To prefix this, this is primarily a discussion page to talk about various ways to monetize this beloved game called Dual Universe, while weighing pros and cons. Considering many people don't understand why things are done, or perhaps the business people within the company haven't thought of a few of the ideas perhaps to be mentioned in this total thread, here it goes. None of any posts in this thread are considered the whole picture, more as a combination of all the thoughts given, including this initiation post To start, we are going with the backer method from pre-alpha/alpha. This method was to kickstart/crowdfund the game. There were 60, 120, and 180 USD packages, which gave increasing in value rewards in game. Pros: Good for the players, they only have to pay once, and have various ways of supporting if they want to Gives some nice benefits for choosing different packages Cons: Requires constant intake of players to maintain the game, especially the immense server costs and dev pay Might give way to the hated micro transactions Might be considered pay-to-win, even if it is minor The second method is similar to the first method, but with jacked up prices to make each player "support the game for more". Packages for example could be + 20-40 USD. Pros: Supports the devs more Players only have to invest in the game once Gives some nice benefits for choosing better packages. Less likely to create micro transactions (unless the upper management gets greedy that is) Cons: Still requires constant intake of players to maintain the game, especially server costs and dev pay. Might be more considered pay-to-win Costs a LOT Current subscription method, without DACs implemented. (7 USD a month, 21 USD packages) Pros: Keeps development going much longer maintains server costs per player (each player chips in for what data they are changing on the server VERY unlikely to create micro transactions (unless management are extremely greedy) Cons: the HATE for subscriptions No bonuses for pouring in extra money Upkeep that nags at the back of your mind, reminding you to not enjoy Dual Universe, but to pay up so you don't loose access to potentially play the game Becoming the joke of the space sims (bad PR) Current subscription method, WITH DACs implemented. Same subscription model, but when you buy subscription have the choice of redeeming them as in game items which can be traded using in game markets. Pros: You can "unlock" subscription time by GRINDING cash, depending on the demand Helps the person who's selling them get some in game cash Emerging "gameplay" Keeps development going longer because it's still subscription based. Cons: Pay-to-win still a subscription model UPKEEP (as previously mentioned) Still horrible PR, now for the pay-to-win aspect Enforcing the Elite Dangerous mentality "Grind is Gameplay" (not true btw) Hybrid model of DACs and subscriptions, or you can pay expensive package once to get permanent access. Pros: Players can choose to pay a limited time subscription to try out the game, without dropping an OBSCENE amount of money If you want to go subscription method, you can "unlock more subscription time". Potential to increase the income per person monthly for continued development Cons: Confusing business model Still subscription based PR might get confusing, but less negative Still kinda pay-to-win Hybrid model 2.0, but instead with more lenient subscription model. Includes DACs in this scenario, however, the pros and cons of them could be removed if taken out of the equation: Account subscription only ticks down while logged onto the server, encouraging players to make the most of their time spent, while also having a player-determined time bomb on their account. Pros: Each person's subscription lasts longer Only counts down while in game Encourages players to put less strain on the server from logging in Players can use the time they are spending in game extremely effectively, by grinding DACs using in game money. Encourages developers to optimize the heck out of the player data and voxel storage method (more in the cons) Cons: Less effective for dev-income DACs still exist subscription method, while less bad, still exists "Meh" PR Server needing upkeep for storing players' data and constructs, while them not paying for having it on the server That's what I have for now, I do plan to update this now and again depending on if people have new ideas, and/or if I think of something else.

Sierra Corporation ** Currently Recruiting ** About The Sierra Corporation is an organisation that provides trade and private military services. We promise to help new traders in the universe to show their potential and provide a deluxe living environment in our territory. We also strive to lower the prices of all our products to give our customers a great deal. The Sierra Corporation is ran by me (StormEagle). I've been the leader and staff of/in clans before. I am an experienced and skilled leader and I have been told this many times by the people I've been in clans with in the past. I also have a good grasp of money and can make a lot of it in games. It's not just money I'm good with I'm also a good fighter. This is why I wanted to make the Sierra Corporation a combination of a PMC and trade company. The Sierra Corporation will be more involved when the game has fully come out (I'm not interested in playing the alpha or beta). Board of Executive Chairmen: Primary shareholders who collectively vote to make large executive decisions on behalf of SOE. Departmental & Workforce Positions Department Head: Lead representative from respective departments. Overall in charge work & contracting withing their department. Reports to Board of Executive Chairmen. Division Head: Deputy representatives to the Department Head. Organizes and supervises specific work actions of their designated division. General/Special Workforce: This is the heart of Source One Industries. It is the largest bracket of positions within the corporation, members of this bracket range from beginners to subject matter/technical experts in their field(s). Most of the work is accomplished through this bracket. Note: Positional /Rank descriptions will be further outlined in each individual department description. Departments: Department of Services: Provides logistics, resource harvesting/processing, internal-mass production, and external-contracted-mass production. Department of Research & Development: Responsible for Planetary/Space exploration, and technology research/design. Department of Security: Provides