  1. I don't know about wearing suits of armour but i do know that Mechs are confirmed, I would link the thread with the confirmation but i can't seem to find it. It was confirmed by Nyz as he was asked about the possibilities of the game and if Mechs would be possible.

Basically he said that anything you can think of creating would be in some way possible if you can manage to get it to work with the ingame tools and lua, and he continue to list a bunch of things that were thought to be already possible and that included mechs.

For the other parts i'm unsure about.

However, Overgrowth, really, has that game not come out yet?. I bought that game like 5+ years ago and it didn't seem to make anything of itself even though it boasted all the nice things that people would want at the time, like climbing, dynamic character reactions and such. Shame it didn't turn into anything and was more of a glorified tech demo :(

    nora,

  2. I just found out about this game, and im excited to see that an online community is already growing. I have played Mmo's for many years and have been hoping for a game similar to this.

I haven't had the chance to read through all the dev blogs just yet but definitely on my list of things to do. A lot about this game I have been searching for in a game for years. I have in the past always played medieval and fantasy mmos but have been hoping for a grand space mmo such as this that is more than just flying a ship. I look forward to making new friends and perhaps enemies in the days to come.

if I had to give myself a play style, id say that id probably be part research/explorer and combatant. tend to be a solo player but also love being in large groups for major offenses

Welcome to the DU community. You seem to have a similar play style to me, but i tend to eventually go into the stealth spy taking people out before they see me route after a while.

Like you've said in your post, you have the devblogs on the list, i would suggest that first for anyone wanting to know about DU, devblogs will be where the most 100% confirmed information is, then it's the forum posts about the devblogs. Usually there is a snippet or two around the forum devblog posts that have been pulled out by the forum posters after publishing :)

But yes, i hope you enjoy your stay with us in DU and i look forward to see you in game.

    nora,

  3. Hello to all my fellow Eve, Minecraft, Space Engineers, people trying to find a better game to play.

A little about me, I'm 39 years young from the great state of Texas and have played games for several years and have always wanted to play a game that keeps me interested.

I was always tired of playing games that you could use cheat codes to get ahead, then a buddy of mine got me hooked on eve online. I have done everything from mining to pvp/pve to marketing in high sec low sec null sec and worm hole space. I have seen my share of glory and defeat.

I took a long break from Eve when the grind became a job instead of enjoyment and switched to vanilla Minecraft then to modded Minecraft. I eventually wound up playing Space Engineers and loved it. Loved it so much I spent a 36 hour weekend wrecking a huge base on a buddy's server.

Then came Star Citizen, Elite dangerous, and No Mans Sky all of which looks promising in there own unique way. I enjoyed Elite for a time until Horizons came out and found myself disappointed on the pick and choose a planet to land or the lack of guidance for doing missions.

I still play some of the games today when work time and family time allows whoever with out the passion and crave of the past.

DU looks to offer a ton of features from my past gaming experiences all rolled into one and I look foreword to following the progression.

Thanks and happy gaming to all!

Welcome TBagger... Hmm, remind me to never lose to you in a gun fight, i have a feeling of what might happen after ;)

Your right about DU being a collective hive of all the other space games out today, and do you know what the nice thing about it is.. That's just the things we know about currently. Think of all the wonderful things that the devs have planned for the long run or the things they have done but havn't even mentioned about.

Oh DU will be incredible i think, and i can't wait to see what everyone makes of it :)

but yes, welcome to the forums and the DU community, enjoy your stay with us.

    nora,

  4. I just heard about Dual Universe today by accident when I was visiting Steam and I found this name been tossed around in comparison to No Man's sky,

It picked my attention so I decided to pay a visit and I like what I see and what the devs are proposing.

I am an older player 52 soon to be 53 years old, love space exploration, archaeology so I must sure will follow a path of an astro-archaeologist seeking out signs or evidences of alien or old civilizations through out the universe.

