Some X as Y ship and base building cheats and tips

During Alpha, I found some x as y type fun additions for your ships and buildings.

Sliding doors as extending wings. 

 

Just put the doors on the horizontal plane and either program a lua board or use a linked switch in your cock pit to open/close.  When open it will look like a wing as it spread out.  

 

Note: it will not act like a wing.

 

Spiral Staircase using steel panels

 

Build a column 9 by 9  by desired height ( working off memory here, will confirm) small squares.  Place your first panel straight out, then place each subsequent panel on the last at its minimum rotation, which I think is 30 degrees.  Continue around the pillar until your desired height, remove pillar to taste.

 

Small Landing gears as Pistons (requires Lua magic)

 

Place them in a 4 by 4 (or as many as you like) banks and program lua to move alternate 'banks' out and in to give the appearance of a working combustion engine.
