260k tiles. 65k man hours for a complete scan. 1/3 scan pattern because hotspots and not random. 22,000 manhours.

1000 players. Means 22 hours per player.

not sure what point you were trying to make. Certainly within the realms of possibility.

“less than 6% claimed.” What does this have to do with T2 or T3? If anything it’s already higher than the 0.3~0.5% ratio of T2 ores we’re hearing about.

Optimistic! It might be right if all players share what they scanned so far each with other. otherwise it always 260K tiles for each of us less already taken tiles included Aphelia tiles.

  3. "When we released schematics in 0.23, it was to address a problem that had the potential to adversely affect Dual Universe as an MMO. Players were able to be fully self-sufficient with ‘build-it-all’ factories, reducing interaction between players in the game’s economy."

I agree 100% with this statement, at the same time I feel I have to suggest that to solve that problem it was enough to modify a few elements: cost and time and the number of sub-components necessary for the assembly of the final product. It was simply enough to be inspired by the industrial model of EvE online, perhaps only partially since in DU it does not exist as a final product from the industry and therefore from the schematic complete and finished spaceships. However I like this change .... now more important is making a change to the mineral resource system, even just making them make their spawn randomly would have a very positive impact on the game's long-sightedness. No less important could be the inclusion of pve missions, just to encourage the fighting aspect in the game.

After a full wipe any org who still can be bothered to remain active is going to be scanning and mining key planets and dominating asteroids in a couple of days, control alien cores after a week and claim key territories faster then you can say "quanta cash flow funnel".

So ANY perceived fairness or level playground gained from a full wipe is nothing but an illusion, since all it does it make the game harder (and boring) to start for newbs with no existing player infrastructure to discovery and lean on, and easier for large orgs to correct past mistakes and use their experience and numbers to gain dominance.

And all this just so that a few dedicated players get to feel special for a short while (at the expense of people who has been supporting the game for years) until it is back to normal, and new players will be in the exact same position as they are today when joining the game.

Your point of view might be right ,but first of all i'm not so confident in the altruistic nature of perfect strangers: if you do something you do it for your own gain not for the desire to be the good Samaritan. and above all what you suggest is to leave everything as it is so there is no solution whatsoever in the short or long term. At this point I ask you what need is there to formalize the release of the game? And why start this title that has now reached such a level where many have already developed everything, you can already find everything you need around, and why should I sponsor this title in my community of players? moving in here en masse when that minimum of competition you can draw from this game  it's over? Honestly, as a new player who wants to play a similar game, I am not interested in what others have done and in finding the food ready, I am interested in what I can do with my friends. After all, the game is all here, if you remove this aspect too, there is really nothing left.

Given that in this game early landgrabs can remain permanent, it's relative, as relative as being able to train a skillcategorie to lvl2-3 during the time it takes a newcomer to design a functioning ship able to haul 3 territory scanner and move to other planets, meanwhile the big boys are allready scanning... In a new meta where there can be no players with odd reserves of rare and exotic ressources because ownership of these is gatekept by landclaims and people camping undiscovered asteroids on the closest rim, with ready designed ships... yes the ability to compete is very relative to say the least. As relative as NQ's ability to dillute previous excesses with hyperinflation through daily quanta, if everybody has 5 figures more previous fortunes become very relative yes... I thought the inherently unfair thing was whales multi'ing missions, not the people who grinded for their ore,  apparantly that's relative too...

You know what's clear cut and offers no relative attack angles? A total wipe.

All that you wrote is very true. But you missed something: when the game is officially released that day it will not be the starting line for all present and future players that we hope this title will be able to count, some will start immediately others after days others after months, which is why what worries you now will be cause for just complaints in the future. at this precise moment I'm sure there will be players who have the exact coordinates of the lots, in the various planets, more profitable in terms of resources and if you think about it, they won't even need to scan the terrain because the resources are static in the planets and more and more limited the more they go up in tier. if a periodic reshuffling of the same with random spawn does not take place it is evident that whoever arrives first and knows the coordinates takes everything, and you can safely say that it is the end of the game. At the current state of the game, a full or partial wipe solves only 20% of the problem and postpones the remaining 80% to the near future.