Those are my 2 loves and well of course the lady in my life who makes me whole.  :P

Welcome to the DU universe, by the sounds of it you will make a fine addition to the community that is being created here on the forums.

You're in luck for the exploration side of things, as the universe is supposed to be infinite so there will be plenty of nooks and crannies for you to look into, however we don't fully know what will be in the little pockets of the universe so you'll have to hold out a little while to find that out.

There will be alien things we know but how massive or game changing they are is still unconfirmed also.

I feel like i've just give you a list of unconfirmed things to welcome you into the forums.. hmm.. i should work on that..

Anyway, welcome :) Enjoy your stay..

    nora,

  5. There he goes with his links again. Its like he has them all stored in a speed holster or hotkey.

Anyway, yes as he said there will be some. Several of us have discussed having Ark ships that are found and activated to give new protected zones as well as spawn areas for noobs. And my personal favorite is to have an Ark AI go rogue as an NPC enemy. That could give plenty of backstory to the artifact sites.

It is assumed that the sites will give rare drops. Things like blueprints and the possibility of an Ark token used to Arkify an area of your choosing. But the Devs are still discussing this feature.

Well i have to have my uses somewhere ;).. I only wish i had the time to properly reply to all the people who have found us from E3, I need to do my duty!

Also, my holster is full of nice things, like:

    This: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/523-ark-spawning/

    and: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/311-dual-universe-lore-part-5/

    :)

    nora,

  6. Welcome to the forums, nice long post for your first post :)

However, I don't see a point in the post, it feels to me as a description of what the real world works like and not a method of applying that to the DU universe. Unless you mean adding in methods to manage different sections of politics and economy above what is described which would be in an effort to match what the real world is?.

I just feel that your post is requesting limitations to the proposed system of DU's emergent game play.

Currently if i want to set up any kind of politics and laws in a region i simply have to dictate that that is the way i want this region to work, and if you decide to go against the laws then i will offer you punishment in return.

That in essence offers enough freedom to run any kind of political agenda that you want. If you want all ships to be green, then police it and force people to make them green.

If you want everyone to pay for items in Stone Blocks, then make it so in your area.

I feel that putting in a way to manage any political system or economic system in the game would restrict it to what the devs decide to put in and not allow people to create there own methods and systems. Yes you could still do it, but why do it different that what is already decided by the game itself ? Why would i try to follow 'Route B' when 'Route A' is already paved ?

I don't know if i might have understood your post correctly, but that is my two cents. If i've misinterpreted anything, just let me know and i'll adjust my response :)

Other than that, welcome to DU, i hope you enjoy your stay here.

    nora,

  7. We would be glad to have you! I'll forward the discord details when I get home from work.

Apologies, but in my opinion using discord has just killed my interest in your organisation. I have used it and I despise it in comparison to Teamspeak and (dare i say it) skype.

The community i belong to used it on the launch of Black Desert because there were issues with out teamspeak host, never again will i use it if there is a available alternative unfortunately.

I do stick by my original comment though about your organisation looking good and having a interest in it, but I just can't... not discord.

    Apologies.

    nora,

  8. Me feedback/suggestion:

So what I am thinking is, pay2play model wins with an exception. If this "PLEX" or whatnameyouhave would be worth not common currency but some kind of mid-end game currency/tokens. With that, Larger corporations or rich players will still be able to buy subscription for in-game currency but at same time IRL rich people will not have much adventage in game from starting point. Or people who get anyone else's account (hack, data leak) would not be able to monetize their assets unless they are far in-game themselves and at same time would have something to lose if they attempt to grief.

For example, PLEX would be worth premium currency which you can spend on paint job, renaming and whatnot in in-game store. People far in tech would be able to manufacture those rare tokens allowing them to either buy subscription or cosmetics from in-game shop. There could be limit on how many token you can produce which could allow corporation to reimburse players or buy things from shop but not both - and maintenance/activity would be required (no passive infinite production).

Ofcourse that would require lot more game changing and balance but could be viable option for pay2play model.

I'm going to say no to this, for a few reasons.

