  1. well is food is going to be in game then some sort of state of the art hydroponic farms fr geneticaly modified super food would make sence. Not farming in general as we know it today - in open land ect. You could even have a hydroponics module in an exploration ship... that actualy would be cool!

  2. Building with voxel doesn't take months. Neither LUA scripting. We'll start slowly mostly just because we'll need to train skills.

You might want to read the post I was refering to with this, instead of just straight on denying. It depends what you build and so the time is just as a reference point helping to get better perspective.

  3. Well you do not need to design it in real game space, you can do it in this virtual world space - 100% safe and then build from blueprint. You can also test it there and so on, there was no mention how ever if a group of people could join the same virtual space and work on the same design at the same time.

  4. Well on the bright side were it might take months to build the forst prototype it will be farely easy to build the second one providing you have materials. Because you will already have a blueprint, you will not need to build it voxel by voxel again. Neither you will need t omake a new Lua script.

  5. Something no-one has really brought up is the possibility of an item that gives you more ingame time being released, which I think I heard something about. That would allow multiboxers to mine and earn enough to support their other accounts without pay to win... potentially making this style of gameplay more common.

They did say they whant to introduce something like PLEX in eve, item that gives you game time that you can buy for money or for in game currecy from other players

  6. well what ever way you put it but player council to inluence developing how ever nice it sounds makes no sence, you can never satisfy everyone. There will always be the loosing side etc. Also council to decide which buildings to destroy!? COM ON guys! there is no way to awoid bias, and even if there would be non (what is unlikely provided council consists of people actively playing the game) the rest would still like there is.

  7. This matter should just be dealt with by dev's or a dedicated in game admin wich every game has. That way biased destruction is avoided, there will always be a resposible person looking after the game. And starter zone is not alot to cover.

also we might still hear from the dev's how did they plan to deal wit hit, surely they have though of it by now.

  8. How come all EVE players are pretty much multiboxing anti-social people who want to play alone and be unstoppable?

    Every single time.

"I want my small time, 1 man army multiboxing corporation to have the same strength as those 200 guys who work together.  Why not add safe zones everywhere, like EVE? What? This game is not EVE 2.0. and I should stop asking for EVE mechanics in a game that is NOT EVE? I should L2P and learn to not play MMOs if I can't even stand other people? Oh dear, this guy telling me these thing, he is toxic. How dare he call me out on my bullshit?"

Dude honestly what the hec is your problem? generalising, mucking and stereotyping da heck are you trying to do here? Nobody is asking to imprelement eve like mechanics, unless you call asking for it a discussion of differences. This is what we do here TALK about stuff. Thats what people do, not lash out to different minded or different thinking, that is the social way.

  9. I'm a pve player, I enjoy building kickass defense and waiting for pvp players to wreck themselves on my defense, while I continue building what I want.

    @SledgeHammer

you make an excellent point, that is the only thing that can be frustrating. I cannot adjust my defense if I'm not home while somebody is attacking me 5 to 6 times a night just to get through my defense.

I was hoping that for smaller factions they may consider some form of invulnerability for the area if All the of the faction members are offline.

Not away from the base, only offline.

Arcification tokiens - they are still deciding how it will work, but esentialy you can designate an area of your choise as no pvp area.

  10. So you bring EVE, Planeside 2, Mech Warrior together into 1 game, but still the same PvP slaughter house game play over players' hours of "Mindcraft"-ing, whats the difference? As someone who left EVE after 2-1/2 yrs, I do not see how this game is going to attract new players.

I'v been dreaming of a game that promices as much as DU while playing eve, flying a carrier that can actualy have fleet maintenance bays with real ships landing in mids battle for emergency repairs, ammo... Where the stuff you make is build in a factory you or your comrades have constructed. Where do not need to through a star gate to fly to nother system hence "gate camps" are not viable (gate camps are the most retarded things in eve, its booring if you camp it, its frustrating if you land in one no one wins)

I can see many reasons for players to be atracted, that was just a few of my own.

  11. And as anywere it is much harder to defend your property if you are not there, no matter how sofisticated the defences are a good organised offence will eventualy over run it. But that were the MMO element comes in, have ppl from differnet time zones etc.

Its very hard to get the balance right, but testing might help in the future stages.

  12. Question: Why would you guys want to leave EVE and come to play this game, if the end result is the same style of game play?

Well end result might be similar but not the same. How ever priciples of how to survive and flourish are the same.

Mainly eve is finite, its limited (its great but for the love of god its 13 years old), what can be better than to fly your own built ship with custom scripted defences. Or creat your own mega weapons?

Plus DU is not coming out for a while so I will keep playing eve untill then.

Arcified safe zones sounds a bit more secure than high sec in eve, it also leaves the space lawless as uncharted frontear should be. Wild wild space :)

  13. I'd actually rather it not favor either side, I enjoy playing both sides (PvP and PvE). But the fact is that 95% of survival multiplayer games favor the attacker over the defender. All I'm saying is that if a player spends a month building a single ship, that ship should not be destroyed to the point of not being repairable in a 10-second battle or even a 5 minute battle. If it requires that type of time investment, it should hold up bet

Well DU is not a survival game that one thing. But maby in those susrvival MMO's you are talking about attacking players are simly better at it.