  6. There are so many ways to approach this wipe issue. total or partial wipe. And it already looks like a decision has been made. the wipe is partial, as I had imagined and written in other 3Ds they will leave the Core BPs which at this point in my opinion could be extended to all the BPs as it would eliminate the possible controversy of those who have played this title for years and never wanted create nothing of his own, but he always bought ships and buildings from others. After all, the advantage of keeping the BPs is quite relative in a world that starts from 0 before being able to use them again will pass a lot of water under the bridges, without considering that part of them will be useless according to the criteria dictated by the latest changes therefore : Why not extend them to all BPs? (it seems as if the game of those who have spent their time creating and designing things is worth more than those who have dedicated themselves to something else). At this point, since the partial wipe path has been decided, it is possible to extend it to other aspects of the game: such as credits and talents. Let's say that it might be an idea to keep a limit for each of them beyond which it is not possible to receive a release of the game. (Example credits: maximum 10M of quanta, Example talents: maximum 5M.) Personally I am opposed to certain compromises, since the partiality of things does not satisfy anyone. Those who expect to play a new game and those who expect to continue their game started years ago. But of all this personally I am not interested, for me they can choose the way they think is more right, what will influence my decision to play this title or not is the longevity vision of the game itself. in other words, if the system of resources remains static and limited with infinite waste of time in its vain search, for me the game is already over before even starting. In such case i will wait for SH to sell DU's code parts to other SH who will make it a more balanced game (hopefully) or else wait for some other game to come out.

What really surprises me is this silly dispute between wipe yes and wipe no of some players (I will only play if I can continue to have what I have accumulated so far, I do not play if they do not reset everything) as if all this had a real value apart from the time spent. A mmorpg that has no users that is not attractive but is not played for any reason whatsoever and that has a limited vision of its future projected by the cyclical nature of its users will never take off. And it will be of little use to have kept your assets in the game if you are the only few to play it. Think about it a bit.

Except historically a game wipe has never brought in any substantial amount of players. You're saying that they'll see a 2000% increase in player base when they add the "1.0" and "Release" moniker to the game and do a wipe?

New World, for example- lost 80% of it's player base when going from Beta(and wiping) to release. It has since lost a further 80%.... and that is without a monthly subscription. https://steamdb.info/app/1063730/graphs/ The other difference, is with DU the player base largely makes the "game content"... paired with it being subscription based. it's a unique balance no other game has, and there is nothing to say wiping that content in the game would bring in more players.

If you have any data to back up your claims, I'd love to see it! Math is nice, big numbers are big, but numbers mean nothing without data to give them meaning.

80% of players who left New World it's just because New World it's not either a game, just nothing as Atlas, same for Lost Ark who is just boring and this last every day lose players, ppl who keep playing such games just because there is anything else around. Coz covid and many other reasons lot of games have been postponed. After 5 years of beta, DU need to make new marketing plans, and they cannot announce a release of a new game where players shall build everything a new society etc. if inside there are already players who did everything got everything took everything. This is already a good reason for them for a full wipe. As long as this game will keep be a Beta no one talk about DU, no magazine, no internet press etc. they did long time ago.

