  1. I agree having VOIP on just means i cant discuss with my team when making a trade which i think is a superior use of my voice. I think text is perfectly fine and actually reduces the chances of me misunderstanding/being scammed

  2. I typically use the mmo character name that I have utilized for years now, "Cerec", when creating a forum username.   However, this particular forum software has a restriction that the username must be at least 6 characters.   Could we get that adjusted?   (Or, at least allow for hyphens to be used in the username?)

I would also like to ensure that you've thought about this in the game as well.    A six-character minimum for player names would be prohibitive for me and quite a few of those who have been in my guild in other mmos.

    Thanks.

This is only for the account name. If you go to your user settings you can change your name once to any length you wish, hence my 5 letter name :)

  3. @Lladz

There's nothing preventing you from constructing an express train on Coruscant if that is your heart's desire. Go-karts, rocket-scooters, segways...that would be quite interesting to see. As for the physics, I'm no expert, but I'm sure someone could figure out an easy rail to car interaction with LUA.

Planet-space was mentioned (somewhere) to be seamless, so space elevators are theoretically possible, but IMO, awfully easy to blow up or crash into, not to mention a bit....aesthetically unappealing?

Oh i'm sure it would be a total eyesore and hard to defend, but maybe on a tiny moon if those ever happen? I would really need to see how the game develops as far as difficulty in transporting from ground to space. If huuuuge freighters that take forever to take off and land are developed it might be advantageous to move large quantities of material to space via some sort of automated elevator instead of many small shuttles. It will really depend on scale.

  4. I will have to think about it pretty hard but i'm already imagining a cool vertical disc shaped ship with two entrances/bays on the opposite side of the coin for people who need to trade and feel insecure about the other person shooting them. Would be awesome to build in a border system between two planets so that people coming from different factions can safely fly into the system/location from their respective origins without being afraid of the other. A marketplace for civilian trade between two warring groups so as to not disrupt the non-military folk.

On second thought i am thinking way too much about it.

  5. Do we know if we will be limited to spaceships specifically or if we can sort of build anything we want a-la garry's mod?

I would love to make some sort of railway transport on my planet, basically anything that can be done with a motor that's fun i will probably attempt. Curious if we will have physics restrictions for making one, could easily be a premade rail to rail-car wheel interaction.

I'm also interested about the seamlessness of atmosphere and space... can i make a space elevator??

  6. I was under the impression that although hacking may not be in Alpha it will be a gameplay element later in the future. As someone who tends to have some pirate-y tendencies the ability to steal or otherwise mess with other people's property is intriguing. I am curious how it will all be handled and or balanced because it would be a shame for hacking to be easy enough that if i go to bed my ship will be stolen by morning. I think some sort of interesting dynamic where hacking is harder when the owner is offline (say 1 hr after last log in to avoid people disconnecting for the bonus) could help allow hacking to be a powerful tool that doesn't destroy gameplay for the more casual user. I think that as a dev i would want to encourage hacking as a gameplay mechanic when both parties have the power to do something about it - like if i break into your base and want deeper access while discouraging people from stealing ships while the owner is offline. Finding the balance might be difficult.

As for multiplayer ships, i am looking forward to the implementation  of my trading space station, I think a properly managed layer of secure bays for each trading mechanism could be a lot of fun to run. I was imagining some sort of trading bay for the "rougher" types where we arrange for trades by providing a secure trading space with enforcement if trade goes wrong. For the eve players - some sort of operation similar to Chribba's brokering, but for people that are actually likely to backstab you.

  7.

    About distance between planets:

Even if the planets will be more spaced than in our current test configuration, you probably won't have to jump to reach a planet located in the same solar system you are in. But go from one system to another, you will probably have to jump (meaning you have also acquired to do it). On the long term, it is planned to enable players to build "Stargates", to be able to jump on very long distances with minimum of travel time. But building a Stargate will require advanced technology level, huge amounts of resources and probably significant coordinated teamplay! ;)

    Best regards,

    Nyzaltar.

Im really happy with these plans. I think player made stargates add a lot of fun complexity. Also adds an interesting dynamic where some regions might not want stargates and will actively fight to destroy any attempts at established routes

  8. Hey everyone, Lladz here. Just heard of this game today and am unsurprisingly very interested in seeing how it develops. Veteran of a bunch of space games like pretty much everyone else. Hoping to help provide some feedback and make this game as awesome as we can.

As far as in game i will probably become your friendly neighborhood space trucker as i like to drink beer and fly through space with expensive cargo B) . Looking forward to seeing what kind of organizations develop before launch, joining a friendly group of people with similar interests in in-game manufacturing, trading, & logistics with a small side of piracy would be awesome. Market combat is fun.

  9. 1. Single shard is awesome, it's worked amazingly well for EvE online.

    2. I don't know how I feel about Kickstarter campaigns anymore, especially if they offer early access to the game.  I feel this lets too much information about the game come out as it's being developed, especially if the pre-alpha/alpha don't have NDA agreements.  Being able to see everything little piece of information about the game before it is released seems like it burns people out before they get to play it, it doesn't leave any mystery to the game.  This could be a terrible mindset but it's just my opinion.

    3.  Again I'm all for having as many testers as possible but refer to number to 2 about NDA's.

New here, but i cannot stress enough how much i agree with Number 2. I think it is important to keep an air of mystery about the game as its developed in order for any significant interest to build. I have been a part of multiple early access games where the core interested population gets burned out from seeing everything in the alpha/beta. Even worse, i think that sometimes the buy-in for alpha reduces the quality of the testers and brings in people that are expecting a more polished game and maybe aren't quite as ready to spend time in the grind finding bugs and providing constructive criticism.

Alpha should be for testing and i think a kickstarter is a good idea, but i think the early access needs to be done on a more private scope where the emphasis is on improving the game and not publicizing it.