internal/outsourced asset protection, mission security, security consulting, law enforcement contracting, and privatized military contracting. Department of Services Source One Enterprises' backbone of all trade. This department provides basic logistics and product management. Personnel assigned to this department are responsible for various resources, products and services such as: Resource Mining/Gathering Resource Processing/Refinement Product Mass Production Structure Fabrication Product/Resource Accounting Product/Resource Shipping Positions: Head of Services: The Head of Services is responsible for the overall logistics of resource harvesting/processing, construction, production and shipping. Ensures projects, contracted or otherwise, remain on time and up to standard. Division Heads: Head of Materials: Ensures logistics of materials/resources are well met. Organizes projects for resource/material gathering or trade, and ensures resources/materials are readily available for use in production projects. Head of Production: Organizes projects for structure fabrication or product/construct/ship production. Department of Research & Development Innovation happens here. Personnel assigned to this department are responsible for researching new technologies and further developing current designs. Also for the further exploration of new/discovered worlds. Responsibility examples are: Planetary/Space Exploration Locate/Discover Resources Product/Construct/Ship/Structure Design Product/Construct/Ship/Structure Scripting Positions: Head of Research & Development: The Head of Research & Development is overall responsible for ensuring projects develop/advance/refine technologies are maintained. Also for the further exploration of new/discovered worlds. Division Heads: Head of Research & Exploration: Responsible for organizing exploration missions in order to locate new/valuable resources, planets and technologies. Head of Design: Ensures the development of cutting edge and practical ships/constructs/products designs to be sold or produced by Source One Enterprises. Head of Engineering: Ensures the organization of projects which new technologies & scripts are developed. Also ensures projects which existing technologies & scripts are advanced or refined to be more efficient or reversed engineered(External Technologies&Scripts). Department of Security Where peace is promoted, but violence is excelled. Personnel assigned in the Department of Security are professionals of all skill levels provide a variety of services such as: Asset Protection Mission Security Security Consulting Law Enforcement Contracting Private Military Contracting Positions: Head of Security: The Head of Security is responsible for ensuring the overall security of Source One Enterprises is well maintained and kept. Also responsible for ensuring security/martial contracts are held to the highest standard. Division Heads: Chief of the Guard: Ensures all defensive security of assets/missions/law enforcement can be met and properly maintained, contracted or otherwise. Chief of Martial Actions: Activated only when conducting Martial(offensive/military) Actions against an asset, opposing force, or organization, contracted or otherwise. Note: All departments will eventually develop sub-divisions as the corporation expands Joining Source One Enterprises Here at Source One Enterprises, we welcome all aspiring businessmen, scientists, explorers and professions who want to be part of something bigger. Note: If you want a high ranking management position (Department Head, Division Head, etc.) you should be aware that this means a lot of work for you and time is expected to be consumed. It is expected that you should have decent management skills and an increasing level of knowledge based on your position. The above mentioned positions are 18+ exceptions considered on case by case basis. If you want a position in security, you should be aware that you are expected to be disciplined and know to how follow orders. Expect allotted times in which are solely dedicated to conducting security-based jobs depending on your contract and the mission at hand. Contracts will differ based on the agreement between member and SOE. Jobs in security will probably seem the most mundane depending on your task, but you are still expected to adhere to your duties. The upside is that security contracts will have very generous pay and other benefits. Contracts/Employment(Subject to Change) Contracts are formal agreements which will be the primary means of conducting business/employment. General Contract of Employment: A monthly auto-renewing Contract(unless otherwise stated). Here will be defined as your general position within a department/division/subdivision in which you have chosen to work or be a part of. Outlined will be the conditions of work (ie; Minimum/Target/Over-Target for resources/product amounts or service hours) in order to receive the contracted pay. All work that you perform which exceeds target or meets over-target threshold shall be compensated. You are paid for the work you do. Special Contract of Employment: A monthly auto-renewing Contract(unless otherwise stated) which entitles salary based pay. A special contract is established based on your contribution of specialized skill, trade or position(ie; Research/Design/Scripting/Management). Here will be defined as your general position within a department/division/subdivision in which you have chosen to work or be a part of. Note: Personnel are not limited to a singular contract, and multiple contracts are authorize and encouraged. Added, a person receiving salary may also conduct work of a general contract and receive additional pay. Positions/Ranks (Available Positions) General Workforce: Your duties are based on the agreement of your contract, otherwise your freedom is your own. You shall also be covered by the security of Source One Enterprises and its affiliates(subject to situation). You are paid for the work you do. Special Workforce: Like members of the General Workforce, your duties are based on the agreement of your contract, but to include varying added responsibilities from a Special Contract which entitles you to a salary based pay. You are paid for the technical skills you offer. Workforce Management: You are a 'titled' management employee of Source One Enterprises, therefore you receive a salary as a member of the company. You will have in varying degrees of responsibility based on your management position. You are paid for the technical and management skills you offer.