  8. I wouldn't even express myself on the question wipe yes, wipe no and its possible modalities since when you switch from a trial version, even if for a fee (where surely in some paragraph on the conditions of use, EULA etc. it will be written that the producers reserve the right to proceed with the partial or total cancellation, as well as the interruption of the service in without notice or something similar) to a definitive version of the game the wipe is a must. who does not know these things or pretends not to know them, I wonder if all this time he has ever played an MMO in his life or has been a monk in some remote convent in the mountains. Having said that, there remains the problem of the dislocation of resources as a primary factor in the future development of the game, in the sense that if everything is simply reset, but the game does not make any changes, whoever owns the fruitful locations will rush back to take them, with or without the aid of territoty scanners. and therefore the current situation of poor playability for future new players will be repeated again and in the very first months of the game. Even changing the locations of the resources and then leaving them static in the modalities seen up to now, not changing much, will perhaps generate different masters of the game economy. a periodic dynamic spawn would solve the question, there are several applicable methods. Or, what by the way is not new, at least for me, this current version of the beta is just an old version of the game that will be in release, updated with the minimum necessary since there are paying players to whom, however, we must also give something. from time to time, but the official version could reserve major structural changes. We will see. But both in one case and in another the wipe is and remains a must. Every time it is always the same story, whoever has to lose threatens the abandonment of him, his relatives up to the fifth degree of friends, and of friends of friends, only to see them again and again playing in any condition SH will offer them .. ..because a game is chosen and you continue to play it not because there will be a wipe or not, but because you like and interest everything else is chatter. My preference Full wipe with maximum BPs saved.

And for some reason RMT is 'fixed' with a wipe? The only thing that will do is make quanta MORE valuable... And that operation will be back in operation in weeks/months, you want to wipe again at that time? IF that is an actual RMT (and not a scam), then NQ should do something about it (as in permanently banning all related accounts, both buyers/sellers/farmers). Wipe-wipe won't fix this issue, especially not long term!

I was also thinking: "That's a lot of money ($60) for 500M quanta!"...

But you might also want to look at ALL the other games that are available on that forum for RMT, do those also need to be wiped on a regular basis?

RMT is a whole seperate issue.

Maybe i wasn't able to explain my thought. Wipe will not fix any problem of those i listed noe either other problems i did not listed... so for such reason if nothing change i agree with you, it might be just a useless action. Wipe it's just a temporary patch as the new moon with a view to attracting and making as many new players as possible to play for as long as possible. Change what i listed and then wipe sounds enough good for a new start, but they also need to do good advertisement and marketing again fix problem of low fps and i don't know now what else.  mmo with no players will not last so long.

There are plenty of tiles with tons of resources on them all over. If I wanted to get more of anything, I'm 99% sure I could find a ton of good/decent tiles for them. Autominers make ore trivial and saying there is some kind of scarcity to any of it is just a lie. That and Asteroids can provide you 100% of anything you might need. Wiping is bad faith on those who stayed and played, those who paid, with no indication on the purchase page there would/could be a wipe, and will likely end up removing more people than they will end up back with. The game doesn't really have any good press to begin with, and as I have said many times, there isnt a huge crowd lined up ready for "release". The game has been out for awhile as soon as they started taking direct subs and not "founders early access".

I'll explain it for the last time. I am in favor of the wipe, not because I think it is a solution to the problems that we all know well (I don't know the problems of pvp, it takes a lot of talents and a lot of time to be able to look at this aspect of the game). I am in favor of the wipe for a simple matter of fair-play: regardless of what some players, even rightly, have gained in all this time of exaggerated extension of the beta version, as the word itself says it is a test version and data collection, implementations, continuous adjustments and so on and so forth. So as SH that launches a product that claims to be in the final version (even if this does not mean that there will be no more changes in the future) you cannot afford to leave unchanged situations matured by players who have been able to exploit unbalanced situations, maybe deliberately proposed, both for evaluation and feasibility tests, and to speed up the achievement of contents that would normally require years of play. I'll give a small example (the ships built that travel at least in pve areas are industructible, you repair them as many times as you want ... will it be like this even in release?) Before the underground mining system that they moved with the advent of asteroids you had under the house. Do you understand that this was a huge advantage as long as it lasted between the asteroids have a static respawn, will it be so even in release?) For so many reasons that have nothing to do directly with the criticisms of this game as a software house you can't afford to leave things unchanged. And these are for me the type of reasons that push me to be in favor of wipe. For the rest I could agree with you (wipe is useless because it does not bring any definitive solution and it is unthinkable to continue wipe after the official release of the game). here are what I think are the criticisms of the game, absolute consideration from the market forecasts on the expectations of how many players in release will subscribe to this game but being a mmorpg the architecture should be designed in such a way as to accommodate a massive amount of players who they share the same game online. otherwise we are talking about a single player game with cooperative mode (maybe):