This sounds like a 'premium package' that i despise in games. You buy a plex and cash it in for premium currency and you can now get top end items that others struggle to or can't get as they are not as large or powerful. This could cause a upset to balance in the game.

This idea would give rise to unmanaged 'gold selling', if the plex idea doesn't affect all currency you might as well not have it as you will gain gold sellers selling the lower value currency outside the game allowing the IRL rich people to still have a advantage over other people but a larger advantage because not all people would have access to a trusted gold seller. I associate third party gold buying as cheating/hacking. I'd prefer the plex idea to cover all currency then DU/NQ can monitor it and adjust it as needed to make it fair.

Getting anything that normally can't be gained unless you buy/sell plex is bad bad bad idea. This would give a premium player base that has things other cannot get and I personally would hate this. I'm not paying more money than the general playerbase to get something that should be included in the game anyway and that other people have. I would understand this if the game was F2P or B2P but not P2P, if i'm paying a subscription monthly for a game i want to only be paying this subscription everything else should come with the game.

Plex in my mind should simply a way to combat gold sellers and that's it, if there is another option to combat gold sellers available i would prefer there to be no plex at all, same as there being no ingame store (unless it's purchasable by only ingame currency).

    Side Note:

I think Organisations wouldn't really buy the plex unless there is a benefit to the overall organisation, which organisation would buy plex just for a single person in the organisation to have more game time. Organisation leaders could use this or abuse this i suppose but this will happen either way with or without your idea, just something i thought of.

    nora,

p.s. writing this on my break so might make sense or it might not, but i had to be quick to i havn't re-read it at all :(

  9. Interesting post. But i must decline your idea of 2 types, i hope that there are several types of storage not just for different types of items/materials but for different amounts.

Like your idea there could be a trade off of size, capacity, power, ect for different storage devices. But instead of their only being two there could be several (or infinite) where you can have:

A small cargo hold that has high capacity but requires a MASSIVE amount of power to do anything and is expensive.

A large cargo hold that has high capacity but requires a Small amount of power because it's bigger in size and would be cheaper.

So basically like a procedural cargo hold, you dictate it's size and power consumption and it throws back out a capacity that it can store. Once placed or designed it is a fixed element or it could be a variable element.

If you supply more power than it requires then you could get more capacity out of a cargo hold than you would normally.

Not really sure if any of that makes sense, I went through like 6 different ideas in my head all at the same time.

But yeah, i hope that there is more than just a handful of ideas, that is if the KadPaks aren't infinite, i don't think we have a confirmed 'max capacity' of the kadpak only that it's on your belt and you store things in it.

    Time will tell though :)

    nora,

  10. If they put in the effort to make biomes, planets, they will put in the effort to make planets go around stars and moons go around planets.

Not quite the same thing to implement i think.

You have to understand that it is a universe game, not just a galaxy, not just a solar system. Each part of the universe will have some influence on another part of the universe (if it follows real life at least) so what i mean is that:

    Players are on Planets/moons

    Moons Orbit Planets

    Planets are parent to Moons

    Planets orbit Stars

    Stars are parent to Planets

    Stars Orbit the Galaxy Center

Galaxy Centres (might) move around teh Universe

Then with the Quantum Devices proposed we could have a multiverse, like being able to hack into the RN's

    ect

You have orbital planets, moons or anything with a player or player made construct on it, then you need to incorporate that into the calculations somehow.

If there is orbiting mechanics that do this, then that would be awesome both for trying to find your way around the universe and that trying to land on a planet becomes more than simply 'point in this direction', you would need to plan your route to the planet and know where it's going to be (leading to better systems of navigation or tracking, but that's a different topic), heaven forbid if you want to change solar system. Not even kerbal has that kind of game play.

There is some discussions on the forums about it, the following is one of them. But like the others said, we just don't know enough about how the game would work to answer and orbital physics at the moment.

    nora,

  11. I would certainly be in for some good voice acting and dialogue, even if it is just Aphelia, who I am assuming is female.

