  1. 1L can't get 100T out of Alioth?
    That's just weird.
For me, my 3L atmo 4L space  freighter can lift 1000T out of Alioth. But it has 12 M wings for atmo lift and doesn't use its VTOL engines when loaded.

Fly horizontally, building up speed. Once it starts to reach 1000kph, start to edge upwards to about 2.5k~3k... and level off, regaining some speed if needed (try to hit 900 or so) Then ease upwards (I go about 30 degrees) and you'll soon reach 3.6k or whatever height it is where your space engines kick in and propel you to orbit...
You don't need more than about 1G of L atmo thrust  lift to get you high up if you are using wings, but you'll need >>1G space thrust (probably >1.5G) to leave Alioth in a timely fashion without wasting too much fuel.

-- edit: the L atmo engines and space engines are buffed with "thrust handling" skills and the pilot has thrust management piloting skills.

Just think of them as pirates.

And aren't there mechanics in the game already that balance that kinda thing? For example if they're using a big L or M ship, then you can outrange them with S / XS ship with if you guys have similar weapons / radars (you'll need a gunner of course). And if they're using small ships, just make bigger ships that can outtank them.

Not to mention radars, can't you see them from 400km away (way outside any gun's range) already?

Not really, because the ships will be solely min/maxed to destroy, whereas the non pvpers will be trying to do something work related which will reduce their effectiveness and hence make them basically toast.

Also, even at 29,999 speed you can be targeted and destroyed by missiles that travel faster than DU's light speed from ships you can't even see... so having an escort is meaningless.

This is just anecdotal so I'm not preaching it as fact. But I ran with a small group during alpha. Some guys I knew from playing other games (dayz, gta 5 roleplay, etc) so not all of them were huge hardcore pvp games. Every single one of them quit during alpha and all cited the same reason (no pvp, game is boring, bored of building) they all said they would come back for beta or at least release because they did invest money. I'm in the process of trying to get them back now there is a larger pvp zone. My guess is the number is a lot higher than 50% that people want at least SOME TYPE of pvp, as pvp makes the world have meaning. If nothing ever gets destroyed (talking to you elements) by release we will have millions of engines and no one will need to buy one ever.

Quite possibly. Without having a proper, official poll with a large Response rate. It will be ahrd to say.

also, the no PvP was why many stopped playing elite, too.

they used fly around the noob zone and shoot all the beginners. When the beginners all quit open and moved in to solo, the PvPers whined for a bit and then moved on to other games.

    poor souls.

  4. It’s always fun seeing the PvPers fight for global (universal?) PvP.

In elite, the PvP crowd keep pushing, year after year, to abolish solo mode (solo mode is where you can only meet NPCs) and private group mode (invite only)...

there was a vote on ED which had over 10,000 responses about preferred roles.

exploration, trading, mining were on their own, right out in front with piracy and PvP were miles behind. Yet the PvPers were/are there like mosquitos that don’t go away, trying to force their gameplay style on everyone else.

The seal clubbing (PvPers against noobs) got so bad that FDEV were forced to create a noob only region that further divided the players into separate sandboxes, to the point where you can fly for days and not meet a single soul...

In ED PvP is pointless for anyone not 100% invested in that gameplay style because PvP centric builds will destroy anything even remotely geared towards an actual in game trade like mining or NPC bounty hunting and the only recourse is to keep jumping away from them repeatedly, which gets old real quick...

In the end, it just turns into a toxic farce with the small minority that comprises the PvPers trying to force non PvPers to fight them... and complaining when they are only accompanied by their fellow PvPers (Who they won’t fight because the potential mutual damage incurred and time lost fighting a similarly armed opponent in a PvP centric specialized build would be considered a waste) with no willing victims.

i would be curious to know what percentage of players comprise the PvP centric player base in this game, but I suspect it would be less than 50%.

  5. Surely there must be a way that anything up to, say, 200m3 in steps of 10m3 could be set as a single batch and anything over that size is performed in 200m3 batches....

but then, I’m not privy to how they set up their industry processes on their server (probably with inflexible and fixed batch sizes) and why they literally only just realised now that their current system was untenable.

  6. “Why should i play this game?”

I’ve never met you, I don’t know you. You tell me...

There are so many different reasons to choose games, and so many games to choose from; no one knows better than yourself what you want from and like in games...

since you’ve already gone and set yourself up and pre-loaded for a negative answer, anything opinionwise we say here will likely fall upon deaf ears anyway: you’ve apparently made up your mind.

So it’s a question you’re going to have to answer by yourself, IMO.

  7. Anyone know how to fix this? I spawned an old blueprint with 6 L hovers and 6 L vertical atmospheric engines. It used to hover nicely and just sip the glass but now the hovers don’t activate unless it is overloaded and it burns through its fuel in less than 30 minutes.

basically it’s relying on 6 L atmos to hover and the Hovers are disables 95% of the time.

why does NQ keep breaking things!? This used to work as expected.