    1) Economic system not compatible with a possible growing number of players who start this game, first come, best stay concept only works for veteran players. By deduction it is not a game that aims at large numbers and at a community that is constantly renewed. The same concept of exclusive ownership of limited territories can only work in case of marginal influence in the dynamics of the game which could be a system of housing but, it does not work when the bases of the whole economy of an mmo game depend on it.

    2) Quite exclusive and questionable game mechanics, such as: The concept of being able to give shape to many things by giving great freedom to the players, however, for those who face these dynamics for the first time inevitably remains displaced, confused and frustrated. To then lead again into the more complex part which is the LUA programming of the elements. All very nice but, only for a few players. Not that there aren't any games with editors out there (the Sims in its various versions is the most simplified system of editor of the environment, with this I don't say that DU should be trivial like The Sims, but not that complex either. , if they point to the numbers of players).
all this then inevitably clashes with the concept of balance in pvp, or with the concept of uselessness applied to the dynamics of the game. Example (how much does the use of Honeycomb count and how does it count? There are many stats related to materials but currently in the game dynamics only the mass of a material counts. So what is the use of all this? Only for hedonism? And if tomorrow became functional as you would expect, how do you balance a pvp with the current resource system?

    3) Blueprint functionality and copyright concept. It's not a major problem, but it creates confusing interpretations. The current game dynamics allow the deployment of a construct only if a Blueprint exists behind it, with the option of confidentiality of the creator's copyright. To date I wonder why to buy a building I must also pay for the blueprint that allows me only one use? And if for any reason I want or have to buy the same construct several times, paying the same BP 2 times or more times seems like a scam. Without considering that the current system greatly favors the scam. Until I deploy a construction I don't know what will come out, I only have a list of elements and materials used, but it could easily come out a column of elements and a stack of honeycombs and maybe a monitor that says "and now have fun" I'm not asking much but at least a preview of what I'm buying.

    4) improper use of LUA scripts, I recently discovered that the drastic drop in FPS often finds its origin in the dearth of mine, but above all in the massive use of scripts that are around. It might not be the only reason, but it certainly is a major cause.
    5) lack of content and those few that exist are often deadly boring such as: Missions, scanning of the resources present in the territories, gathering surface resources.

May be, but i'm playing MMOs for over 20 years now and i don't remember a single one, where players payed a subscription fee during a beta. Most other games have beta testing phases for some weeks to fix bugs, the servers are on and off, not running constantly.

That's the one big difference. If there has'nt been the message "we don't want to do a wipe, except there is no other way to solve massive technical issues" i never would have startet this game or invested so much time and effort.

You might be right there. But increasingly SHs make people pay for incomplete, seriously bugged games, projects that will never come to light as final versions. See Atlas (for example or DAOC unchained and again Scam citizen, where they recently came out with the sale of the spaceship set for the modest sum of 40,000 dollars. So i'm not that surprised to see a paid beta version.

  13. 22 hours ago, Leppard said:

And after a year has passed another wipe? I don't get it - players which enter a game at a random point in time allways will be behind those who have been playing it before them. This game is meant to be a persistent and evolving sandbox. When you subscribe to EVE today you are behind people playing it for 19+ years.

No. I'm still very interested in playing this game, Only the uncertainty regarding a possible wipe is currently keeping me from pursuing several of my open projects further.
If they gonna wipe i'm done with this game, allready canceled the automatic subscription prolonging.

