Catalysts are required to produce some products. The catalyst is then returned as a byproduct. With no talents, 1 L of catalyst input yields 1 L of catalyst output as expected.

 

With talents, however, you can reduce the input catalyst requirements and increase the catalyst byproduct output, thereby magically creating more catalyst. See, for example, the attached image.

 

Talents should neither change the required catalyst input nor change the byproduct catalyst output.