But who would voice a AI that has the ability to have any voice you want it to have?.....

"“Do you desire a change in vocal register? We can offer you the voice of your mother, your brother, seven of your Terran friends, or a star of your choice. Do you have a preference?”"

  12. I think it would be cool to find artifacts. They could tell a story about a certain colony or previous explorers?

I don't know about artifacts that tell of previous explorers or colonies but i know there will be monuments or monoliths from a ancient race that could give you items and loot if you find them.

Although its not 100% confirmed but it is written in the lore of DU so i would assume it has a good chance of making it into the game :)

    nora,

  13. A little background: I'm a father of three (23, 15 and 7), a Linux systems engineer / sysadmin, an avid gamer, preferring co-op over deathmatch any day, and I've operated a gaming community since the release of Quake 1. (No I will not be promoting it on here, please do not ask.)

I'm also a rabid fan of space / survival games (preferably both at the same time).

I hail from beautiful Denver, Colorado in the US.

I hope to become a useful member of the Community, and Game world here. (helpful at the least, I'll settle for generally accepted though.)

Welcome to DU, I'm also part of a community outside of DU full of gamers, but like yourself I choose not to promote it either. Not that there is anything wrong with it, if people want to know they are more than welcome :)...

I'm from the UK, so nice to know that DU is reaching all the way over into the states more and more..

But yeah, I'm waffling, Welcome to DU, Enjoy your stay..

    nora,

  14. I'm not wanting to shoot down your post or anything, but you picked a bad time to post this. There was the announcement of a standalone section of the website or a website by itself that would be used for organisations and clans. So you can recruit and manage your organisations using that instead of the forums, that was the announcement during E3 that Nyz was mentioning also, I can't wait to find out what it's like.

Standalone organisations website would be very handy, specially if it had private forums for each organisation and potentially a voice/text instance chat :)

    nora,

  15. Well them two seem to have wrapped up the whole topic nicely and now i feel like the only thing left to do is to Welcome you to the forums.

So, Welcome to the forums :)

I would like to add though that when you claim an area using a TU you can not only claim the areas on the planet surface, but you will be able to claim space. So there is nothing stopping your from taking your idea of having a large bustling city on the planet to just simply creating your own planet (near enough) that you can control and develop over time too.

Just think of building a cybertron or curosaunt.. (damn spelling).. you will be able to do that once you are in space. Which i think is awesome, especially when you consider space stations and constructs are one and the same, so you would be able to fly your planet base around, and settle it into a new orbit if you like.

Moon Base one doesn't just have to orbit earth if you make it yourself ;)

    nora,

  16.

One question about the constructs and DPU devices... Where will they be executing?  On the user's local machine if they are in the area, or is there a hosted cloud / server service for processing all of these DPU events?

My question is largely because if run locally, the effectiveness of DPU code would be higher on machines they have stronger CPU power, giving a possible advantage to more powerful machines as they theoretically can run more DPUs at once without lagging down the game.

Hmm, but what if you manage to find a way to break into the DPU using third party programs or tools and have a way to manipulate the lua outside of the protection of DU servers?..

I understand your question, but my concern is about it being safe, I'm more than happy for it all to remain on the server if it means that nasty people can't cheat. But as we don't know the in depths parts of your question i'll leave it to Nyz to respond correctly to you.

If they manage to make a locked system on a local machine, what does that mean for people who don't have the greatest of machines in comparison to those who have top-end machine. They would be limited in their game play by how good their computer is. I don't know if i would enjoy that. I have a top-end machine, but i don't want to win or have the advantage simply because i'm capable of doing more lua/dpu things than other people.

If that makes sense. I like things to be fair, and i think having local machines would imbalance it.

    nora,

  17. The devs could have their own method, or they could have hand built. If you hadn't noticed the big ship featured in the pictures is a Daedalus class BC from Stargate. It is either the early model of the Daedalus or the Hammond/Icarus. Having trouble pinning down the source of the original design.