If you go back to 2nd page i wrote why wipe is not a solution but anyway it's a must. First of all this is a beta, so before an official release a wipe is necessary, for all those new players and also those players who subscribed the game then quit only because as beta version they were expecting a final reset, as it has always happened for every game. Meanwhile if developer's team will recognize there is a big gap in design of game and they will start to work to change it before game will be released, we might find a solution to present and  future issues. Now they applied another temporary solution: a new moon but, but more than a solution it's just a patch. The real problem are resources system who is the main core of economy and industry of this game. As long resources are limited to few and specific tiles who first arrive will take everything and even if a day such players will quit they will pass such tiles to their friends or members of their organization. So they must change this system as priority for a longevity of the game. I played EvE as well for long time, it currently just a game for pro players who lives in real by the real money they do by isk, SP and much more selling....So really it's not the best game you should compare with. If you want to talk about best business mmo you should talk about WoW, personally i never liked it, but anyway it's easy, and allow new players to join with no many restrictions.  Anyway you can talk with me about all big games you want as i most probably played each of them.... i started to play mmo since Daoc... so really long experience.

  14. 21 hours ago, CptLoRes said:

The whole concept of DU + subscriptions makes it so that a wipe must be avoided at all cost, and only used as a last resort when everything else has failed. It is that simple, really it is.

I.e. The only real asset in this game that keeps players logging in, is the constructs. Be it PvP ships or large base constructs, those constructs are the only thing that truly represent value to the players.

And I have yet to hear a single reasonable argument for a wipe, that would not be better addressed by a more gentle "soft wipe" intervention from NQ. Like they already did with the landscape reset needed to change the voxel planet coordinate system.

And why did they spend all that time and effort trying to minimize player impact including using NQ resources to help dig out constructs, if there is a full wipe planned for the near future?

As i told you before when the game will be released SH should follow what they advertise of the game, as new player who start from the first day i would be really disappointed seeing there are already lot of players who got everything, in such case i would subscribe 1 month then bye bye. But what we all are missing is the fact for us it should be just a game for SH is a business and mmo business should make focus on constant turnover of players giving them same chances that veteran players got, always remembering that veteran players will inevitably sooner or later leave due to exhaustion of interest in the game. and I believe that after 5 more years of beta many have already reached that level anyway, so who likes to play this game will not care to start everything from the beginning again, who instead lost most of his interest in the game wipe means start something boring from the beginning. This is the only real true thing.

Reseeding tiles every two weeks, what kinda crazy amount of scanning and setup do you want to do? Not to mention the amount of tear down and setup on a static core, and the nerfs to calibration ramp up... Heck no, that is just too much work.

    Something most similar to this:

    1) no static spawn of resources so no matter if you take the best spot as it would change after 1 or 2 weeks

    2) a new player who decide to subscribe the game after 5 years from game release got same chances of veteran players to find and gather resources he wants he needs.

    3) the possibility of seeing entire moons occupied by individual organizations will disappear (your private area will be delimited from editing contruct area) so everyone can find is own space everywhere and change it again and again.

    4) improves population distribution among planets preventing single overcrowded areas and many desert areas. Less chances to see a single market working as District 6 on Alioth or Jita in EVE online.

personally of the extractors I would change the concept of calibration, instead of the appearance of stones with a greater amount of resources to be collected, I would replace it with a bonus of the extractors in the extraction phase and obviously I would also review the manual collection of surface resources; the sight of planets completely filled with colored stones is a graphic obscenity as well as being a soporific activity that I really believe very few have carried out seriously on their territories. Arrange talents associated with surface resource gathering.

