And the biggest choice that's made it socially hard (as in "people will ragequit in their droves") is that they started without it.

If they give enough heads up (at least a quarter in advance) with in game tools to prepare ahead of it, it could actually drive growth and bring back older players. I still maintain that had we been given all the info the community majority would have elected to make the same changes since launch and probably sooner.

Unless its from a cash shop that pays for an extra dev or two and that is how dancing avatars might actually save DU.

The wipe was a much needed levelling pass because:

- some players had used large numbers of beta accounts to make billions from mission running, preventing the game from having a sensible economy

- players who left felt like they wouldn't be able to catch up and wanted a wipe to catch up again

but:

- players are once again making billions per day from mission running.  The economy is going to be just as broken again

- the wipe worked when it comes to getting players back.  But there was a reason most of them left and the game is arguably less of a game now than it was then.  Online player counts are crashing hard now (game peaks at a little over 200 now in steam vs 800 at launch)

So the wipe was a total fail and, as many have predicted, we will shortly be back where the game was before the wipe happened due to the apparent total ineptitude of the people managing the game.

A cash shop is just putting lipstick on the pig at this stage, frankly, and will not work.  In order for a cash shop to work there has to be a sensible number of players who actually play enough to want the in-game items.  In any case, when you have a game where everyone is mission running and the number of characters you have determines how much money you make, most people will find it hard to justify paying for that silly dance move (or whatever) when they could spend the money on a 1 month sub for another AFK mission character.

The wipe was a second chance.  But the thing about second chances is you have to actually take them instead of repeating past mistakes.

Yes. Wipe was needed.
But the question is not in the wipe as such. The question is that erasing the data did not fix anything.
Therefore, it is quite natural that the same problems appeared after the release of the game. Nothing new has been added.
For two months, the developers have been working not on new content, but on patching up the next holes in the gameplay, which were clearly visible after 0.23.

From a player perspective 1.1 changes hardly anything, since it is mostly cosmetics.

For example the MU change in the previous patch probably has a bigger impact (not in a good way) on the game for players then what then entire v1.1 will.

Simply put what this game needs is MUCH LESS grind and time gating, and something fun and engaging for players to beside being AFK while flying missions.

Deckard: Really?  We're meant to be impressed by the "feature list" in 1.1? This is a fairly stark demonstration of the disconnect between DU's aspirations and those of the player base.

As our pixellated colleague says: the headlined changes are peripheral at best to people's game experience, and amount to no new gameplay worth mentioning.

Funny, quoting someone but changing the comma to a period to make it look different than the person being quoted intended doesn't flow well with the conversation.

Oh, and to return to the OP's point:

There's nothing inherently good about change. Change can be either good or bad. Change for the sake of change* is almost always neutral or worse. A more generically true statement is "Change is hard". And NQ aren't great at managing change so it's "least hard", as has been proven over and over again. Change management requires, at minimum, basic communication, but ideally requires persuasion and buy-in from stakeholders. Not something NQ has a great track record of securing.

* Not that NQ are doing that, in the case of the MU and market bot changes, but it remains to be seen whether they are suffering from the delusion that any change that shakes things up is necessarily good; I'm looking, with trepidation, at the Schematic Talent introduction with 1.1.

Actually, even this patch (with the exception of skins for characters and other cosmetic improvements) is also a "patching holes".
I'm not saying that many girls and guys are hard at work on the game. For which special thanks to them. The heated discussions on the forum are not about whether the work is going on or not.
We discuss, argue about what exactly is being worked on. ))
Skills for schematics should have been introduced along with the revision of the schematics (it would be right) and not after 2 months.
The disassembly of the elements has also been requested for a year now.
Another announced change in the asteroid tracker and the asteroids themselves. Finally (but we'll see what happens there).

Everything else is cosmetic. Yes, she needs it. And many players, like myself, believe that this could attract additional funding for development.

But most of all, we (the players) are worried about the lack of information about the future. Or at least a clear understanding of what to expect in the next 2-3 months.

P.S. Yesterday I looked at the market and saw T1 ore there (excluding coal) at 6-8 quants per liter. Who said 2 weeks ago that the price of T1 found its balance?

Ore prices will drop even further especially when you think about the number of actual players.

With this expectancy in no time schematics will become the main bulk of product costs and the main reason holding people back.

I would think they already largely were. Ore, you can get by dint of effort. Schematics, you have to make effort to get Quanta or you're limited to your daily dole.
