Shopfronts and shopkeepers

So, im kind of fresh to this forum and in my intro I let on that ive played Runescape and Eve.

One thing i really enjoyed in both games was the buying and selling.

RS had the 'Grand Exchange' that sort of worked, but was quite limited to the level of freedom players had to manipulate prices. Scamming was reasonably uncommon, which was good for the age range of RS players. Eve on the other hand was a crooks paradise, scamming, manipulation, price fixing, hell, it was almost as bad as RL.

What I would have liked to have seen was a row of shops, possibly a bit boring as you may have experienced in RL if you ever had to follow yoru wife in and out of every shop looking at identical shoes to the last shop.

Maybe DU could have specialised shops, NPC run or player run where players can deposit goods of a specific type (minerals, tools, weps, ship parts, provisions) and the shopkeeper can adjust prices to sell. The quicker they sell the more % the shopkeeper makes. % drops over time if shopkeeper puts too high a mark up on the items which end up hanging around for weeks.

That system will still be market driven and would require a specific set of skills of the player shopkeeper really wanted to get into the role. If the game had a skill system similar to Eve then maybe the rookie shopkeeper can only have one branch or only sell X number of systems away or Y number of sell slots. As they gained more experience or reputation in trading they could open more branches or sell a greater number of items longer distances.

They would need capital to open their shops and could eventually sell the chain.

For the players not into shooting, mining or exploring this could be a cool little challenge to embark on.

From street corner lemonade stand to galactic wall-mart in one year.

Comments, suggestions welcome............

The idea of players shops is nice. Hiring NPC for ours shops too.

In DU players can built big cities. Some of them may become a trading hubs. Shopping centers on the planet or in planetary system.

It would be nice to see shopping streets full of shops with clothing, weapons, medical supplies, food.

An additional aspect of what I see is....of such shops landowners could charge tax.

Mechanics "policy" will be performed in the game. We can acquire territories on the planets. If you own land why not be able to rent it ? Rent it and collect taxes.

After some time, some cities, planets and space stations may become such ....... "social centers", where players from a given region of the galaxy or planetary system to meet.

This will be a good place for trades.