  8. Really not sure why they did what they did to the login window. I’ve never seen one that obfuscated both login and password like that.

it also annoys me because I have three accounts that varied very slightly in email and password that just required a couple of letters changed in each but now I have to input the whole lot.

Also, when I come back the next day, I can’t tell who was logged in last so I have to type the email and password again or risk wasting anywhere up to 5+ minutes waiting to log in.

my beta has been generally smoother than the alpha with a few exceptions starting about three days ago (constant HTTP kicks) and yesterday, mining was down to about 1/3 regular speed with constant pending operations and a now joined by a new two-line error code I’ve never seen before.

still, this is “beta” (basically marketing term for late alpha) access, so I’m cool with that.

also in Tokyo where I live, $7 will get you a BigMac with fries and a drink upgraded to medium.

that’s a reasonable price IMO considering some of us backers paid $180 or more for an Alpha.

Well the main threat is a griefer org that RPs as religious terrorists. I don't see anyone getting safe passage from them. It remains to be seen whether escorts can actually protect you. My guess is no. But in any case, we'll be flying the cheapest possible ships to keep the replacement cost down. And flying in third person to avoid having windows breaking up the armor. Not seeing any fun here.

Pretty much what I’ve been saying all along.

as long as the triple planet safe zone remains, though, I think things will turn out fine.

IMO, they should never remove that but just create more and more planets outside of the safe zone to encourage sorties into riskier areas.

No there is no daily income.

Leaders dont get any personal benefit, at least not preset by NQ.

Most leaders i know give more to the org then they take.

The only direct advantage a org provides is a infinite core count. But each core costs to deploy and the more the org has, the more it costs.

The real benefits are on the previous post.

I was not aware of org cores costing progressively more to deploy...

    TCUs in the other hand...

  11. It wasn’t always like this. The current flight control script has nice features (hover height setting, for example) but it causes the craft to fly erratically if it has a lot

of lift, bobbing up and down and lowers the priority of the hover engines lower than that of vertical boosters - and worse - the atmospheric engines.

My Lua-foo isn’t up to snuff yet so I’m not able to fix this particular issue without going back to an older script that I kept from a couple of alphas ago.   But this loses ALT-Space and ALT-C height control.

I had hoped there was a simple fix but it appears to require Lua.

  12. I started an alt and I had to wait about 15 minutes at 100% to log in. I thought the game had crashed and was on the verge of alt-f4ing. but decided to leave it and did something else.  15 minutes later, Aphelia’s voice suddenly blurted out, surprising TF out of me.

  13.

This game being called a beta is a bit of a joke.

If you’ve seen the login screen, you will know this is just an alpha in a beta’s clothing, since a whole lot of features aren’t even in game in a basic form... ergo: alpha.

betas are supposedly nearly-final products with bug checking /balancing, tweaking and refining.

This game is still rough as a badger’s arse.

but it’s hella fun!!! 500+ hours and only a few regrets (3 complete wipes have nearly drained me of patience)

The game is all over the place at the moment. I have seen more client crashes, server disconnects and pending operation etc. today then in the last 6 month combined.

Today was pretty rough... Quite a few restarts because of "HTTP error)" or something... Never saw that during the game before (usually saw HTTP errors on login)... I think we can safely say this game and its usage environment are "in flux."

My experiance is that dying from crashing does not delete inv, but force respawn does(need a more recent test)

Very interesting... I'm not in game now, but my guy died a few of hours ago when he sat in a cockpit of his ship and it spontaneously exploded on the landing pad. I didn't think to check his inventory. Will check tomorrow.... I also have an alt... I will pick up a few litres of iron and force respawn him to see if he keeps his iron...

  16. I wish people would stop thowing their money at stuff without actually researching what it is they are throwing their money at but then expecting to be bailed out....
This is not a scam, they are not "deceiving" this is a beta....

The only thing I take issue with is NQ calling this a beta... A beta is a functionally complete bit of software that is in the lockdown phase (no additional major features) and that should undergo testing for sanity and robustness.... For all intents and purposes, this software is still just as much an alpha as it was 10 days ago.... Calling this a Beta is a marketing rather than a development decision, I'm sure.

So putting these two things together.... The company is playing fast and loose with definitions, (just like everyone does in the modern, post-truth world we live in...)  but also now more than ever, the onus is on the consumer to make sure they don't part with their money unless they are 100% happy to write it off...

    * I should know, I'm an SC kickstarter backer ?

  17. Get your inviter to send the invite to different email address... But they will have lost one invite so they will have to send a ticket to NQ to reinstate the "Lost" invite.

TBH, NQ's system of removing an invite at the point of sending the email and not at the point of the email recipient accepting said invite is a bit.... re... well, not allowed to say that word any more, but you get the idea.

Anyone with more than a couple of braincells would have made the 5 beta key invite limit cost at the point where the invitee actually accepts and not at the time of sending the email...

Alas, not all minds are created equally.

Good for you - my character is still marooned and free floating in pvp space because there is apparently an issue with exiting the tutorials if you run out of material. I can't do anything but look at a star field...

    Can’t you respawn?