I'd love the ability to import my own model, but it could cause problems as mentioned in another thread on the matter.

Those with better design tools get an advantage, although I wouldn't say eneough to worry. The bigger problem is peopleaking money off someone else work. I could do your model or some random one and upload it as my own design.

I know that thread, and i still stick by what i said in it, that there should be no method to import and works into the game via third party programs. It gives people a unfair advantage as they have better tools to design and create there ships and can do it using professional tools like blend, autodesk, ect ect ( I don't know many tools)..

I just can't seem to find the thread, and this annoys me, usually i can find any thread. Bah, i might just be tired, if i think on i'll have to come back and link it, but there is a thread out there somewhere that has a discussion on the importing objects into DU and peoples suggestions on why we should or shouldn't do it :)

  18. I imagine I will take a similar path. Start a clan shall we, partners one could say?

I would hold off on any Clan creations for the moment, as was said during E3 there will be a dedicated DU place for Clans to be formed and maintained either on the DU website or a standalone website.

I wouldn't say no to organising it, but i would hold off on any websites or teamspeaks till we know more about what NQ are planing to do with their 'clan/organisation website' thing :)

  19. Emotes came up a while back and it got some good feedback. The NovaQuark community manager, Nyzaltar, responded positively, asking for some emote ideas. You should check the thread and add your specific emote ideas. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/366-emotes-sitting-on-chairs-leaning-against-a-wall-more/

I'm going to be a dear and add to your link here by showing a tweet of emotes in action. Yes it's only a screen shot but it shows that emotes are 100% in the game already.. Link: https://twitter.com/dualuniverse/status/738077235211538432

  20. Honestly Nora, you seem to have tabs on every single member and thread on the forums.

Welcome to Dual Universe, both of you!

That's because 'I AM THE FORUMS'.... I told you about my sneaky sneaky side though didn't i, and you seem surprised by my being everywhere :)

  21. Welcome, I know what excitement you share, we all feel that way about DU, I think we all share that desire for the true space game that you share a universe with players.

Other games have come close, like Eve, SE, Elite ect ect, but none i think give you the freedom of building and flying that DU is described as going to give. The universe is your playground :)

But yeah, Welcome, and enjoy your stay, you are now one of us and will never leave :)

    nora,

  22. I think we probably can't say too much about what kind of speeds we can expect from the trailer.  The planet and moon are located really close together in the pre-alpha, I guess for testing purposes.  They could have done the same thing with speed - have their ships fly really fast.  It's what I would do if I were making the game!

40m/s is definitely way too slow for an aircraft or spacecraft.  I'm also hoping acceleration is the major limiting factor in space flight, but we'll have to see what NQ can pull out the bag.

Well given that there is confirmed FTL and StarGates, I'm betting that the possibility of having a uncapped speed limit are quite possible. Especially that the constructs you make are solid, not separate parts like what SE had, once it's made it is a single entity in itself so that it can travel at top speed i imagine.

But like you say, we'll have to wait to see what NQ come up with, I'm hoping that the speeds are not limited at all, acceleration depends on your thrusters and topspeed is infinite (in game terms).

  23. The planets are made from the same voxels as what your ships will be made of, giving you the same destructibility that you will have on any of your ships. The planets however will be procedurally generated, given that there is a suspected infinite amount of planets that you can visit from Alioth, having the devs create each and everyone one would be a nightmare ;)

So to answer your question, the universe will be infinite and the planets will created with on point manipulation/destruction procedurally and have different biomes that you can visit. However there has been notes of the centres of planets being off limits.

The way they are able to do this without lag is by allocating server performance to the areas that need it most, so if there is only 1 person in a solar system that solar system will not get a solar system size portion of the server, but if there is 10,000 people in one building that building itself will get a solar system size portion of the server just to run the building spreading out from there to the surround area.

I don't know if i answered your question correctly, but there is a bunch of information in a DevBlog about some of this and on the forums :)

    nora,