  16. For me this system cannot work in the long term. The whole economy of the game starts and revolves around mineral resources everything else is a derivative, although there is also a mission system, very underdeveloped at the moment. Personally I would have renounced the concept of land ownership and would have shifted its implications on the buildings by leaving the latter as it is, that is with the core system and apart from the purple marked areas that belong to the system, I would have left the lands completely free. to be occupied by extracting buildings etc. following this simple scheme: Each core placed on land according to its size has a cost in terms of taxes as long as the taxes are paid what the core contains and the core itself is 100% functional when the taxes they are not paid for any reason, the structure in principle becomes inactive at a later time it is forcibly removed from the system, with everything in it. During the period of suspension from the payment of taxes they continue to accumulate so that a player who wants to redeem his property will have to pay the entire sum accumulated up to then. After the limit period the construction is lost. The resource allocation system obtainable from the extractors must be random on all planets and change cyclically every week or 2 in such a way that no monopolies of resources are created, their location must from time to time be localized through scans and the their variable extractable amount. I believe that such a system would solve a number of present and future problems.

Your missing the entire point. There is no content in this game without the players. Literally. Nothing. PvP? Nope, good luck starting that any time soon. All you can do is sit around MMB'ing skittles till you can afford a mining unit. Industry will take large orgs days to get back up and running with the free quanta + bot orders + missions (people will be on these before even the first warp drives are up), but the average new person post wipe? Good luck. Right now we have the backbone to help support new people to come into the game, there are free ships everywhere to get people started, some people give out t1/t2 MUs even.

Everyone also keeps mentioning all these new players that would come in. Where are they coming from? There isn't a stash of new players somewhere waiting. The people who wanted to try/play the game have already. Calling something a launch might bring in a few new faces, but we are not going to see the normal MMO rush. With everything that is already out there about DU, most people will make the connection that the game has already launched in a since and really isn't new.

This isn't a matter of people coming in and being behind. There is a upper limit a decent chunk of people have reached. With the current state of the game if a few groups of new players come in, it would take them a few weeks to reach that if they are playing decently.

I really don't understand why a wipe is even on the table. Its not the 99.9%s fault that NQ didn't take a firmer stance on the 0.1% exploiting the game with duplications and "cheap" Schems among other things. Had they actually had enough backbone to actually AT THE VERY LEAST remove the items and refund the schematics there wouldn't even be this conversation. Its already been mentioned that a decent chunk of the people who currently make the content in the game wont be coming back if there is a wipe, and the small trickle of people they will see for the "release" who probably wont stay will not make up for that.

the point instead is just that. It is presented as a sandbox where players will shape new civilizations on exoplanets, except for what is strictly necessary to allow for, albeit slow, progress there will be nothing. the game is launched with this perspective, then you introduce yourself and discover that everything already exists, and everything has already been taken and occupied .... what interests could a new player have? in a system, which we all agree, designed for linear rather than cyclical growth. On which, I believe they will have to make serious changes. Given this, I believe that we also agree that a game is played because it is liked and not for imaginative reasons, specifically in the current game it does not offer much, each of us must find a space and his own idea of how to play it, the real innovative features are LUA and Voxel that other games do not have, the rest is highly questionable ... in any case if players with years of gaming behind them leave only because, as has always been the rule, there will be a wipe or not, perhaps the reason lies in the fact that for them the time of this game is exhausted and they are looking for yet another reason to abandon it as now what they could do they did the rest is routine. For the same reasons listed above, whoever tells you that new players then want to be helped in the ways so far explained by the quual veterans: give ships, objects, money etc. in this way I believe that more than helping, at least 70% of interest in the game itself is taken away. I'm a new player, the ships, blueprints, and much more do they give me what remains to do? PvP? But on one thing I fully agree it is necessary that they give an answer as soon as possible to the community on the subject.

