i could i just really want to see if youc an make along enough shaft and touch ground from space with it to see if it possible to jurry rig a space elevator some how if we wanted too.

 

the test is going to as small as i can make it just really long. have to make it all in space then fly it straight into the ground

That's a lot of digging... where are we going to put all the resulting resources... or since pre-alpha is basically creative mode... no resources are going to drop?

It was said that we'll have everything to build, so our inventories will probably just show an infinite amount of resources. I'm guessing mining won't be important in the initial tests.