If you spend a month building a ship that in fact you should not be useing it for what ever the reason they you will certainly loose it. If you use it wrong you should and you will loose it in a short time.

Plus time spent on building something is a bad indicator how "good" that something should be, somebody can spend 4 months saving for a capital ship on his own, or a corporation can build the same one in 2 days and then you can loose it imediately and that corp might use it for another year. Is 2 days the corporation spent building it mean that it should be that much worse compared to your 4 months investment?

Do not fly what you cannot afford to loose! ;)

  14. I gues the right need for food mechanic would not be a deal breaker for me, but I sincerely hope there will not be a need to eat and drink ir order to stay alive.

Haveing fuel to run ships etc is a need and that could be the limiting factor for ship design and travel distance and so on. But I would realy hate to not forget to pack my sandwich before going to shoot some stuff. I just do not whant to be worried about these pesky details about primitive human needs on a sanbox universe.

  15. While true, but the ship balance is a total whack and lacking in EVE. I can gunk your 2B Tech-3 PvE setup ship using a 100K Tech 1 PvP ship with ease. Even if I do not gain anything, just the mere fact that I can and and the result of you to losing 2B isk is often enough for people to do it.

To attract, as well as to keep them playing, the devs from DU needs to build and prevent this into their game balance. Players will not stay with this game if what took them 10 hours to build can be consistently trashed within minutes, be it ships or buildings.

Well your numbers of this suiccide ganking comparison are not true unfortunately, for a number of reasons.

First of as you said its a pve ship - it is not prepared to fight other players.

Second you would probably need about 15-25 "suiccide gankers"  each costing about 4-9mil depending on what you are useing, an also each of those gankers will need to be well skilled because a 1 month carachter will not cut it here.

If you are ganking at higher level your ship might cost 60-75 million and you might need more than one, so it has te be calculated, ganking for profit is not an easy task.

Now if that "victim" ship is made for pvp how ever assuming he knows what he is doing this would be completely different story without going in to particulars. Ships in EVE are some of the best balanced content I have seen in any game - it makes you realise that for every job there is a tool and you have to use the right one.

If a player spends 10 hours or even 1 month building what he thinks is an amazing inovation but then gets trashed in 2 mins well that just proved how wrong he was, or he did it in a wrong place, or wrong time, or didnot have right backup, or a million other reasons. And if that happens consistently well then as Einstein has said: "Stupidity is doing same thing and expecting different results"

  16. This is the natural problem with any sandbox open world free PvP game tho; hence my push for PvP:PvE balance that must be put in by the devs, but yet, goes against the nature of "sandbox".

In your statement, the game is the playground, but since this is open world free PvP, there is no one to order/police around that the older kids must play nice to the new younger kids to the play around.

One serious question I have for those calling open world free PvP. If this game goes that route, what makes this game different then EVE Online other then the Mindcraft features? For those that left EVE Online, why would they want to come here and play this game? For those that are still playing EVE, why would they want to come play this game? The truth is from what I am seeing in the forums so far, I do not sense this game being any better/different then EVE.

I play eve, I have 5 accounts, currently useing only 4, and pvp with 1. Others are for industry, missions and other carebearing stuff and I enjoy all of it. I simply whant to be efficient with my time in game and RP in my own way. I do not need to follow RP metagame or what ever, for me I can be 5 characters all at once.

The idea is somewhat similar to EVE, apart from that it sounds like DU will be alot different and alot more sandboxy. It is far too much to cover why DU is differnet but if you play and read about DU's dev blog I can very much say that it will apeal to you. DU if it delivers will simply be the next step in gameing - complete freedom. In eve you can not build your land base, cannot desine your ship, cannot script, cannot have player defined organisations (you can create corporations only - system is good but it aint completely free to modify) surely there are many more differences - but the spirit of sandbox and player driven stories are the same for both games.

Also if you read through dev blog and developers posts you will see that free pvp has been decided long before this topic was started, what they are accualy discussing  are the Arcified zones - how big, how limited etc.

By the way - EVE's pve or carebears as they are called, are prety well protected. You are nowhere truly safe, but to gank someone in a safe zone is not easy. Its called suiccide ganking - because if you kill someone in High sec ("safe area") you will 100% loose your ship, and so will everyone helping you.

  17. Survival element is not nonsense, where I agree that food and water is overkill (I men who wants to worry about food and water when there is a universe to concuer right?) but elements of extreme temperatures, toxicity etc. are not only more immersive, it also makes sense - no two planets are the same, they are different distances from the sun, have different composition, different atmosphere and so on. So haveing survival element dependant on enviroment is great. Haveing to eat a bowl of cereal before going to work in the mines is not fun at all.