  18. I have no idea how many MMOs you have played so far and how many betas you have participated in, personally I have been active in MMORPGs since DAOC, and participated in a large multitude of beta versions of games and it has never happened before that the servers did not come reset before the release of the official version and the real and only reason lies not in the predictions or fantasies of what the game will be in the future but in the fact that a beta version cannot be considered an honest and clean start to the game , as versions of the game and radical changes have been made throughout this long period, and among many veterans there have been those who through previous non-perfected versions have made trillions of quanta and exploited the game or even created resource and mission farming through free beta keys. So if we want to keep talking about bullshit, we can go on indefinitely on wipe yes, wipe no. We all know in our hearts that none of us would ever participate as a new player in the launch of a game knowing that there is already a community of players who have gained experience, objects, how much and much more during 5/6 years of beta. where as soon as you enter you cannot find a hole if no planet to claim a territory and where organizations have had 5 years to find all the resources they wanted. Someone will say "oh yes but even with the wipe in 2/3 years it will be the same for the players who will come" yes it will certainly be so if in the meantime some game dynamics do not change in my opinion of a few broad views.

the following needs to happen for missions as its BS that people can make enough money for 1 warp beacon schematic in one 5 hour run of missions with an ubsurd amount of alts.

here's how this should be done:

-LIMIT APHIELIA PACKAGES PER SHIP FLAT OUT.

-REDUCE ALL MISSION REWARDS BY 20-30%.

-SET A WEEKLY LIMIT PER CHARACTER FOR HOW MANY MISSIONS THEY CAN DO THAT EQUATE TO OVER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF QUANTA.

100m+ an hour in this games economy is absurd, please NQ, do us all a favor and fix this.

Why don't delete free beta accounts instead, there are people who got 20 free beta accounts who means 20 free territories + huge amount of resources, missions and much more. Once they will have to pay for each account they own the sound will change, if not it means for Sh cash, from those players who will decide to pay for multiple accounts.

Am debating not playing till this is answered fully. Even a partial wipe will be problematic and won't really solve any real issues... The community/game hasn't even fully settled from the construct slot changes yet.

This last post from NQ was poorly communicated: "This includes long time topics such as will there be a wipe at launch, Avatar vs. Avatar and DAC implementation. We appreciate your patience and we will have the answers for you as soon as we can."

Pretty boldly implies they don't have the answers to those questions, which are things they should know if they're planning to release after their next major update.... Which is worrying, and I hope is addressed ASAP.

This smells of the board of directors at NQ forcing release to happen, this year. They hired
Nouredine Abboud to push this game to release in 2022, and by doing it mid year (6 or so months after they brought him on as CEO) they can watch the release numbers and decide how to proceed by the end of Q4 2022. From a investor stand point it makes complete sense, and either way will produce a result finally.

The issue is now this places the pressure on the development team to tie up the loose ends started years ago. I feel for the devs right now... they're stuck between a rock(investors), a hard place(development hell) on top of their customers with pitch-forks at the ready. Now is the time to be brutally honest, upfront- and fully transparent... not just about a wipe, but the state of the game and the plans going forward into launch and after.

You only get one chance to announce the full launch of your game, a footnote in a PTS update post that raises questions about the sate of the game and creating FUD is not it.

Wipe is not a soluition to game issues or in any design errors in the game architecture. Wipe is just a necessary operation to maintain fair play when passing from a test  to an official version of game. Veteran players from Beta or Alpha can count  on their knowledges of the game, in their comunity/organization (necessary in any mmo) and eventually if SH agree to their BPs and it's already a huge advantage over players who will start the game for the first time. Now let's analyze the criticisms of the game, that need careful attention from the designers.

    1) is this game a sandbox? if yes

what players can do, any plausible decisions they make about how to play their game should be designed in such a way that none of the foreseeable and predictable aspects as well as possible scenarios are mortified by other styles of play. what has been said so far must be understood as a general principle that has nothing to do with the level of difficulty that each player with his own style of play and projects to be implemented will have to face in order for the latter to materialize.

