  1. @Phroshy

For the construction I disagree. All the game system is to work in teams and/or to protect itself: you can land your ship somewhere hidden underground and create a heavy door upon it if you play alone. Other big park structures for orgs would be with shields... All that makes the game. Investigator should be a class too, they would seek who damaged something or killed someone (as cops for example) but with all the factions and territories there won't be just one kind of cop.

  2. I think keeping the server (cluster) all the time online, by changing one server amid the cluster as the others still run (some other buddies said that already here).

The other problem would be to keep changes while the game is still running 24/7, even though you are changing a server: you should do a backup of this server to broadcast the copy to change things on the true one and set it back after keeping the changes the copy underwent by fusing both server. Mind blow, not to mention how those two changes fused could actually do that without concordance issues.

Server technology is a real matter, we will hear about it more I hope.

  3. Yes @DaphneJones I thought the same way. If you have time to play you make money, it has to be balanced so that real players really are rewarded. If you can sell your stuff you earned to pay your subscription, or be into an army or another service, it's worth it. (edit: you could actually steal some of the people's stuff, wether or not it had been bought with real money).

  4. Okay so you want a game in witch you can't pay other things than your month fee? The thing is you can win your fee by playing the game but also use this money to trade within it. An organisation of 10,000 people not buying stuff with money will still be more powerful than another with even 2,000 with members spending 100k per month even by creating robots. Humans can do more than money I believe. Big organizations will be OP.

  5. Lol you want to reward killers and punish victims? Good thing you have no say over real life systems!

There should be a possibility of reward, but also risk. Like if you kill someone and it's not exactly secret, you'll get flagged as someone who has committed a murder, and get tracked down. There are similar systems in most MMOs that track player killing players with skulls on the map.

There will be a bounty system. You know most of the time who kills you and report it and see who are the real serial killers (edit: this is an idea of mine). You could also make cops into your society, or intergalactic cops (edit: this was put forth by the team).

  6. It's a single shard, not a single server. They can do rolling maintenance a few servers at a time.

Will they run their own server farms or use a cloud server service?

I heard the word 'cloud' as questions about servers were asked. I don't know much though, so there will be cloud normally but maybe also owned servers idk. Maybe a Q&A thread mentions that.

  7. I was asking meself the very same question as yours. Groups of organisation it's already done and they are public (https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/csyn-cinderfall-syndicate). But to infiltrate another... well I mean I wouldn't like a DUA git with me in The Empire. Though, organisations are organised and with a hierarchy. Some buddy infiltrating might do it but will be a pure rookie (simple soldier), he will not know about secret operations and will probably be spotted before getting too close to the desirable infos. Also a spy rises suspicions as he leaves, all organisations needs an anti-spying unit.

  8. *heavy breathing* oh man, I'm don gun' stuck in the US of A, wish I could have been there!

So did anybody steal some DAC's during the test

How did the building process feel, did everything seem to work the way you expected it to? Did you see people slap comical numbers of engines or other essential parts onto ships to see how they reacted?

It felt rather unusual (I mean it's a never before sensation with the voxel tech), but it was easy and natural (easier than z-brush or any autodesk 3D engine).

I've made a rather small ship (15 or 20 meters by 5) but I put 3 big motors at the rear. I've (I think others have come up with some sort of things like this) debugged already (I mean I've seen something unusual that shouldn't have happened): these motors are supposed to be fixes besides a plane (not sticking out of the mere plane rear), but I've actually managed to do so without purpose, one of the three was in the middle of the rear, though it looked good. I have just put one gyro with the right angle, so I couldn't say for other parts, also I haven't used the hover reactors.

  9. Awesome stuff! Glad you guys got that experience.

Did they mention anything about the maximum users they've tested on that server you were mentioning? 5 people is fine, but have they tried connecting 50 or so yet? What was their max or did they not reveal any of that? I want to know if they've tried stressing the server even slightly yet.

Oh I see this topic is interesting too so here I go to try and give my answers I gleaned.

The servers (connected to merge into one big single shard) were not used I supposed. We were basically on a small server, that is, still not the final cluster. So we haven't seen how these fabulous servers are or will be. They didn't reveal the max capacity but as long as there are more server they will acquire to merge with the cluster, there will be more connections possible. I haven't asked about server testing sorry.

  10. Awesome. You keep it up to date. This is gonna be a must-be-seen topic.

By the way, I don't see up there the organisations that are together (I mean allies) such as Empire and The Solar Empire.

Something else: Cynderfall is a syndicate that "organizations" join as "member(s)". So all these are in Cynderfall:

    Aether

    Diverse Unified Alliance (DUA)

    Galactic Republic of Planets

    Terran Union (TU)

    SilverLight Industries (SLI)

    Chromion Industrial

    Walküren-Lün (WL)

    Objective Driveyards (ODY)

    Lonestar Empire

    Chuckling Casket (CC)

The Aether, DUA, TU, SLI in the top 10 are all with Cynderfall.
