost. Will you have an exclusion zone around your area for all military? Anyway *Raises glass*
  10. Our Military ranks are made to be fair and efficient. And the roles extend further than that but that's the main outlining.
  11. This game is aimed at having multiple fields inclusing politics and trade. And the console community is impatient in comparison (I know there are those who are but I'm talking in general). Console players are people who like to turn on their device and start playing for a few hours and leave. In dual universe you need to put in dedication and make sure everything you have is protected before leaving. A large portion of console players will also not understand the aspect of trading and politics and would rather make micro clans and destroy and raid other players creations. The community on PC is used to the concept of MMO and RP to a degree while console players are used to fighting and FPS games, not saying that console players are all FPS gamers but a large portion joining will join for the whole idea of PVP rather then the other aspects.
  12. I've started a re-design on the description to give it a pleasing look. Hopefully, it works out well.
  13. Thank you, We have recently been taking on a new direction while notifying people in our description and posts that we are using inspiration from Star Wars for our Military, Our backstory and lore for the group is completely different and we will even begin to remove most of our Star wars associated posts.
  14. We might go for a different style if needed. I don't think we will go exactly for stormtroopers but at least something with a similar feel. It depends though on how it all works.
  15. You could be extremely useful in the Empires Research and Development program. You get given the freedom to work on projects in the Facility and work with other Scientists and researches to create everything from ships to satellites to even AI. I hope to see you try this out you would be extremely useful.
  16. Just updated post with construction and the laws of ships in our territory. Thank you spaceDJ I would have never thought of it.
  17. We have it under fair use. Its more of an example, not something we claim to own. I will include credit anyway though.
  18. I take no offence. And I even feel bad every time I click the post button. But without it, the Galactic Empire faction could gain a lead with their posts flooding the main page. Most of my images are stock, that I post and some are modified. The Galactic Empire and the Empire are in a bit of friendly competition. But I will make efforts to reduce posts. And come out with the occasional one that has quality over quantity.
  19. The early founder of the Empire looked to the sky to see a future for humanity. he grew tired of the constant politics and the time it took to achieve every task. To the founder, It's a miracle that the United nations even managed to make the decision to evacuate. The founder of the Empire had a very strong hatred for the way decisions were handled in the world and the inefficiency of the construction of the Ark ships. The founder was the current CEO in a very large technological company that specialized in the Development of Weapons and space tech. The idea of a new life in the distant realm was a gift to the newly formed Imperial movement. The imperial movement begun slowly but also stayed low of the eyes of the government. The imperial movement had a large part is supplying the parts for the Ark Ships and had made deals with the production line. To be Continued.