    2) Does the architecture of this game allow for easy insertion of new players, at any time they decide to start? if this is the case there are no problems if this is not the case ... it will be a game that in the long run will be only for a few and in particular for veteran players. which translated in layman's terms means short-lived game. since every mmo must promote and interest new players rather than favor veteran players as the latter will sooner or later stop playing when their interest curve is exhausted.

in this regard, for what I have been able to observe so far, there are obvious impediments, first of all the claim system and distribution of mineral resources, obviously as it is conceived it will always give birth to players who will have everything and players who they will have little nothing from their territories. thus generating a sort of monopoly of the total market by a few. Solution: Remove the ability to claim territory tiles and let players build where they want. Taxes will be applied to construction and not land. the resources will be extractable through the MUs as now the tier of resources will be determined by the difficulty of the areas of space in which the planets are located closer to the pvp the easier it will be to find high tier resources. the resources in order to be extracted will have to be scanned first and the results will determine their type and amount. at the same time these resources will be available for a week then it will be necessary to provide further research on the various planets ... this system will guarantee a balance for those who want to dedicate themselves to mining without creating lords of the resource market and at the same time giving greater depth to the career of miner.
    3) Another aspect to consider in relation to the market is the consumption of manufactured goods. therefore destruction consumption due to wear, breakage and repairs will have to cyclically force the players to buy back the marketable goods.

    4) as far as pvp is concerned I do not say a word as I have not had any experience yet and I let those who live off pvp speak.

    5) Last but not least, the game must be seriously optimized because apart from the space, the FPS are dramatic, the incidents due to out-of-sync between client and server border on the ridiculous. The choice of an all-3d game is an ambitious project that other SH such as EA in the past have failed miserably now it needs to be made to work properly for at least medium and high-end PCs.
having said that we agree that a wipe will not solve all these problems but, not doing it in addition to not solving the same problems creates others.

Economy is far from dead. Does stuff insta sell on the market? no, It can be weeks for an item to sell, but then the next week you can hardly keep the stuff stocked.

You will always sell ore. Its a great way to make money. Even those people with multiple accounts and years of gameplay still sell ore. There are other ways to make money besides selling ore and factory work. (selling ship/ship designs, Selling station/station designs, Selling ore locations, Transporting goods for players, Running aphilia missions, skilling up in Handling skills and buffing other peoples things, Selling things you pirate, And soon what ever these alien things bring us, might even find a situation of guns for hire being a thing.

A new player can compete with players with multiple accounts/years of gameplay in industry. You can hire people to touch your machines so they are running at max efficiency.

If you dont like territory scanning you dont have to. Other people like to scan and you can buy scans off of them. You want random new resources? we already got those they are called asteroids, you want more? Well the new alien mechanic coming in is going to be just that.

This infatuation that a wipe is going to make everything great is just laughable. You say your tired of mining ore just to sell because industry is not worth it for new players. Well with a wipe, industry is not going to be worth it for new players. Atleast not solo players. Its going to be the group of 20 or 50 people that work industry togeather.  And they are not going to sell those first things cheap. So while you say your tired of selling ore, with a wipe your going to mine allot more and sell allot more to be able to buy the things your buying now.

Basically your way better off now as a new player then you would be after a wipe.

I can understand the feelings of pro players who made all that i can see now in the game, somehow i'm very sorry at the thought all such beautifull thigs will disappear but, wipe is necessary, everyone who subscribe a beta game should know, wipe might happen sooner or later, and it's necessary for to give a sense to an official release version of the game,  i'm not considering myself but all those players who will start the game for the first time when official release will be on.

  22. i agree with the wipe 100%, and yes it will happen again in the future if they don't think to a different solution about mining, resources, tiles, organizations and so on. In addiction i would like developer would make focus also on optimization of game, despite i belong a high-end PC, when i play i have serious FPS issues, overload of PC resources such as CPU and GPU and temperature of my CPU goes up to 80C. although i got AIO with 3-fans radiator. Now population who play Beta server is very low compared to many other MMO but what would happen if in release at least 100K players will join this game, will it be minimally playable?
